https://ethereum.org/en/eth2/

"Phase 1.5: mainnet becomes a shard
Expected: 2021

Up until Phase 1.5, the Ethereum we use today on mainnet will continue as a proof-of-work blockchain. Transactions will continue to be processed by miners. But in Phase 1.5, mainnet will officially become a shard and transition to proof-of-stake.

For end users and dapps, this change should be seamless."

There is a very good opinion on this: do not burden your head with unnecessary questions and mine Ethereum while it is profitable. There will still be a lot of controversy about phases 1.5 and 2.0, I think that another 1 year will not worry.

At this point DEC 1 is the DATE for ETH 2.0 genesys "deposit"

initially it was jan 1 2021, but apparently they made it sooner. Be ready to deposit your ETH for %, keep in mind that IT IS 1 WAY ROAD as of right now. CanT reverse that.

Keep in mind, that you will be locking up your Eth for a couple of years, if you decide to stake at this point.

Read
Guide: How to become a validator on Eth2
https://bankless.substack.com/p/-guide-how-to-become-a-validator

What does Ethereum 2.0 have to do with mining? Phase 1.5 will stop mining.

Questions about Ethereum 2.0 should be asked here

Also if you stake it and don't have 99% or better uptime then you'll end up paying to stake instead of getting money back. I was considering it until I saw the 99% uptime - every residential and commercial service in California that I've tried cannot do 99 uptime. Plus I have no idea how much bandwidth that's going to take and ISPs may throttle that.

Based on the eth2 calculator, we are looking at roughly 15% roi. Not great but definitely better than putting the cash from the sale of my rigs in the bank  Cheesy.

How does the penalty affect validators in a pool?

How did you calculate the profitability, if the profit depends on the number of locked ETH on the schedule.
You don't know how much Ethereum will cost when you can unlock your coins

How does the penalty affect validators in a pool?
