Hello everyone,

I have an online store and would like to offer Bitcoin as a payment method in my store.

Now my question: Does anyone have any experience with this and can they recommend some kind of guideline or approach?

Which payment service providers/processors in Germany or Austria can you recommend to me? Or is there a possibility to avoid them?

Thanks a lot!

Best regards!

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

You can put your BTC address, in the payment list, or even convert it to a QR code, in your website you can simply add the option to pay bitcoin includes the BTC address, or ask the one who makes your site to make something to integrate, depends on how you like it hopes this helps

You can also use a payment gateway such as https://btcpayserver.org. There are other alternatives but some of them are centralized, which charges you a high commission fee and so on. Take a look and see which one is suitable for your needs. If you just need to receive Bitcoin with full control over it then BTCPay Server might be good enough for you.

Recently base on my experience they are using QR Code or they give the bitcoin address to you (not manually type they send it to you and all you need is to copy and paste), it's like the same with the P2P transaction, or else you can use the Paypal because recently they made an update in terms of bitcoin transfer and adaptation. Right now this is the good option I'm seeing, wait for the other member's suggestion to so you have now more ideas.

I would also recommend considering what joniboini mentioned but if you don't mind paying a 1% fee, you might want to give "Blockonomics" a try.
- For a detailed list, you can refer to "this".

Just a heads up, you always need to hire a developer to implement a payment gateway on your website which will always cost you, not unless if you know someone irl to make it for you.
But if you're running your website on WordPress, jomla, prestashop, magneto then I guess its easy since what you need is only the account api, xpub/ypub/zpub using blockonomics. I'm sure other gateways have plugins too in these sites. But if you're gonna implement using btcserver self-hosted, I guess that's a different thing, you need a developer to work on it. But good thing they have plugins for magento, drupal and prestashop, also you can connect it to shopify as well.

You can definitely avoid them if you want to.
But this automatically means that you'll need to invest more work into it. It's still doable tho.

You can either use a full node and build everything "from scratch". A few scripts and a database would be what you'll need. Or you can use electrum which offers some nice options while still avoiding payment processors and staying decentralized.

And the easiest way is to use a payment processor. This way, you'll have the least amount of work but you'll be dependent on a 3rd party to accept the payments for you and forward them to you.

Your first step should be to decide what exactly you want to achieve. Afterwards, if its going to get more concrete, we are able to help you more precisely.

Take advantage of the commerce.coinbase.com platform to offer bitcoin as a payment method in your store. it will be more efficient and help you in managing payments with bitcoin or other preferred coin.

Commerce.coinbase has also been integrated with Woo Commerce and Shopify.

Some of the advantages of using Commerce.coinbase:

The aspect of accepting bitcoin as a means of payment is a good and logical idea it’s depends on how smart and accessible you’re to your wallet because definitely your customers/client will pay using your bitcoin wallet address.  In these case all you need to do is to create the awareness that your store accepts bitcoin and You don’t expect everyone to be knowledgeable about bitcoin so you have the stress of educating them about bitcoin.

Imagine educating a client/ customer that doesn’t appreciate or interested about bitcoin, convincing such person about using bitcoin to make payment because you have already implemented it. Yeah there are lots of bitcoin enthusiasts who will joyfully embrace such platform but I would advise your online store have other means of payment and not limited to bitcoin alone.

There are many third party applications available for this purpose. If you cannot develop your inhouse payment method, you can use these payment gateways to get the money from your customers.
I have paid on https://coingate.com/ when i shop online on few sites, so i guess this is a good option. You can check their site for more details.

You might wanna check Coinbase as a payment gateway. They’re the most commonly used payment gateway as of today. But first, kindly check if they allow bank accounts or credit cards coming from Germany or Austria to withdraw your Bitcoin to fiat money.

I made this list Bitcoin Payment Processors
The topic is a list of all Self-Hosted Bitcoin Payment Processors, Hosted Payment Processors, and open source methods with a brief mention of the pros, cons and how you can use these applications to get better performance.

You can start by comparing what you need according to what is on the table and then choosing the best one.

I print my QR and posted it in my store as well in my online shop, though it not many uses it but it's a good thing to add in the list so if it happens someone will buy I just note that I also accept cryptocurrency/bitcoin as payment. Others ask but still intend to do mobile banking transfers, but for international transactions crypto payment is really a good option for online sellers for fast and less hassle currency conversion.

That's not how it works for a shop.

You can't just use the same address for every customer. You need to generate addresses when needed (or have them pre-genereated ready to use).
The only proper way to associate a specific customer to a transaction is by using addresses only once.

While your approach might work for some donations etc., it does not work a shop with more than 1 item(s) sold per day.

I think if you implement PayPal as payment method or as one of your payment method. Playpal accepts btc now. So it will be easy for users to choose within PayPal payment methods

Indeed. Since PayPal's network is now accepting cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, and Litecoin, it will now be easy for everybody else to buy and send bitcoin as a payment method. If you would like to accept bitcoin as a payment method, you could easily show your QR code or let them copy your BTC address wallet for them to complete their transaction.

It's not true, you cannot be transfering Bitcoin to other accounts such as your wallet, exchange and etc. you only can hold your crypto into your paypal account

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/cryptocurrencies-tnc

Quote
You currently are NOT able to send Crypto Assets to family or friends, use Crypto Assets to pay for goods or services, or withdraw Crypto Assets from your Cryptocurrencies Hub to an external cryptocurrency wallet. If you want to withdraw the value from your Cryptocurrencies Hub you will need to sell your Crypto Assets and withdraw the cash proceeds from their sale.

so you doesn't own your bitcoin if using paypal.

you have a bad idea.

PayPal wont help OP in this situation. First of all, OP is probably from Austria or Germany. Only US based PayPal users can purchase Bitcoin and other crypto through Paypal. Not to mention he will have to pay huge fees and isn't even in possession of his crypto. It's a custodial service and the coins aren't withdrawable.

Except PayPal isn't allowing any transactions. You can just hold. Which is great for investments, but crappy for people wanting to actually use their Bitcoin. The only think PayPal could remotely do is serve as a "gateway drug."

I would also recommend considering what joniboini mentioned but if you don't mind paying a 1% fee, you might want to give "Blockonomics" a try.
- For a detailed list, you can refer to "this".

I echo this. Blockonomics is a pretty good service.
