Inactive Moderators

I observed something very vital in this forum and I need someone to enlighten me on why some board moderators have been inactive for almost a year or plus now and why are there no moderators in some other busy boards like the Off topic are they outlaws?  the few boards with inactive/ retired /banned moderators are;

Beginner and Help Moderator
MiningBuddy (last seen April 2018)

My questions are

1. Who moderates these boards in the absent of its moderators?

2. What happenned  to these accounts?

3. There are several good readers and very active users with good reputation like. Ratimov DdmrDdmr, Vod
CrpytoprenuerBrainboss,
Lovesmayfamilis and many other good ones although I don't know how moderators are selected or the criteria of selection but these users are just everywhere and very active why are these vital positions still vacant??

Hope these observations don't put ME in trouble I'm nothing but pencil in the hand of the creator.

Global mods can handle anything in any boards. Some mods like users just disappear. Inactive mods' names probably should be removed from the subs they're allocated to though. If someone wants to be a mod just keep reporting and if theymos feels you'd be beneficial on staff he may ask you at some point.

Global mods (hilarious, mprep and Mr. Big) have been moderating Beginners&Help for quite a long time since when Mitchell resigned from the role and Mining Buddy was removed as moderator. Admins didn't remove the name from moderators list but Mining buddy were removed from the position a long time ago. See this :

As I said, he was removed as a mod a long time ago. Theymos just hasn't removed his name from there and only he can do that. It's the same with the Press board.

2. What happenned  to these accounts?

They could have become busy with their real life and stopped moderating our forum. It's a personal question which could only be answered by the specific account.

Moderators are chosen primarily based on reporter statistics but that alone isn't important as they should have good reputation and be neutral in decision making.

There will only be one moderator.

Report history is the most important consideration for a moderator candidate. Over the forum's many years, relatively "newbie" members with good report histories have consistently done much better as mods than veteran, well-respected members with poor report histories. That said, not all reports are equal, so a simple report count doesn't tell the whole story. Also, in addition to report histories, it's necessary to consider factors such as the ability of the candidate to be neutral, their trustworthiness, etc. It's also nice to choose a moderator who people generally already trust/respect, but sometimes this is outweighed by other factors.

theymos feels that the current spam is being controllable by global mods. If we see a huge influx of spammers, theymos might appoint one based on reports and trustworthiness.

And it probably is being managed pretty well by those global mods.  I haven't visited the Altcoin section, B&H, P&S, or the Off-topic sections in a long time, so I don't have any sense of how bad spam is in those sections.  But in the sections that I do visit frequently I have seen a pretty dramatic drop in shitposts as of late.

That could be because traffic has also dropped dramatically, as I saw reported in another thread.  If that's the case, I wouldn't rule out another forum-wide infestation with illiterate garbage posters should the number of bounties/campaigns increase (and probably along with an increase in bitcoin's price as well).  Both of those factors tend to draw desperate people looking to make a quick buck without having to do much, and they more often than not don't contribute anything useful.

These moderators who "disappear":  don't they let Theymos know they're not going to be actively moderating for whatever period of time?  I get that members come and go, but if you're a moderator I would think it'd be proper to resign like you would with a real life job.

So we wait till things get darker before we find solutions? This is medicine after death, this forum operates at 100‰ efficiency we shouldn't let it slide.

Theymos would have to confirm the reason for this. But moderating the forum was an unpaid job early on and users volunteered to do it for free, this is not to justify them getting paid after resigning, but without the actual facts, it's best not to reach conclusions.

That's just one criteria. I'm certain not anyone can be appointed as a staff by simply making multiple reports. There has to be a need for them and they need to have shown ability to function efficiently in that capacity as well as deep understanding of the forum rules and ethics.

Theymos mentioned few times that he is not interested in hiring anyone to become moderator because he is not having trust on forum members to have such positions. Probably he is too busy to select the right person to fit into that section or simply let the global mods to handle it.

No, that's not what I'm saying. I've never seen anyone made a mod as a newbie other than the people who were hired for other business here but they're only really mods in name and don't seem to moderate much if anything at all. There are numerous high-ranked users with multiple thousands of reports and I'm sure a newbie would not be chosen over them if a new mod was needed but its all about demand.

Probably @theymos saw that the global moderators did their job accurately and there's no need to hire another one as of now.  As for what @hilariousandco said, they can handle on different boards.  So there's no need to hire another one, plus, there are staff and patrollers that may contribute and helping the forum maintain clean.  Let's assume that as of now, they can handle everything.

Since every one of us here didn't know the real who we are, let's assume that they found better to hang out than the forum or other reason they passed away.

I saw there is potentially one in the Beginners and Help section, and that is @DdmrDdmr who actively posted on that board and helping newbies.  And I think, he/she will deserve if @theymos will decide to hire a new moderator.

I saw that there's someone who opened a voting thread for global moderators and also a discussion thread.  Why not if there's someone who will open a thread like this.  And there's someone who opened a voting poll to nominate the next moderators.  

But in my mind, I have doubt that @theymos have his own list of potential moderators or global moderators.  Just like when @theymos choose a moderator in the Politics and Society section, on this thread.  

Much better if we wait for @theymos decision, I know he just watching on us.
