For now the threat can occur because of the vaccine from Covid19,
we know the impact of the pandemic on cryptocurrencies is very big, it has been seen in the increase in the price of Bitcoin,
news that in 2021 a vaccine is ready to be distributed to the world, for cryptocurrencies of course it is still a mystery,
but This is just my speculation, because the vaccine is available everyone returns to their normal life and people readyto sell their investment.
It is not a threat and for me it gives us opportunity to enter in cheap price, look what happened when the price drops up to $3,000 area, there is a huge wick there where the price rejects that area and saying there are a lot of demands in the bitcoin. The price manages to comeback and recover easily even though that there is still pandemic. The biggest threat that I'm seeing right now is still the regulations and the laws implementing of the government. There are people who are afraid even to use bitcoin because they do not want to get in jail or to have penalty, that kind of scenario have affects to the price of the bitcoin. There are more a lot of factors why there are threats to the price of the bitcoin and we can become aware to it if we study more about economics.

I agree that the government poses the biggest threat.

As natural disasters would come, as high technologies would be developed in the future with strong processing power, I think it is still the government that holds the first seat. They could implement laws, they could influence people, in short, they have control over whether to stop or accept the usage of cryptocurrencies. It won't stop the technology but I think it is hard for the people using Bitcoin if all of their governments in this world ban it. When China banned Bitcoin, the price went down, that just proves how can it affect the price of Bitcoin.
I can also agree that Bitcoin's biggest threat is the government since they can do a firewall in their country if they really want to ban bitcoin usage on their authority. It has a big impact too, just imagine if all the countries are recognizing the nature of bitcoin and the benefit that it can give to every people, there's a big possibility that online transaction is being widened too. Natural disasters and pandemic are one of the reasons for making the market downfall but the market can really recover from that happenings, just like what happened when the pandemic spreads, the market falls down but look at the market today, it is really pumping and even reaching its highest peak since what happened last three years ago.

in my opinion the only threat to bitcoin is only government. wayback 2017 bitcoin is so popular in media but not as a good example of financial asset but a threat to people a big scam or a bubble. government trying to destroy this kind of digital currency

Government can do deeper damage since most people are not yet been involved to this industry way back 2017, it's easier for the government to say something and generalized it to create bad images and scares the people to come and invest.

But, since there's already a lots of exposures with the help of mass Media this kind of stuff ain't hurting anymore, more people got involved now after learning the advantage and potentials coming from this industry.

To the loss of various industries, the demand of people towards the market of Bitcoin is increasing. If the price of Bitcoin goes up, the government and no one will be able to interfere in its price. Whales are the biggest threat and they can't keep up with the market demand. No one can change the equation and but governments can use digital currency to improve their country. The biggest threat is to increase the price of Bitcoin. When the price goes up, everything, including the whales, loses their interference.

About your question, what could case bitcoin to go below $5,000 are the whales taking the profit therefore dumping the price. You dont  need any big external factor, just big traders taking the profit, and then later on buying it cheaper, increasing their stack.Thats what all of us should do really, see dump as opportunity to increase bags and not panick and worry about future of bitcoin.

Anyone that have investment have to be worry about it because the person is thinking of he or her profit in such business, first I know very well that you are assuming the price and from the look of things I don't really think that bitcoin can return it's price to $5,000  based on companies and people that adventure into it, it's obvious that traders makes bitcoin price to accelerate due to marketcap of bitcoin but recently is like their is newly innovation of bitcoin, I don't really think traders still have such power to regulate bitcoin price.

Bitcoin has been pumping since the beginning of this year, which is making many investors wonder the way bitcoin is rising in the market, that is causing other cryptocurrencies to reduce in the market. Many traders are trading with fear base on what they are hearing from other trader that bitcoin price will soon dump in the exchange market.
According to some researcher, many new project are about to take place in the market, that will help many people to make a good profit before the end of the year.

Whatever measures that governments can take against bitcoin we will always find a way to avoid them, even if they found a way to block bitcoin traffic then the developers will find a way around that and we will back in business, they have no way to stop a decentralized enemy, just look at torrents, while many centralized ways to download files have gone down because of the music and movie industries torrents are still in place and that is because it is impossible to destroy an enemy that is fully decentralized.

IMO, the biggest threat will come from Bitcoin itself. Imagine what will happen, if the user base increases by 5x or 10x in a relatively short period of time. Even now the Blockchain is struggling to process the transactions without much delay. What will happen, once the number of users and thereby the number of transactions increase by 5x? The Mempool size will increase without any limit and users will be forced to pay huge amounts as transaction fee.

biggest threat? I think the biggest threat is about the death of the Internet !,
but it is still a mystery, so now relax, Bitcoin is without a threat, the country cannot be a threat.

The biggest threat in my opinion is hackers and scammers, because both can make Bitcoin's price go down. So I think the positive
thing is that some exchanges have implemented KYC, at least it can reduce the amount of fraud that occurs. But sometimes
the policies of several major countries towards Bitcoin can affect the price of Bitcoin, In conclusion, we must be careful when investing
in Bitcoin. Because Bitcoin is a high risk asset.

The two possible obstacles to the ongoing Bitcoin and Ethereum rallies are the U.S. dollar recovery. The recovery of the dollar could cause the uptrend of Bitcoin, gold, and other cryptocurrencies to slow.

Hi,

As everybody keeps pointing out that Bitcoin is a risky investment, I'm trying to get a better understanding of the greatest risks to my coin.

I must admit that sun flares and quantum computers were not what I was expecting to find when I googled this but alas...

https://medium.com/coinmonks/the-5-biggest-threats-for-bitcoin-that-have-the-potential-to-destroy-it-9b3845ebcd1d

https://decrypt.co/29625/the-biggest-threats-to-bitcoin-in-2020

To be fair, I think these sources are talking about things that would all but wipe out Bitcoin rather than just reducing the price.

I was wondering what you guys think is the most likely instances that would cause the price of bitcoin would sink back below say the $5,000 or the $10,000 mark?

This is a great start of a conversation!

I trade in the cryptocurrency market and use an advanced strategy called Elliot Wave Principle. It entails that in every IMPULSE, there will always be a CORRECTION. Price does not pump or dump straight, there is always a range. In every bull market, there will always be bear market. If you explain it in simplest way.

In correlation with that, in the Elliot Wave Perspective, Bitcoin is typically in the longest pump from its birth in 2009 and didn't create any macro correction. Way back when I was studying Elliot Wave, my mentor discussed about any reason or event that could make that happen.... Then he mentioned about the incoming solar flares. It is a event where all electronic devices will stop for a while, might take days because of that event. So technically what I mean is that this is only a temporary event but could have a big impact to prices of Bitcoin.

There's credibility that will cause bitcoin taken a toll diminish,For me the wholesalers are brief advertising, they are advertising a sweeping entirety of their bitcoins to cause solidify from the small merchants and all interface in advertising so the fetched falls and they buy with cheap.Financial Institutions and   government can besides make bitcoin costs drop, when all countries prohibit trades related to bitcoin, unquestionably the bitcoin fetched will drop. Another is when there's a negative issue related to bitcoin, where there's a huge software engineer attack on the progressed exchange, this issue can make various merchants push and instantly exchange their bitcoin for other resorces.

All those reasons mentioned in that article are not really practical threats in 2020, people may find something better than bitcoin which could make the prices to goes to zero is the only possible and acceptable reason in my opinion which is unlikely going to happen anyway.

The ignorance and indifference clause written in the article caught my attention, but I don't think it could be a reason. As a result, today people can easily obtain information by researching a subject they do not know. The market range of Bitcoin is expanding day by day and its use in various industries is becoming widespread. As we know, I do not think that any state can intervene in this situation and prevent its development. The possibilities in the article are very unlikely to happen.

The issue of scale has always been a problem for bitcoin and it is known that this was discussed by satoshi and many of the people that originally knew about the existence of bitcoin, however what you are proposing is very unlikely that will happen so suddenly, it is going to be a long process before we see that kind of increase in the number of transactions and by the time that happens we really hope that most people begin to use the lightning network so they can get faster confirmations and cheaper fees.

The volatile crypto market has hurt various industries but bitcoin has had no effect, but as its price has fallen traders have become increasingly frustrated the epidemic has pushed up the price of bitcoin even more even if each coin has a higher value it will go down. There is nothing to be frustrated about dumping if you invest more in bitcoin the price will go up again traders make profits because of volatile profits due to the stability of the fiat currency its demand is much lower.

in my opinion the only threat to bitcoin is only government. wayback 2017 bitcoin is so popular in media but not as a good example of financial asset but a threat to people a big scam or a bubble. government trying to destroy this kind of digital currency

Government isn't trying to destroy bitcoin. It's not illegal, the government did not rush out regulations. They were pretty slow to even start regulating bitcoin exchanges and other financial businesses, and really it's mostly been the states that have done this, not even the federal government has attempted to regulate bitcoin to this point. It's not credible to believe that government wants to destroy bitcoin, and they've made no attempts to do so.

The government has no rules about it. Even now the government has no authority in destroying bitcoin, what should it be because this world group of bitcoins cannot be destroyed with one government if it wants to.
In fact, I do not think that it is clear that the adoption will gradually occur because in the future this technology will definitely be used in world governments, so still bitcoin cannot be destroyed by any group of people, even I believe there is interference from government people in moving the price of bitcoin.

The volatile crypto market has hurt various industries but bitcoin has had no effect, but as its price has fallen traders have become increasingly frustrated the epidemic has pushed up the price of bitcoin even more even if each coin has a higher value it will go down. There is nothing to be frustrated about dumping if you invest more in bitcoin the price will go up again traders make profits because of volatile profits due to the stability of the fiat currency its demand is much lower.
bitcoin is very influenced by trends, right? of course bitcoin will have a pretty big effect on an industry because they have a large number of users. For example, paypal recently announced about bitcoin, and was followed by several celebrities and billionaires who bought bitcoin because they believed that bitcoin was the "future".
