As always, I was right when I said rx 6800 xt would be a little better than the rx 5700 for mining. I hope whoever said 150 mh/s on eth deserves its head decapitated, I do understand hype but beyond the hype itself x reality, it surely deserves a punishment, don't ever trust any chinese forums, trust science and math.
I guess now people are once again happy with their rx 5700 ehhe, I guess many idiots sold their 5700 in order to buy the new amd ones.
I guess amd got it right this time, finally a gaming gpu that miners dont want to mess with eheh, stock will be abundant ehhe, gamers won't complain ehhe, 3080 still the best choice for mining on high density, nothing better, even the 3080ti will not be any better than 3080 aside from the 20gb of gddrx6 but the price tag of $999 will be just too much.
wait for it, after miner devoloper optimization rx6800xt will hit 100-120mhs easy, we still dont know how new cache will effect mining. dont pay attantion that 256bits it says it works like 512bits, so wait and we see. Remember when 1st 5700 came out, they were doing 3mhs. After amd and nvida earns good money then profit will drop then maybe then i can afford buy some cards. ethash will not be able to utilize that 128mb cache. Regarding 3 Mhs on RX 5700 comment it was obvious that rx 5700 could do a lot more theoretically but this one doesn't and won't be 100-120 MHs. It can, but mining software needs to be updated for it. 128mb of the dag can be loaded into the cache, and the rest into GDDR6. ~3% of dag hits will take place on the cache which would translate to about ~10% increase in hashrate. These can also take advantage of the pipeline improvements by generating multiple DAGs (up to 3 with 16GB GDDR6) that was only possible on the Radeon VII before (see how teamredminer does it). Should offer a couple more %. Cache + Multiple DAGs + Timings will get these over 80MH eventually.

Radeon VII still cannot effectively address over 8gb memory with current (and previous) adrenalin (gaming) drivers. Only with some kind of "pro" drivers it can be done (and vega frontier too). But this "pro" drivers suffer from lack of hardware tweaking support that way making them unusable for mining.

I may be wrong, but infinity cache etc works to reduce bandwidth load on memory, therefore "doubling" memory bandwidth by reducing by half the actual demand for it. Yet in uncompressed loads like mining this looks irrelevant and bandwidth stays the same as advertised. They can scale bandwidth load like that vs increasing memory speed like gddr6x 19gbps that nvidia uses. cheaper and more scalable ? I doubt we'll see a public release if we can utilise it properly.

Is there anywhere a proper review of 6800 for mining? Nobody seems to undervolt it /reduce TDP on youtube videos.

If amd would made navi2 2ghz+ gpu with hbm2 4096 bit wide mem like vii has it would never go to gamers. So, they make pro compute card instead and limited mem bandw for gaming card ...

That is why I said amd got it right this time, they found something --> (infinity cache) and it only benefits gamers. So if nvidia follows which I think it will do on their new gpus next generation, then 3080 might be the best card to have for mining in years to come if gpu mining still alive. Those scalpers are buying those gpus because they think is good for mining too.

Ah you're saying next gen nVidia won't have any real compute benefit with it's own InfinityCache version but should see gamer speeds improve? They might put that cache on the supers - I don't know how difficult it would be to integrate that into the design. I imagine they'll want the Super out sooner because AMD cards have the RAM advantage at the time being and I think the Supers were slated to have double the VRAM, so maybe no cache on them. I think an AMD compute card coming out next March would probably blow the 3080 and Radeon VII out of the water if it had HBM and 512 bus. Considering stock is so limited now looks like I'll be forced to go that option. I don't like only having 1 or 2 cards of a certain type - much easier to populate a rig with 6-8 of the same card.

The question is, what is cost benefit here, cache or a better gram? AMD used cache and a common gdddr6, nvidia used the top gddrx6 ram. I wonder what would have happened if amd used cache and a top gddrx6. If amd wanted to create a eth mining gpu they have the means, instead of cache add hbm or both.

I think they are adding HBM to their compute card that is coming out. They know they need to compete with nVidia in the gamer market because it will help sell their CPUs at the same time. nVidia probably has more sway commanding better pricing for GDDR6X than AMD did, but AMD has the history with TSMC and is sitting pretty with that 7nm node. With SAM the 6800 is best performance per $ in gaming at present, but meh for mining. Datacenters already use EPYC for their clusters but with nVidia GPUs. With a good compute card they might be able to take some of that deep learning market share (and make miners happy).

Yeah, nothing can beat that, plus rx 6800 xt 30 watts or so less than rtx 3800 and yet very close in performance, I guess cache really did wonders here. I see 3080 better only in 4k/mining eth and nothing else, if people game on 1440 or lower then the rx 6800 xt is the wise choice here.

Raw game performance wise 6800XT seems to be the card for gamers up to 1440p.

The advantage of the GPU cache is that it can have benefits for compute cards too. Then you put faster memory on these compute cards, and now they have both fast RAM and cache.

nanominer seems to be one of the first miners that supports the 6000 series. I would like to see a hashrate with all 72 / 76 (how much is it? dont know) units used. then next step is to wait for a miner that can take advantage of the cache...but this might take a while I assume.

Do you know the power usage? This might be very promising, might be better then a 3080 watts per hash.

This 80 rate seems largely dependent on smart access memory, which is only possible with the Ryzen 5000 series chips right now. Unsure if that is the case but so far the single source of this evidence seems to make this true.
