Don't ask me who or from which campaign. My intention isn't to insult someone. Today I noticed someone from a reputed user and from a reputed campaign posting on eight years old thread. OP asked questions before eight years and he is offline for two years, no one replied yet there. That reply was the first reply but I was surprised when seeing the poster is well-known and he has a good experience. I don't know if he noticed the date of the original thread or he just filling up his weekly quota for the Signature campaign. I have reported that post and I am pretty sure that will be deleted by the moderator according to my past experience.

Why I am writing this? Because to make awareness that we should avoid such as posting behavior. Although the reply was constructive, but who knows if the OP still alive? Can't at least we read the date of the main post where we are going to make a reply?

It's possible to mess up when trying to sort threads and it's also possible someone spam bumped the thread and that user posted on it.

I'm not sure if the second is against the rules, normally when I see it I just ignore it and check it doesn't grow too much further. I think there are also constructive reasons for bumping an old thread (even if forum rules call it flogging the dead) and there's potentially little reason a new thread couldnt have been made referencing the old one...

You're probably referring to my response in this thread that I already removed: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=98544.0

Why did I respond? Some dude apparently necro-bumped the thread(thanks to Csmiami for pointing it out), and since the topic was bumped to the first page near the top, I just responded normally and completely assumed that the topic was new.

Yes, I fucked up. But was my mistake really THAT bad?

Well, I must say that I did report the necrobump for obvious reasons and it got deleted; so to someone coming after the deletion of the post, it may look like you were the one bumping it (there was no quote to the bump in your post).

I don't know if he noticed the date of the original thread or he just filling up his weekly quota for the Signature campaign.
Except the thread is a stickie, the poster would have gotten the warning, that the thread they are about to reply to has not been posted on for over 120 days, and they should reconsider if the want to reply or start a new thread on the topic.

Although the reply was constructive, but who knows if the OP still alive?
Is there a possibility that the reply would still be relevant today and helpful to other members who may have a similar inquiry?
Waking dead threads may be unethical in some situations, but a user could have a valid reason for choosing to do that, I think there are much easier ways to spam than digging up 8 year old threads.

*Edit: Issue solved. I'll also vote for that thread to be locked to prevent future bumps.

Well, reading the above posts indicate that it's a genuine mistake. I know shit like this happens here on the forum.
We are humans and we tend to make mistakes. It's just the intention behind it that matters and this one seems genuine  Smiley
For me it's a general practice to look the date on OP before making a post anywhere on the forum.

Also, how about asking Theymos to bold the timestamp for every post just like how "Today" is bolded for posts made on the same day.
This might help us to look at the timestamp more often.

Sometime it happens if someone necro bump a thread and I wouldn’t blame mk4 in this case at all. Sometimes, It's possible that one has posted in a thread without looking at the thread creation date, who does check all the times? I barely look at the date to be honest. I read the thread itself and other people responses and if I think I should add something, I do without looking at the thread creation date. So, it can happen unintentionally.

On exceptional cases its okay to post on a old thread because it maybe important to get such discussion at that time but looking at the thread you mentioned its nit really important and its just a generic thread created with not much of contribution so those kinds of activities should not be tolerated no matter who it is from.

I often faced this necro bump problem in many threads on altcoin discussion, I usually do report to moderator to make the post get deleted ASAP. But sometime we'll see many other spammers will continuing reply before read the date on the thread created Cheesy That's wouldn't ended until moderator locked the thread.

That's what report to moderator used for this kind problem.

I understand that this can be difficult and unnecessary work for moderators, but is it possible to completely block old topics that are no longer relevant?
Sometimes we see a topic created several years ago, and the issues discussed in it can be useful in today's time. If you just create a similar topic, but with more modern information, and just block the old topics?
It's just that everyone has long understood that more recent news and fresh information is stored on the last pages. How many people read the topic started a few years ago, from the very beginning?
Can you just repeat the discussion without bringing it to a mega volume?

Nah, I never said you are a bad poster even I hadn't mentioned the thread here. A mistake is a mistake, doesn't matter bad or good. I wasn't sure but I assumed someone replied before you but wondered you should point him by reporting the thread. My intention wasn't to bring you here. Just trying to remind others that we should read the topic date as well during posting.

Anyway, mistakes could happen to me as well. Reminding such as things will help reduce unnecessary posts from the forum.

Don't take it personally.
