Probably not that big of news...I mean it is 'only' a debit card to your USD on a Coinbase account...likely PayPal will have more utility than

this with their BTC/Crypto launch..but inceimnental progress is still progress...drip..drip..bit by bit...

Litecoin has done the same...and I expect many, many more to do this kinda thing....in that it is really not all that tough to pull off, IMHO

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)
Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

It's not much of a good news for majority of the crypto community but should be a good one for the vast majority of coinbase users. There are already a couple of existing debit card projects in the space already. So coinbase isn't solving a problem. Rather, they are just making it more easy for their users to enjoy. I think crypto.com and swipe offers similar services as well. It's good news per se but mainly for coinbase users.

Based on Coinbase's card page, it seems like you can choose the "crypto" you want to pay with, and it converts that crypto to USD at point of sale. Pretty much like how Xapo did it with their debit cards in the past which is really really convenient.

Pretty much. This is just good in a way that current Coinbase users won't be needing to again submit KYC/AML information on a separate custodial service; and it makes it more convenient for them too.

Looks like a slightly improved version of the one their EU customers have:

I'm not one of their biggest fans [due to their true nature] and this is another step to have more control [even if it doesn't look to be that significant] over their US customers.
