"Tencent have been supporting ShareRing to make a mini app for the WeChat software, so basically moving some of the ShareRing ecosystem over to WeChat, we're working with Tencent on a number of sales opportunities in Thailand and a number of other places as well. We have regular weekly/ Bi weekly calls with the team at TenCent, we've developed a very strong relationship with them"

The news was covered in Forbes Thailand and South China Morning Post so far.
What do you think about this? Good step for mainstream adoption?

That partnership and development is inevitable. Tencent is into it and developing is their specialty.

They'll use blockchain for the development and that's another great use for the technology. Whoever follows them and still doubts blockchain will realize that this tech giant is using it for the good purpose.

I hope that it's for business usage and no coin will be generated.

It is just a small adoption but it is still a good news for a the crypto world. Tecent is a big company which develops techonlogies for many years. If they deicde to to jump in this field, definitely it is an awesome move. Maybe they have seen the benefits in Sharering. The advantages of blockchain is undoubtedly

I think they will only generate a stablecoin for the public. The SHR coin will be used for governance and to sustain the network.
The electronic identity is just one side of it but there will be multiple use cases for the app. Basically anything for sharing: home rentals, car rentals etc.

I still have to do more research into the tokeonomics.

The move is not surprising and many more deals even bigger than that are bound to happen in the near future. Just like when the news broke on October 21, 2020 of PayPal jumping into the crypto industry, I know many more big players in the financial system will soon join in the adoption. Tencent is a very big player in China, just as big as PayPal. It wouldn't want to miss the opportunity that this industry is opening to the world. It's an interesting time we're witnessing in this ecosystem.

They have a good market over there and not much competition.
The only thing holding them back globally is the western culture that labels Tencent (for example) as communist and therefore an enemy.
But with only the market over there Sharering can be a top coin, did not stop NEO or Tron.

Of course. Tencent is a very well known company throughout the world. If a big company like this starts going on board in Blockchain, that means Blockchain really is getting more competition for the big companies. There will be a race to see who's the first to utilize the potential of Blockchain in our ecosystem.

I have no idea about ShareRing but it must be a very good project that one of the biggest tech company in China partnered with it. Their aim however can be a bit intimidating after reading its all about "new digital identification system". Did anyone also picture it in their minds that this company will monitor everyone?   Its too early to say though.

Tencent already an established company in China holding most of the popular social media and payment platforms partnering with ShareRing Blockchain. The all in one application getting developed under the partnership providing from travel will provide convenience and take digital platforms more effective through blockchain integration. More and more number of applications for the same is being developed, but this leads the track as the largest networks had partnered.

Isn't tencent a Chinese company that has been accused of stealing/illegal collection of user data and selling them? I have also heard that they were spying on their Chinese users, by injecting with trackers and everything.
But, anyway good thing they are trying to implement the blockchain system on their current applications.

What do you think about this? Good step for mainstream adoption?

Good step for mainstream adoption of blockchain. Though this does not automatically make cryptocurrency adoption mainstream.

I think it is now becoming clearer that in one way or the other, existing platform will have to partner with crypto platforms or look for ways to leverage any cryptocurrencies which suits their goals for platform enhancing and better services for users, PayPal is taking such steps and now Tencent is on the verge of doing theirs. In my own opinion, I see it as a good move towards mainstream adoption because in one way or the other, both platforms will be able to achieve their aims. Also, taking into account the favourable nature of the market now, coupled with the fact people are getting more involved since the past few weeks, we are likely to see more positive partnerships because none will want to lose out.

What they mean to do is use their system with regulation from Thailand. Basically verifying your details online through the app and skipping the queue at the border. They call it Electronic visa on arrival.
EU already has electronic passports, I have one, but it still kinda looks like a usual one.

Bottom line, I am not very worried about puting my details on the blockchain as long as it's private and can be accessed only with a signature from me. Online or offline, they will still know in which country you are in.

Not to mention that we all uploaded our documents to Binance or Coinbase at some point to verify our accounts. This will be similar but once you do it once, you can use it for other purposes like renting a car or hotel room.
