Engagement on the Zero/Low-value post.

It seems we are engaging with Zero/Low-value posts lately. From yesterday I have reported 3 Zero/Low-value posts and that have marked good. Even a few good users engaged in the discussions, but no one bothered to report that post. For example this post, (Archived). Although they had engaged with the constructive discussion it would be an opportunity for spammers. It's better if we report to moderators such as Zero/Low-value posts instead of engaging with it to discourage spams from the forum.

My intention isn't to hurt anyone, just want to encourage to use the "report to moderator" button besides constructive discussions. So that we may keep our roles to build a decent forum. At least we can try from our ends.

It is possible other users reported the post as well and all the reports were marked good.
I agree, It is good practice to report low value posts rather than engaging them, but, adding a reply is sometimes necessary, especially when the posts target newbies with a service which could potentially be a scam.
There's usually a gap between when posts are reported and when action is taken by the mods depending on how active the mods are, during this time newbies can come across such posts and PM the user asking for more information, this could be prevented by a reply explaining why the offer is of no value to other members.

Good reminding the forum about it, not that many don't know about ignoring post with no quality, no contribution, spam. But I some of those post like the one highlighted are from Newbies-low rank and at that stage the are low-knowledged, fragile and sensitive to things happening to them on the forum. Many Newbies-low rank would waste no time to create a topic about why there post was deleted. I think the report button is good -especially for trolling, completely outstandingly rubbish- but if there is a chance the post lacks quality but a little points and correction needed for the OP and newbies then report and if there is need for it an advice.

But when comes to engaging on such threads it rarely occurs from my side unless I want to post sarcastic reply there.

We all know that's unlikely to happen. Majority of the users on the forum don't care if the topic they're engaging with adds value or doesn't to the forum. If you're doubting then make out time to visit the alternative board and see for yourself. They use this type of post to boost their activity and boost their weekly qouta for the respective campaign they're enrolled in.

Only very few users are actually reporting low quality posts actively, on the forum. Assuming the numbers were high then a reduction in the numbers of these type of post still active would had reduced. Irrespective of these I appreciate what you're trying to do here and hope this thread of yours would encourage more users to join hands in spam bursting.

You're not alone on this as I have had similar experience. I think (my personal opinions though) the mod don't agree with our reports or probably they can't find the right boards to move the topic to. Some topic can be fit in two different boards maybe B&H is one of them that's why they don't move as reported.

It is perfectly understandable why that thread or post should be reported for removal by a moderator. Several time I have experienced a decrease in the number of my post without deletion notification in message or in email due to posting on such threads despite trying to constructive. Anyone has the right to report zero quality post to moderator for follow up, this is the best way to build forums that are better than low quality post.
So far I have also reported thread or post that are not qualified (spam) to the moderator, some of my report have not been followed up but I am glad that there are many report that are marked as good.

I agree with you, and if we don't report low value posts even moderators can miss a lot of them.
Maybe it is also time we lock some topics with many pages and without any real talking.

Thats right mate. Even high and reputable ranks even sometime were able to do spam too. I always used that button but it seems sometimes marked bad or unhandled.

I remember a case of mine posted on a signature thread and was deleted but even some posted spam post too there are still undeleted even got reported.

Im thinking if there's a way to know why some reports marked as bad or at least shown reason so we can improve reporting, like making an equal standard. To avoid cases such as this:

Dont worry bro. Almost same with me, Im not saying Im a good reporter but many of my reported Im bit sure Im right but still marked as bad. Anyway its fine, its more important is our initiative to hit that button.

Most posts in altcoin discussion seem to fall into the criteria, I don't understand why people keep replying to such posts, and its not about new members either, high ranked members do the same.

I also noticed that Offtopic board gets more and more spammed with zero value posts and topics. Let's see two examples:

What in the world is the connection between transgenders, masturbation and Bitcoin?! Seriously, are such topics representative for BitcoinTalk? And the list is huge in Offtopic, these beings just 2 topics that caught my attention lately.

They use this type of post to boost their activity and boost their weekly qouta for the respective campaign they're enrolled in.

I kept my eyes on this user since December last year. He posts in all possible topics and boards just for having more posts insinde the campaign he's a part of. He posts once then he jumps as a grasshoper to another topic. Rarely he posts twice in the same topic. He just posts once and goes away, happy because he made 1 more post. In this thread he had no intention of engaging in the disvussion with a constructive post, just tried to obtain 1 more post inside the campaign. He asked a dumb question - if the thread is still there - although OP posted the archived example and also a link to the mentioned post. Clicking the link of the post returns an error page, saying the post is deleted.

But this user - UserU - didn't ask the question out of curiosity. He just asked it, although the answer was already in OP, just to earn one more post inside the signature campaign.


I reported about 10.000 posts in the last 6 months. More than 7000 are good. But almost 2000 are unhandled. And this is sort of discouraging. But I am still reporting. I don't do it daily, but when I start a "reportimg spree" I report about 1000 posts in a single day.

I am holding a grudge against all spammers, scammers and shit posters, not against you specifically. It just happened that you are a shit poster, that's all. If you'd be a quality poster we wouldn't have this discussion.

Yes, I'm also inside a campaign. But, unlike you, I'm the member with most earned merits from that campaign. As a consequence, no, I'm not doing the same thing I'm claiming you do. I tried to contribute to the OP, signaling another area full of shit posts. You asked a dumb question for which you already had the answer in the OP, but you asked it to make one more post for the signature campaign you're a part of. I kept watching your post behavior for months now and I always saw that you post once, usually a dumb post then more to another topic. Nobody quotes your posts, nobody answers your questions as everybody can see that your questions / remarks are useless, made just for having more posts inside a campaign.

Furthermore, another reason for which I'm not doing the same thing I'm claiming you do: in the past 120 days I earned 350 merits; you earned 32. In the past 30 days I earned 132 merits; you earned 4. These merits represent the quality of the posts. To be more precise: while I'm posting quality, you are making shit posts. I hope I explained you better now.

Actually, it doesn't matter to whom you were referring. You just post for having more posts inside the campaign. That's why you post once in a topic, bringing no contribution to it, then move to another topic. That's also why most of the members ignore your posts, never quote them and never answer them. Because it's clear for anyone what kind of posts you are making.

Myself rarely visit off topic because where most of the time discussions gets going which is nothing related to bitcoin and cryptos. What will happen when you report such posts in the off-topic section? Mods are actually removing those threads? I feel that few of my reports on that section remains unhandled for long time.

Sometimes the posts get deleted, sometimes they don't... However, the sticky topic of the Offtopic board is named Low quality topics and posts are not allowed. Ironically, right? Inside the topic is quoted even a post of sirius, the previous administrator of the forum and also a warning for pemaban:

Due to an abundance of topics filled with low quality replies, we are banning all topics where the only reasonable reply is insubstantial content. This was already the rule:

1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads.
...
3. No pointless or uninteresting threads.

Off topic is a section for any other topics that do not fit into any other sub, however, it is not a subforum for account farmers to lazily spam their way through the ranks and doing so will no longer be tolerated. If you are caught spamming unsubstantial posts just to farm or rank up your account your account(s) will be immediately permabanned without warning.

According to the sticky topic we should see plenty of bans and locked / deleted topics. But we don't. I think mods should state how to proceed regarding all this tone of shit topics: should we report the topics? The posts? Will them ban the posters, as stated in the sticky topic? Or will them just delete the posts and / or lock the topics? Besides, this section is full of topics having their authors offline for years, while the topics keep generating spam. Should such topics be reported?

Back to where merit system comes from. It plays as ranking restrictions on shit posters. If you don't send merit to shit posters, they will never rank up.

If you see their zero/ low-value posts, report it.
If you see they plagiarisim, report it.
If less shit posters rank up, there will be less drama.

Answer is simple and obvious: to fill up the signature quota. This is the only forum where you have actual incentive to shitpots and answer to shitposts, so of course even high ranking member will do that (and those are usually in the signature campaigns, therefore having even more incentive than a Newbie/Jr Member). It's the same reason why trolls are so successful here, as people have incentive to engage in pointless discussions.

Those two examples sums up Offtopic nicely. It is a cesspool and even if you make an interesting topic (Movie topic for example), it will attract low quality posters who just wants to dump their post to increase activity or eventually those that are in signature campaigns that counts posts written there. I have a feeling that mods simply gave up on that (despite having "No low quality posts and topics" rule, similar to altcoin/bounty section. I was somewhat active there when I joined forum, but I gave up eventually.

People will start changing posting behavior when their posts start disappearing massively as a consequence of deleted topics but for that to happen mods should start deleting all non coherent and non well written topics.

I feel that too. For example, I spoke with the author of "Share good movies please" topic to state a rule for posting. He did that. The rule says a specific format for posting the movies (title - genre - imdb link). The rule was meant to keep spamming newbies away and to offer more clarity for the suggested movies. The topic is still spammed with posts not respecting the rule. Now I have a basis for reporting those posts, as they don't respect OP's rule, but even so, not all my reports are handled. Indeed, it looks like mods gave up and even if you make the reports no good will come out of this...
