Well, it is a simply bitcoin driven market and that is it, there is really nothing that much to say about anything else. To simply put, bitcoin dominance shows that bitcoin worths around 65% of the crypto market, which means when you take a look at crypto market as 100%, bitcoin worths 65% of it and ALL OTHER CRYPTOS worth 35% combined.

This is basically explaining why the top ten has so much difference but it also shows that it is not just top ten, it is ALL cryptos combined worth less than bitcoin. Bitcoin can't be replaced by any altcoin at any point.This is my own review with my knowledge.It may be differ to all with their knowledge.Even yearn.finance price is above Ethereum ,but ethereum had take second place and yearn.finance after the Eos because of the investors intrests.

It's a valid point.Because now the crypto currency was purely based on the bitcoin.The bitcoin price,bitcoin flow in the market make a impact on the other altcoin in the market.When the price of bitcoin increase,it will lead to increase in altcoin price most of the time.Only few times,it takes some time for altcoin.

i can't understand what did you mean by can altcoin ever catch up with bitcoin, can you make it clear buddy
because if we talk about price i see few altcoins that have higher price than bitcoin buddy, but not in marketcap because bitcoin will always become the leader in coinmarketcap

For the long investment like 10 years, I will chose the bitcoin and not any altcoin including Ethereum. Because now Ethereum going to replaced by Eth 2.0.But bitcoin will remain a promising project over 10+ years. So Bitcoin will be my opinion, if you ask me.

Market cap, usability, choice of the people. Bitcoin is at the top because it has all of it, I mean all of the positive thing that a cryptocurrency should have.
While the other altcoins, they also have it but it's bitcoin that is the choice of the majority and made its marketcap at the top.

Of course, total supply and real use cases are completely different. I don't see a reason to compare the altcoins and BTC, maybe in the future top 10 altcoins will be replaced by the other projects but it is too early to talk about these possible changes. Time will tell which altcoins have a better potential to replace the top ones but BTC is still unbeatable among all cryptocurrencies. Choosing from the top altcoins is not risky but the reward will be small compared the investing in the small altcoins which can give an x500 or x2000 ROI after the few years.

The thing that causes it to happen might be the usability, mechanism, consensus, funtionality and various things. I this case i will take the hype as the main thing that creates a big gap between any altcoins.
The technical things like total supply consensus mechanism were also giving a huge impact to the gap between the price of altcoins.

The gap between bitcoin and altcoins is obvious, altcoins don't need try to catch up and they never catch up. Bitcoin has always been primary, altcoins are secondary, most importantly history and people's trust in bitcoin, altcoins can't be compared (Bitcoin is the first coin).

If you talking about big gap in $ (price in dollar) then it's because so many factor mainly total circulating coin and demands. When we're talking about gap here it should be the market capitalization since it's vital aspect to consider not the price of a coin.

There's many altcoins that has higher price than bitcoin in the past but they usually have very low circulating coin and it's about few thousands which also means small market cap.

However, if what you mean is market cap it's just normal since market cap of bitcoin correlate with its dominance in the market and bitcoin is the first crypto like ever and considered equal to gold.

Seems like you're new in here that's why questions like this comes from you but remember that Bitcoin as a Pioneer cryptocurrency and has proven the ability and capacity to grow and grow year after year.
Though there are some chances that in specific year the value don't go up instead falls down in same reason that this market is volatile and changing its way from time to time.

It is classified as one of the most successful crypto as it had quite some history there
Bitcoin is proven that people are trusting the Blockchain itself despite it had no CEO, no Boss, Nothing backed
Because it takes a very long time to built up the entire ecosystem

Unlike other alts, where it is either done through ICO, or mining(Copy what Bitcoin did)
These actually caused conflict of interest
e.g. You as a boss of Coin ABC, you crowdfunding a huge source of money
3 years pass and you realised that the coin itself is not sustainable
Are you going to spent all the money back to the ecosystem or you just wanted to make money?
That's the problem
Blockchain should be decentralized, but if the coin backed by certain boss/institutions that are seeking for profit making
The coin itself might not fully achieve what Crypto should be

There was a time back in the day when ETH almost, came within a few %'s of reaching and exceeding BTCs market cap however it quickly reversed. I think this was when the mining pools finally decided to launch Segwit since scaling was a huge issue and ETH was the competition. So once Segwit was flagged as a day quickly the market caps widened again and hasn't came this close ever since. I don't think there will be a time when another crypto ever comes this close to beating BTC market cap.

So its certainly possible for ETH or some other alt-coin to beat BTC market cap however it would be extremely rare. We got Segwit now, so we got LN for scaling which isn't a threat anymore like in 2016. And the network security is very important. Look what happened with ETC and how many times they got 51% attacked. Hence why many prefer bitcoin since it has a huge hashrate behind it.

Maybe that is because bitcoin was the first coin launched and many people believe that bitcoin can be the new option in the payment system. And with the price that has a big gap among the other coin, people are interested in having bitcoin as a long term investment than the altcoin. That is because the altcoin will be behind bitcoin. The price will fluctuate as follows with the bitcoin price. But maybe we have a different point of view about bitcoin and altcoin.
