People will always have something to say about anything which they don't understand. So if you know people who are considering this technology as one, then leave them be. This thread is all about "what if" and none of them are really saying that Bitcoin is a scam.

But I agree with what you're saying: it was already legit before it became a popular cryptocurrency, based on the chain and the people that invested in it. So it's quite unlikely that bitcoin will be a hoax right now, given its big bull run and the large number of people who have invested in it. If bitcoin is a scam then no one will ever try to develop projects like ETH right now and people will get to afraid and avoid cryptocurrency forever.
