Btc is a garbage token,

*Updated* nov 7th

Some bought btc at 20k~ years ago and are waiting to be up.

I got btc at ~6000 and sold for ~14k a long time ago, this is why...

Btc uses ~90twh per year, (more than it used when it was worth ~20k usd) that’s nearly the entire energy usage of the Philippines. ~double that of Portugal. (3)

I read our world’s banking systems use ~130 twh per year,(this includes atms and branches) (1)

they transfer ~440 trillion usd per year through ~800 billion transaction.(2)
(% of total gdp is ~24% (adjusting for inflation,100-110) 110x4)

Btc uses ~90 twh , transfers ~3 trillion.(does not include atms and branches...)

Using direct correlation logic; btc could use 13,500 twh to transfer everything!
(If add in branches and atms then the number reaches 54,000 twh)

Btc seems to pollute more co2 than any other company.

Btc lacks scalability, dapp versatility, btc has high fees.
(With a change to proof of stake which can take 2-5 years ~ , Btc and eth 2.0 systems are still obsolete compared to others.)

I guess changing to proof of stake lowers the total from 54,000 twh per year to ~340twh, (270+70). 340twh is much higher than 130. Other token’s systems can compete with the banking systems already.

Everytime u trade btc u are basically killing a few chipmunks (or equivalent weight of other animal/s).

If prefer green energy then I recommend the first step to be helping to elect a president for USA that will rid the federal reserve. The federal reserve supports big bank owners these big banks support oil through savings accounts. Then comes subsidizing...
Make public land owned evenly by the citizens

Apparently btc owners are unaware why it is garbage and or have greed problems and or lack much empathetic ability.

Lol do you have proof of this? I assume you've got a whole dissertation I can read...?

Does it cover the amount of capacity of renewable energy increases in Canada, the nordics and China? You can't get coal and natural gas cheap enough anyway...

Humans lack empathy and produce co2 too and are the biggest producer of it on the earth, we should get rid of them.

I read China uses very much coal. you’re asking for proofs (which I should have included)(thanks for reminding me)) yet not giving them.

This is to make life better for humans...How can humans live in a good environment if they are all dead?

There is nothing wrong with using energy. Do you live in a dark cave and eat raw vegetables?

Users of electricity are not polluting. The polluters are the generators of electricity. If electricity generators switched to solar or wind, you would have nothing to complain about.

OP's got a point though, the power usage is freakishly high but OP did not account for energy alternatives. I do not necessarily agree with some of his points but we need to address that energy consumption matter at hand. The usage of renewable sources is still low around the globe and I think the community can do something to help in the progression even if it is small contribution.

Yes! and it's not like coal is the only source of energy anyway. A lot already use alternative and renewable energy to provide electricity to people.

To OP, why don't you criticize the resource usage of the banking system? they pollute more than Bitcoin, weak security, and has extremely high fees. It's like doubles or more the resource usage of Bitcoin.

Everytime u trade btc u are basically killing a few chipmunks (or equivalent weight of other animal/s).

Yeah, whenever you use a fiat currency, you are basically killing an entire habitat along with the animals in it.

Do you realize how bad btc is for the environment?

When some members did calculations of how much total energy consumption per year is needed for BTC to function, the figures were so negligible that it is really ridiculous when compared to what other sectors (eg banking) spend.

Uses ~90twh per year, that’s nearly the entire energy usage of the Philippines. ~double that of Portugal.

There is no doubt that this is a large amount of electricity, but again most crypto miners are concentrated around systems that produce so-called green (renewable) energy. Although some may live in the belief that it is really green energy, in order to create the conditions for its production, drastic changes are taking place in the environment that significantly affect people and animals. However, the amount of electricity that is literally thrown away is far greater than the total consumed by BTC, here are a few posts that perhaps best illustrate this.

Quote
If Bitcoin technology were to mature by more than 100 times its current market size, it would still equal only 2 percent of all energy consumption.

Exactly, These Fudsters need something better than "Bitcoin is causing the climate change!" It's not you dumbfucks! At least get your numbers right. More energy is being wasted around than what Bitcoin's network uses for the whole year.

On Average an American wastes around 283 KW of energy each month.

Multiply that by 12 months, that's 3396 KW of energy wasted for a year!

Let's take the least favourable figures and say only 50 million Americans waste this much energy all year round. That's around 169800000000 KW of energy wasted which translates into 169.8 TW of energy wasted each year! While Bitcoin's Network hardly uses 75 TW of energy for the whole year.

Anybody complaining about Bitcoin using too much Electricity or is causing the climate change needs to check up with a doc, Cuz Numbers don't lie hun!

Let's beat this with actual statistics, I think it's pretty obvious this person doesn't really understand anything about what she is talking about anyway.

Going off a graphic, it seems in 2018 the world used 200,000 (TWH), and following the usually % increase in electricity cost, it's fair to say that ~ 84.23 TWH has been used in 2019. Now, I am using a tool created by students at Cambridge university - https://www.cbeci.org/.

With the current bitcoin network power (which keep in mind, is even higher then the network power last year), it estimates that 10-11 GW is being used a year for bitcoin network power. 0.042‬% of electricity... That is not a much, compared to how much % other services take up.

Everytime u trade btc u are basically killing a few chipmunks (or equivalent weight of other animal/s).

If you're going to look at it from that angle, then know that every time you turn on your computer, drive your car or use an ATM you're doing harm to the environment - but that's the price we all pay to live the way we live today.

The good old straw man argument that Bitcoin is bad for the environment.

You're comparing a whole economy built upon a number of companies to a single company.

How does Bitcoin produce anything? It's a digital coin.

What about the CO2 that you produce? You heat your home, use a computer, possibly drive a car? Maybe if you're such a CO2 freak you'll make the world better and start walking instead of driving, cut your power cables and heat up the house with solar panels?

How much energy usage is too much? What criteria do you use to determine how much is too much?

The energy from the sun is a hard cap (assuming no nuclear, fossil fuel, tidal, or geothermal generation) so it makes sense to think of it in those terms. The earth receives 174000000 GW of energy from the sun, and Bitcoin uses about 9 GW, or about 0.0000051%. In those terms, energy usage by Bitcoin is a long way from being a problem.

Some people claim that Bitcoin energy usage is a problem because it is higher than the usage by <insert country here>. That implies that energy usage by <insert country here> is also a problem, and I'm sure that the people of <insert country here> would disagree.

I understand your frustration and let me guess why.  But first, let me ask you a question.

Have you ever held bitcoins good enough to sustain your 10 years of living?  If not, then that might be one of the reason why you hate it. You never had a single Bitcoin.

Psychology basis, you're just hating things you can't have easily.  You're the one who lacks empathy and the one who has greed issues. Because you're too impatient, you can't have what you want and the only option you have is to hate.

Show us your resources, we will be more than happy to read.  You should study about how fiat is being created first, especially the early days.  Also the coins that our minerals are on expense and then go back to your topic.
