Here folk can put some 'modest' stories of ...what may have been very sensible...back in the day on a Bitcoin Purchase which is just 'crazy' today.

As an example, I sent Lightfoot, here on www.bitcointalk.org I think it was 1.5 to 2.5 Bitcoin to have some KNC Titan Scrypt Miner cube

boards repaired. Ack!

On the other hand, on the 'brief' time..I think it was 2015 and PayCoin was making it's POW mining 'set-up' for the coin to setup for POS coin network...

for 1 week to set it up as a 'supposed' POS coin (was a scam) ..I converted all that PayCoin to BTC and that was like 0.66 BTC as the last 'life' of my 2013 KNC Jupiter

Miner...which may have already been 'off' for a year..but they were doing this on a sha-256 blockchain ..so what the hell, I thought. Fire up the KNC Jupiter Toy! Smiley

So I have to keep the faith now in case in the next 3-4 years we again have another 10x repeat in value for Bitcoin! I need to 'accumulate' BTC Dust! Smiley

I have a 'mess' of dubious losses of BTC on dubious stuff. Post your 'regrets' here. Take the Poll. Smiley

When I got into Bitcoin a little deeper and more serious than my previous encounters with it, the price was around $500. I accumulated a few Bitcoins. I bought some; I earned some. But I also converted some of it in fiat and then spent it. A few Bitcoins were converted for no important reason at all. I sold them simply because I thought I have already earned enough from them. Some I sold because I was afraid the price would crash.

I voted for extreme pain out of the value I wasted. I sold some when the price was way lesser than $2,000. But no regrets here. I am not one who wallow over what I could have done. Sometimes memories come back. But, you know, I got lessons.

I've sold some bitcoin in the past with the price as low as around $700. Do I regret it? Slightly, but not really. It's not like I used the money to buy useless stuff, as I used the money to grow an online business. Though I would have made a lot more money buy holding the bitcoin instead of starting online businesses, the knowledge I've gained is definitely worth it.

i view bitcoin as a currency and just like any currency i never regret after spending it, for instance when i buy groceries i don't cry about having spent my money.

as for selling bitcoin, i believe i have reached a good equilibrium between selling and hoarding also timing. i sell enough at times when the price has gone up enough and mostly when there is a bubble that looks to be ready to pop (eg last month of 2017). but i don't sell everything because i still believe in the long term potential of bitcoin. that small amount sold is to give me a good profit and moderately reduce the risks i take.
i also do the opposite during the reverse-bubbles where i know the price is at the bottom and it is about to pop and price to shoot up so i buy more bitcoin (eg. the $3k range).

I once sold 50 BTC for ~$7.50-- though mostly I was seeing if withdraw from mtgox actually worked, and it did-- and was extremely pleased with myself because it was within a penny of the ATH for a month or more.  -- Why 50 BTC?  well that was a block reward back then, just a small amount of Bitcoins, wouldn't want to test with a really serious amount...

I later bought back that amount and more at $3.something.  Would happily do again.   Grin

I think it can be easy to not regret selling:  Just don't be over-invested to the point where you feel forced to make sales you don't want to make.  Any sale you made of your own free will is a good one, even if you don't double what you sold buying back a few months later.

back in 2012 on BTCe it was so easy to sell.. was about $8/btc and those troll box were just awesome.  Were not as large as Gox back than we had only like 500 users at any given time.  But topping off and withdraw with paypal was just awesome.  It was so easy to empty out the sell orders back then.

The trick was wait until someone buy up the $2-$8/btc entries in the bid book and watch it evaporate, than get your bot to sell those coins at $40(no joke)/btc right after and make handsome profit!  Plenty of visa Even after buying out all those video cards from multiple retail outlet, it was a vicious cycle.

I remember 3000 btc was rather small back than and it you used to be able to top off using visa / paypal deposit and withdraw without anyone blink an eye.  the entire order book for buy was no more than 100k.  Did not lost any coins because we quit once BTCe imposed daily withdraw limit.  The fun ended Cry

My regret was failure to convert those to 10,25,100 BTC from Casascius..  They look so much better than current cold cryptosteel wallet.

Back when the price of Bitcoin was about $300 or $400 .... I bought a couple of coins as an investment. Just a few months after that, the price went up to more than $800 and I figured that doubling my investment was way more return on my investment that I would ever see with any other investment option, so I sold all of them.

The price then went up to $1000 and later in 2017 to more than $18 000 .....so imagine my regret, when that happened.  Roll Eyes  That was my "Lazlo" moment in Bitcoin, but I think I would do it again under the same circumstances... because the opposite could also have happened and the whole experiment could have failed and I might have lost everything.  Wink

Just a side note.... I used the profit of those bitcoins to pay some of my debt and I saved loads of interest on those loans. It also enabled me to save some money to buy more coins and I sold those coins for a 600% profit, when the price was at a all-time-high again.  Grin

I have 2 regrets on bitcoin. I started my online journey back in 2008 where I used to make wordpress websites for an agency who used to sell them to their clients. So I had head the name bitcoin back in mid 2009 when the prices were in cents. But just didn't take interest. I could have easily purchased few thousand bitcoins if I wished that time which could have made me a rich man today! Just missed one of a lifetime opportunity!

Then I actually entered into bitcoin market in 2015 when the price was around $300. That time I was just cautious and wasn't super positive about bitcoin. So I started trading and started making decent amount of money from it. Whatever I used to earn, I had cashed out through a known seller via paypal. I have cashed out more than 90 bitcoins this way. Never realized that HODLing bitcoin would have given me another opportunity to become rich. Lost that race as well.

We all first have doubts about it I've sold mine for a few bucks before but now take a look how high the prices are let's hope the price of Bitcoin increases more
at least we have something good happened in 2020. Well we can't go back to the previous time so all we can do is to look forward now.

I think that everyone involved into bitcoin since 2014-2015 has spend a lot of money if compared with today value.
it's not a mistake since we were in profit. I haven't anything to regret, maybe some of this expense were just pure vanity but it was well deserved the same Wink since I have always evaluated as more valuable bitcoin knowledge and not the value on the market.

I have, yes, Extreme Pain!
I learned about bitcoin since its inception when I was making money online. But my specificity of work was far from him, although I was offered payment in bitcoin. And you can imagine my feelings when I later saw his growth. I have one life, unfortunately, and this cannot be changed, I am very sorry that I did not join the Bitcoin society at an earlier time.

I don't regret any of my past sales, the fact that Bitcoin is higher right now, so the rest of my coins are more valuable is more than enough to chase away this sort of thoughts. My only "dubious" spending was investing 0.011 BTC in an ICO scam - this was the first and the last ICO I invested in. And my biggest spending was cashing out 1 BTC at $650 to buy a new BTC, but I still don't regret it, because this PC was a big upgrade for me that made me happier and still serves me well.

Regret on actions when you see the price surge so high and you sell at the low price is normal but it doesn't make sense to regret when you sell your coins long time ago since your just stressing yourself so focus to the current situation and learn so that you can react if the market act the same as before.

If you already sell move on and buy again we have so many opportunity and so don't waste your time thinking about the past sales.

I voted for "So/So! I Can Take The Pain!"  Grin but still a tough loss. It was back in 2017 when altcoins were exploding together with Bitcoin and my altcoin worth was around 18K USD which was a very high sum, especially for the country I was living back then. I got greedy and didn't sell a single coin and watched it plummeted down to nothing. However, we learn from our mistakes and now I'm back stronger than ever.

I have regretted having sold Bitcoin after seeing how it has behaved this year. Also after seeing how large companies like MicroStrategy bought 38,250 Bitcoin. I told myself that something big is coming for Bitcoin because more companies are buying Bitcoin with their Treasury Reserves. But my sale was necessary, my family is first and Bitcoin was there for me to sort things out. On whether it is too late to earn with Bitcoin the answer is no, according to this tweet by Michael Saylor.

Quote
#Apple could generate $ 100 billion or more in shareholder value if they integrated #Bitcoin into Apple Pay, built a secure crypto wallet into the iPhone, and began buying #BTC with their Treasury Reserves. h / t @ETFProfessor

I doubt there is anyone who won’t regret some sales in the past 5 years or more, but few have been able to predict the future to the extent that they were convinced of what would happen during 2017, or what is happening today.

I started with crypto as a regular small faucet claimer, who then tried to trade by buying up to as much as 5 BTC (around $200 per BTC) and selling them for a small profit. I have to admit that at the time it seemed pretty incredible to me that someone said that BTC would reach at least $10 000 in 3 years (Tim Draper), but it happened.

Of course, as is often the case, I didn't keep my BTC, but I learned something from all that - there are very smart people in the world, sometimes you need to listen to their advice.

My strategy in Bitcoin was that I'd skim a bit of profit from the top every time Bitcoin would break a significant level and hold the rest. I always tried to make it so that if I made 0.1 BTC from a signature campaign, I'd make sure at least half of it is held to increase my balance every year. When the price was low like 2015,16, I'd hold, in 17 and early 18 I'd still hold most of it but try to spend what I was earning at the time. Second half of 2018 and first part of 2019 was accumulation again and I spent some profit during the holidays of 2019 and so on.
As a result I still hold coins from 2015 and have never spent a single coin on a ponzi scheme or shitcoins.

My greatest failures?
Sold BCH early and missed the 2018 pump.
Sold some BTC in 2016. It was very little, maybe 0.1BTC, but the price was sub 1k USD, so I still consider it a huge missed opportunity.

We all first have doubts about it I've sold mine for a few bucks before but now take a look how high the prices are let's hope the price of Bitcoin increases more
at least we have something good happened in 2020. Well we can't go back to the previous time so all we can do is to look forward now.

ya.ya.yo!

You could have saved your Bitcoins better, then you could have been wealthy now. Then only the tension would have gone with the currency in the bitcoin. Now it remains exciting every day.
Afterwards, it is always easy to judge.

I've been involved with Bitcoin off and on since 2014 and spent quite a bit in the years past, although I don't really regret spending it because in a way I was doing my part to help grow & support the Bitcoin economy. I remember when Bitcoin dropped to around $200 USD, I think it was around Thanksgiving of 2015, and I knew I should buy a bunch then, but was only able to purchase a little bit because I didn't have very much extra spending money at the time. So I kind of regret that. But, mainly, I regret all of the BTC I gambled away back in the day!

Mid 2016 I still can't forget that I started selling 0.1~ btc every month for like a hundred dollars as the price continued to go up it felt like it wasn't a bad decision. In total I sold like at least .5-.6 then next year the price went out of control even more. The bitcoins I sold went to paying my bills and peripherals i'd do it again if I needed some extra cash.  Wink

cool story brad . atleast that wasnt painful enough because you do it for a purpose and it was an important thing to you to fix your a miner because you can earn another coin again and you lost only over 1 btc which is cost lesser that time but other people spend thier btc in more less valueable things and they pay over 10 btc for that . my only regrets is that knowing btc late but i dont have regrets when it comes to hodling and selling because i joined on the right time when btc is on its highest and i also sell mine at a decent price .

I am regrets for not trusting my friend when I was invited to invest in Bitcoin in 2015, just try and trust my friend at that time.
Maybe I'm already rich right now, the next regret was when I bought Bitcoin in 2017 at a price of $ 11,000. Then finally decided
to sell Bitcoin in 2019 at a price of $ 5000, even though if I had a little patience I wouldn't have suffered big losses. But I have
learned from my mistakes, now I will be more careful in buying Bitcoin and be more patient with holding Bitcoin.

actually many experts have analyzed bitcoin will go up by $ 16000, but I doubt it and don't believe it.  I finally regret it now.  if i trusted the seniors i've been lucky a lot now .. but i'm not lucky yet.  I intend to buy bitcoin the price now but I am afraid that the price will go down.

It proves now. Bitcoin price now can increase to $16k after it stays at a low price for a long time ago. I think you can wait for a while because the price will go up by more than $16k, and at that time, you can make a big profit.

I don't feel too regret about my past in the crypto world because I tried to enjoy the ride, no matter I feel pain like other people, but I tried to let it happen and not think much about that. I am sure that we can make more than before in the future, and what we feel before will replace by making a profit from bitcoin.

So we should focus on what happened to the crypto world because the rise of crypto will come soon, and we can hope that we can make a big profit again.

I've never sold any Bitcoin but I have spent a lot over the years whenever I needed to buy something since I don't have a credit card or a bank account. One of the first purchases I made was when I spent 0.1 BTC on Purse.io for an item worth $50 on Amazon. It really stings because I've never been able to save that much BTC again. Every time I make a purchase it becomes harder to recoup that amount because the price keeps going up.

Just a few months before when BTC bull run started last 2017, I was able to buy some ETH and a small portion of BTC which I sold when the price went up a little for quick money. I also earned some ETH from altcoin bounties which I usually trad to BTC which I sold too during that time. The first bull market had been a roller coaster ride for me since it's my first time experiencing it, there are point when I bought out of FOMO and lost some money.

I regret so so much.

If only I knew the future lol, I have sold once 1 btc buying it at 200$ and selling at 220$. For $20, I gave away my $12,000 today lmfao.

There are so many regrets, yet I know there are people who might have bought much back then, and still hold them until now and they are like super rich now!

Thing is, it's pointless to regret. Everything happens for good, if you have money in your fate, you will get it, if there's no money in your fate, you won't be able to use it even if the money is in your hands!

As much as I want to regret, I don't want to remember it anymore. I guess we all have our unique and the same experiences in selling early and didn't anticipated that it will pump after selling. I am sure that there are people there that after the time they've sold, the price rose.
And the same with buying, after the time they bought, the price declined.

Of course, all of us would regret it now. But we shouldn't because we did it for a purpose in the past, and we don't know/expect that bitcoin price will pump like this or some of us expected it, but we need the money urgently.
My advice to other people who don't want to regret your past Bitcoin sales don't open your sale history. Just remember why you sell it if you don't have other options, probably you would not regret selling it.

One of my biggest regret in Bitcoin was selling it and holding it in Fiat currency,
The price went down that time so I didn't want to lose more so I decided to sell it and keep it that way and forgot about it,
After a few months the price went up and I thought I gain profit but I was wrong I didn't buy back BTC I just hold my Fiat.

You are right, we have to wait patiently for bitcoin investment the crypto market is not stable bitcoin is very difficult to say which way to go. So invest in Bitcoin and wait patiently until the price goes up because even if the price goes down bitcoin will start rising again and you will have to control your emotions and wait to avoid regrets so that you don't have to regret it later. Investors who bought Bitcoin in 2017 have now made a lot of profit. There is a possibility of further price increase in the future now is a good time to wait and invest in Bitcoin.

Its really regretful not buying Bitcoin or even Investing on Bitcoin once I had knowledge about it but its not my fault for being a costly student that would have the opportunity to invest in something great. Although its not too late for me since I am gladly indulging myself within the Cryptocurrency Industry.

I didn't really have a bad experience with bitcoin but my regret was not buying and holding much early before the price started considerably rising in 2017. but at the end of that year, I still got a 500% return(I think) from when I sold most of my BTC. so it is still a win-win for me but I regret not buying again after when the price plummeted the next year.

This is thousands of Bitcoins. I'm not even going to start counting but it hurts to see it. Hope you put the money to a good use because you could have been a billionaire. You could own people like CZ, Ver, and all other rich Bitcoiners.

Some great stories over here love to see and hear these incredible ups and downs bitcoin price causing each of us regretting whether to let your bitcoin sold at the very cheap price or losing it because of some hack shit.
I was once constantly buying giftcard worth of $10 to $100 with bitcoin and when i see the purchase history there plenty of transactions of 0.1 bitcoin for $100 giftcard which if you convert into current rates you will get $1600 giftcard! I did it not for once or twice but many times
There always a regret when you look back and there is a lot of things that you could actually save it all.
Cannot imagine those people who hold thousands bitcoin but release it for a coupoe buck only.

Nope.

This is an example of the true Opportunity Cost paid by some of the earliest Bitcoin folks, such as NLS and myself.

Thanks for the trade BitcoinFX!

I regret selling most of my Bitcoin last year when it was around $4K+ because of the fear that it would continue to dump and it wouldn't go up again.
I lose hope on it and tried to avoid investing in it again.

some people (we included) are into BTC circulation.

Those whom sacrafice and helped out with BTC circulations had sold off  some coins, some of us had BTC bought back when people were doing panic selling during extended dips.

The regret is that the BTC that were flipped on centralized exchange during earlier days were very bad for privacy.  It was fast profit in BTC never the less, but should have considered the method involved more carefully.

with each BTC well over $1000 privacy is important.

Most mixer have limited pool of bitcoin for privacy and it takes tons of smaller addresses over long period of time to break chain analysis associations.  Alot of manual work is now required, should of withdrawn in large # of small transactions from those centralized exchanges in the earlier days to make privacy preservation easier today.

Back at my memories when I first started doing earning Bitcoin, it is not really pretty much expensive compared to what the price it has right now, I think I have earned numerous Bitcoin before and sold for a very low affordable price for the only sake of me having an income in terms of earning Bitcoin for having a handful of money in my pocket. It is very regretful in my thought when the year 2017 enters the calendar for it is one of the waking up years of Bitcoin where it become more popular to the world considering the first highest price peak was recorded on the same year despite of the issue with China and other stuffs, that is the same year where bounty campaigns arises bringing lots of opportunities to people. It is just regretful for I did not foresee that the price of it can soar as high as what we are having right now. But still it is a good learning from the past because I learn the importance of it exactly right now.

Back in 2013-2015 when bitcoin were earned by circulation it took on average 150 BTC to make up for 1 BTC per week with dozens of sales per week.

earlier BTC days saw those who had BTC and willing to selling were restaurant, gaming community cashing out and gamblers from satoshi dice that needs to pay rent

Earlier day unlike now see fewer investors and get rich quick seeker like now in IMHO.

Profit margin were small doing circulation on main street, and life were hard.  Long hours worked as barista to earn our keeps and pays our tuition.

with tight AML/KYC rules and restrictive withdraw policy on centralized bitcoin exchange as well as localbitcoins fees are now at least 10-15% for F2F trades.

finding safe new parner to trade is now an issue.

The regret was not having taking on more customer and sold more BTC in the earlier days in exchange for more reliable partner today.

i regret testing oddball wallets back when btc was like $2 USD. send 5 or 10 btc to a test wallet, blow up the test wallet or lose it. in those days it was like pfffftt its only a few btc (worth maybe 10 or 15 bucks back then say) in the wallet, too little money to expend much time or effort into fixing or finding it. so i just basically forgot about them.

wish i had those blown/lost wallets now, i sure as heck would try to recover them these days  Tongue

The years of experience in the crypto industry taught me that no matter what people say, Bitcoin is the king. Accumulate sats because they are the healthiest for your wealth than any altcoin or fiat currency. Personally I don't have regrets because I know they taught me precious lessons that would have costed more time and hassle later in life.
