Wanted to share with the collectable community an idea I am using for hologram placement.

Hope it helps current coin makers and future ones as well.

I am currently working on a collectable project and of course with it comes placing a hologram on top of the private key.

Initially I was just peeling with fingers and placing on top of private key area, but that left blemishes on the holo such as fingerprints and was not that accurate as it should be.

I asked around,  MinerJones and Anonminer suggested the peel and place method, which works great and also prevents any blemishes from fingertips.

In the meanwhile I had been looking up another way, either something a bit tacky to grab the holo or a small vacuum pump pen..all this without damaging the hologram.

I went searching for the vacuum and came across this SMD vacuum pen..problem was the vacuum is finger pumped once...it does the job but yet sometimes vacuum was lost and holo fell off.

So I looked for something similar within the same price range....but didn't feel like paying what I found as I knew there had to be cheaper vacs.

That being said, I looked under black head removals as I know vacuum is used to do the job.

I came across a nice cheap small held vacuum on amazon. It comes into two different speeds and works perfectly.

Following is a video of the vacuum in action. I used stickers instead as I do not want to reveal my product just yet.

Ok...as promised I have come up with an even more precise way on applying holograms..especially for those with shaky hands!

I introduce the Krogoth Holomatic... Wink

You can watch the video of it in action!>>>>  https://imgur.com/a/sz3OetD

I have labeled each component, where you can buy and explained as follows...

 A) Toggle Clamp 90 Degree

 B) Hose Clamp

 C) YaeTek Lab Stands Support and Lab Clamp Flask Clamp Condenser Clamp Stands 60CM

 D) Pneumatic Air line 1/4" Od

 E) Copper Brake Line Hose Tubing Kit 1/4"

 F) Blackhead Remover Pore Vacuum

 G) 1" suction cup

 H) Permatex 84109 PermaPoxy 4 Minute Multi-Metal Epoxy, 0.84 oz.

If the vacuum is too great for your hologram, you can always install a small1/4" Hose Barb 3-Way Valve in the airline and bleed some air IN to regulate the amount of suction.

You do not have to buy from the sites I have shown you, as I have not. These are given as reference in case you need more information.

Once you place the holo on top you can either press down with your other hand or simply turn vacuum off and the hologram will disconnect from the tip..if not then simply use a finger to disconnect.

This is not just for coin makers, but some precise art-making could use This trick. I think about how much pressure could the hologram take? Depending on the type of material you are going to put, it's challenging to hold it too much? It might damage the hologram.

Anyway, adjustable pressure and tip would be ideal for all types of crafts. Thanks for sharing this. I might use this in some of my projects.

Excited to see what you are working on Shocked

It came with different tip sizes...and yes adjustable vac speeds

Edit...you can probably attach your own..

Example...buy a rubber suction cup...drill a hole in the middle...attach to the tip and voila...a larger surface area and stronger arrachment as well...also soft rubber instead of plastic..

I use fine dental picks... to place my scratch offs and holograms

While I imagine you have your techniques down, I would discourage any users from using tools that may potentially damage the hologram even if you cannot see it with normal sight.

agreed the the super fine ones I have are very precise and contact is easily held without much pressure but I don't always get the rotation 100% spot on, I think the vac idea might make that easier.

Its almost complete....

The fine dental pick is used to lift the hologram off the master hologram sheet.

It barely is in contact with the holograms stickyness . It allows me to place the hologram within the preprinted placement area.

The picks keep fingerprints away... and was the most efficient way to place one hundred holograms per series.

My scratch offs are on a roll.  They are just rolled off the paper by exposing the end of the scratch offs bottom. Align to the paper and just peel the paper from scratch off as it is stuck at the same time..    I could place 3 -4 a minute with the 5000 bit savings bond certs I made.

Rolling the holograms off the paper was not an option...

My holograms are rectangle.... I get what you mean by rotation tho.

Maybe do a couple test runs, say 10 coins, place the holograms using this method and then send them to teeGUMES for the Canary microscope treatment?

This is the method I use and it works well for me. One small difference is that I stick the key to the hologram then the holo+key to the coin, Mike has the key on the coin then attaches both at the same time.

We encountered the same problem when trying to move holograms on to our paper/polymer.

Currently our solution is to cut the hologram 10x10 sheets into strips (containing 5-10 individual holograms in a row) and we use the individual strips to push the holo sticker directly over where we need it to go. Think of it like a conveyor belt. The sticker half "floats" in the air until it hits the paper/alu.

This has increased accuracy immensely and reduced any blemishes.

One more idea I would like to place out there...

Would like to find something similar to this press....cheaper and in plastic if possible. I would velcro the moving rod and velcro the vacuum pen. Once i have holo on pen or device...attach to movable rod...place coin under and slowly lower the rod along with pen until holo makes contact with coin. This will stop any type of shift at the  last second as holo meets coin...and trust me..it happens.

Even this juicer can be modified as well

Having tried to put holograms on it is very frustrating so thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

Just bought the Plunger-Stroke-Push-Pull-Clamp...I will build it up to use with the vacuum pen and hopefully make a video of it once it arrives and I have the time.  Wink
