Facebook has banned Bitcoin hashtag

As usual, Facebook has again started anti Bitcoin activity at this time of the year once again. I was trying to do some searches on Facebook using the #bitcoin and I was welcomed with this page.



In case if you are running any campaign or planning to run a campaign on the Facebook platform then avoid using this hashtag as your ID or your page might get banned permanently.

Other hashtags like #btc, #crypto, #ethereum are working fine. Only problem is with the Bitcoin hashtag.

Very much disappointed with Facebook once again.  

Edit - This is was happening on the mobile app and on desktop earlier but now both are running fine for me too.

I attempted with #Bitcoin and it turns out to be working fine for me. Possibly it's not an permanent issue as different hashtags like #BTC and #Crypto are working with you.

Facebook is likely out dated stuff with exceptionally less fascinating activities, its better unloading it from your list of online media. They officially don't support any crypto ads.

there are many scammers on facebook that using bitcoin or Bitcoin hashtag they are very aggressive to promote scam website and even fake manager in many groups and pages.

How aggressive they are ? In popular pages they are always reply a message in different post and reply to comment of other followers so they can notice by them.
and I'm sure this is a big syndicate that uses bitcoin to deceive other people in Facebook how come they can send many messages in different pages and group at the same time. I will not be surprised if all ads related to crypto will be banned by Facebook.

After searching through Facebook I have seen that it’s not closed or limited to me. I can see the different posts coming from different crypto related pages and it’s not banned or anything Maybe it’s just your location? Because I tried different ways to search for the hashtag and everything seems fine.

How bizarre, I guess they have seen an uptick in Bitcoin related scams lately and this must be their low effort way at moderating it. It wouldn't be surprising if this was a push from the facebook management team because bitcoin is something they will never be able to control and it is partially competing with their own marketplace in some ways. The easiest way to fix this, is just to stop using facebook at all - it's very bad for your mental health and you should start to feel a lot happier once you free yourself from the addictive behaviors and habits that social media can create.

I think this update of Bitcoin is kinda new. My last post on Facebook with have #bitcoin or #btc was last October 29, 2020, and I don't encounter this kind of warning from Facebook. Or maybe this is based on different countries?
May I know if this warning you encountered is from the Facebook page or Facebook personal account?

Not everyone is facing this issue but they do not encourage you to use bitcoin hashtag. The similar thing was done by YouTube also and they were suspending the channels which were based on crypto currencies trading and signals. All these ban will not limit the use of crypto currencies and people will continue using them.
Also if they think that by such tactics, they can promote libra then they are wrong.

I'm not promoting on Facebook but it will have a small impact on adoption this happen because so many Ponzi scheme are using the bitcoin hashtag and the algorithm has captured the hashtag as associated to scam and Ponzi scheme, it's not really Facebook but scammers and Ponzi operators using this hashtag to scam people.

Everything is fine on my end too. I manage a facebook group for sell/buy crypto in my local so I usually post offers containing btc/bitcoin hashtags and never faced an issue. This is strange why op received such alert. We're all interested to get further explanation from op if this is only limited to certain zones or users .

am not defending fb here but don't think this is an attack against bitcoin as they do this all the time to different hashtags.
Probably there were a lot of reports against posts containing #bitcoin for breaking fb's ToS or for being a scam attempts.
It would be hypocritical to ban bitcoin and promote their own coin at the same time.

This is also fine on my end, there is no ban on bitcoin found and maybe restricted to certain countries due to a large number of scammers on behalf of fake bitcoin investments, bitcoin doubler bulk link sharing, etc. On the other hand, I support the #bitcoin ban on Facebook to avoid scammers.

Try to relax a little, because you can still find relevant post if you use other #. In my opinion this is not anti-bitcoin activity by Facebook and it is possible that you have been banned from posting because it is irrelevant to you.

I tried using the hashtag #bitcoin and it is working, I don't think that Facebook has the problem with the bitcoin maybe it is only a temporary one, and maybe because of your location and besides there are still many crypto pages that are still working so I don't think that Facebook has an issue with the bitcoin.

Btw, can you tell us what was that research that you need to do, can you give some ideas for us? I'm just curious lol. Just check it tomorrow hoping that it will work.

The good news is, about 3 years ago a similar action by Facebook and Google led to huge panic selling.

Looks like this time, people simply roll their eyes and continue believing in crypto.

Everytime I am logged into Facebook I am disappointed as I know I am giving away my personal information to them. The last time I was very dissatisfied with them was in 2018 when they completely banned all cryptocurrency related pages and discussion.

But, it is also true that it is easy to reach people on Facebook using their ad placement techniques for which I need to login to their platform every now and then.
