Yeah a lot of fake faucets are a bit like this now. It's also true with the fake minions sites you see where they give you some "virtual mining power" and you get 0.015btc or something for depositing 0.01 btc and buying more power to earn with...

You may as well test you can withdraw funds from a faucet as soon as you possibly can even if they offer incentives like interest or other things. At least if you've already pulled out a few dollars you have something to show for your time.

I'm sure a lot of smaller faucets went bust after the bull run, running out of funds to pay users as the faucet money became more valuable.

You should only be using freebitco.in, if you really, really still want to use faucets, but even BTCGOSU notes in their article about faucets that its faucet is also a waste of time. And then you have the hundreds of faucet farmers who gave up after earning 300 sats from any faucet with this method, as a confirmation of this.

I started my crypto journey with faucets because I had no single penny to invest on crypto at the time, I was able to make some satoshis, litecoin and Bitcoincash and I was able to sell for good money in 2017 bullrun, faucets was a thing in 2015-2016, rewards are higher in every claims but today it's not worth it anymore, if any faucet ask for deposit it's complete scam, faucets are 100% free just like Airdrops, the most trusted faucet is freebitco.in

There are a lot of faucet which sets a limit threshold and when the user achieve it they require them to deposit some amount to activate the withdrawal feature and this kind of method of some faucet is so scam and I remember that there are so many newbie got victimize from this before so best for new user to research and don't trust on any platform who ask deposits especially on free things and giveaways.

Sounds like crypto doubling faucets are back, it's been a long time I see a running faucet like that, I think that's in 2017 days 🤔, only greedy people will end up trusting such platforms, faucets are suppose to be completely free, faucets make their money through adverts and banners so while you are claiming the tokens and skipping ads they are making their money too

From a historical perspective, it’s interesting to read this thread, started by @Gavin Andresen back in 2010, who ran one of the first Bitcoin Faucets (if not the first): Who's the Spanish jerk draining the Faucet?. Even Satoshi chimed-in on the thread.

People on the forum would donate to the BTC faucet (i.e. @BitcoinFX, @ knightmb and Gavin I presume amongst others). The reported abuser would play around with changes in his IPs, in order to drain the Faucet. The idea of a pseudo-KYC for suspicious accounts (through SMS) was thrown around as one of the possible countermeasures (not sure if it got implemented though).

Back then, they were giving away 5 BTCs per captcha solved (delimited by ip and BTC address it seems), with BTC having gone up from 0.005 $ to 0.06 $ shortly before the reported issue.

Lessons from history …

Really? 5 BTCs per captcha? It's amazing. Curious to see the man who claimed that time and still holding it.  Smiley

Wow qoinpro, I have registered there since like 10 years and it has not even accumulated 0.0005 BTC which is most exchanges withdrawal fees.
LOl. Really you have registered 10 years ago or just doing fun? If you really had aware of the faucet 10 years ago then maybe you also know about those faucets which were paying 5BTCs per captcha solved?  Grin

The scheme that someone asks for a deposit so that the user can make a withdrawal goes beyond faucets, this is an old trick that is mainly used on fake crypto exchanges. I’ve always been a fan of those faucets that pay directly to the microwallets as they have been in the past sites like FaucetBox or FaucetHub (both don’t work anymore). This way of collecting coins allowed you not to waste time on empty faucets or those that forge payments (payment is visible immediately), and to avoid dust on-chain transactions using a microwallet.

In other words, don't fall for the scam type that someone is asking you to make a deposit as a kind of verification - it's more than enough warning that the thing is not legitimate.

What many misinterpret is that today's faucets do not pay as they used to - but they actually pay similar amounts in fiat, and given the price of cryptocurrencies, the amount in crypto is of course far smaller. People are always weak on numbers, so they don't realize that 200k satoshi back in 2015/16 is worth about $0.20, and today for that same fiat amount you only need a little more than 1000 satoshi.

I probably exaggerated there but yeah I'm registered there for 6-7 years when BTC was $150 or so, I did do some faucets then but sold it

Nowadays, crypto faucets have a time-consuming process to earn in which you can barely receive decent pay. At a first glance, you may think that faucets are pretty simple, convenient, and profitable. However, some of it never payout for the completed task. It’s hard to understand people depositing money for a faucet when it supposed to be the reward for their time and effort. Thus, it is better to find an alternative way to earn than do faucets, though some of it is legitimate, you need to be very careful in choosing it.

Many crypto faucets are now existing because of the pumping of bitcoin's value, they are grabbing this opportunity to fool other people because they know that people are now getting more focused on cryptocurrency and many newbies are now entering the world of cryptocurrency, those beginners would be the victims of those fake faucets, offering a good amount of return when you deposit only a few amounts of money(cryptocurrency). I've already been scammed by this kind of faucet way back when I was new in the world of crypto, thinking that I could earn easily in crypto once I tried that fake website(Crypto-pandemic) that I have encountered before, it seems like beginners would easily fall for those traps.

Well, we cannot help those newbies to avoid those kinds of scams unless they are a member of this forum that will help them to be careful with those kinds of scams.

Both airdrops and crypto faucets are suppose to be completely free, you don't have to be told that asking you to make any form of deposit shows that scammers are at work unless you are so stupid enough to trust such move, I was into faucets and Airdrops, that was how I made my first 20$ in crypto space years ago, right now it doesn't count anymore

Never deposit any coins to faucets, never trust them, and don't expect to earn coins from faucets.
It is a classic scam: Deposit first and get something back.

They can abuse events like giveaways, promotions, faucets but please think twice that if it is giveway or faucet, you would get something free from the air, from the company runs the event. It is a process would be but if the company ask you to make deposit first to have a legit ticket to join giveway or faucet, it is scam.

Giveaway or faucet is the thing you can claim for free. Faucet: free claim (that can be restricted by minutes, hours, total claims everyday). Giveway: free but sometimes yo have to finish some tasks like answer questions, puzzles, etc.

This is a very popular trick and I don't expect anyone to fall for such, faucets are completely free just like airdrops, you get paid for some few clicks and the faucet manager make back his money through adverts and banners, this explains why so many faucet websites has many ads displaying on them and to get a proper click you have to watch and skip the ads, asking for deposits is scam

It's clear if there is a faucet that asks to deposit to get something then I'm sure it's not legitimate because it's never been asked to make any deposits it's just that it takes longer to be able to make a withdrawal so it's clear if there's something with the deposit then don't follow that obviously the faucet now is not a good thing it just takes a long time while the results are not there we are just tired of claiming it while the time is wasted.

There are few legitimate Crypto Faucet websites for earning very small amounts of crypto, but watch out for many scams asking you to pay or deposit anything.
One of them is in this forum QoinPro.com - Free BTC, DOGE, LTC, FTC, VTA every 24 hours automatically
People did their tasks, but they received nothing after they requested withdrawals, and website was not working at all.

Never deposit any coins to faucets, never trust them, and don't expect to earn coins from faucets.

Faucets are really popular back in the day and somehow could profitable claiming every time it's available and I guess most of the people do not really recommend this as a thing in crypto since it might just be a waste of time.

Most of the gambling websites have these Crypto Faucets and a needed deposit could just be normal to activate your account in a gambling website or exchange.

But I guess you don't really need to take the risk depositing in this kind of website since there is a high chance that this could be a scam, if the faucet is just what you want no need to deposit funds in the website at all.

False. There are reputable bitcoin faucets. The best of which is freebitco.in. They've been around for 5+ years and are the only faucet I know that pays interest on your balance. Yeah...you won't earn much from any faucet. Faucets pay dust these days, but there aren't many bitcoin wallets that pay interest, and that's what this organization does.

Freebitco.in pays 4% annual interest on balances over 60,000 satoshis. Best of all, they pay daily, so your interest is compounded daily. They also offer the other typical wagering and gambling options that most faucet sites offer. This group has been reliable for years, always pays out when you need your coin, and is quick to respond to issues if you encounter one.

PM me if you want more details.

Okay buddy, thanks for the heads-up on this matter. I have known about Faucets from a very long time now and from my experience in the pass i will confidently agree that participating in Faucets is completely not worth it as one will eventually realized they're just wasting their time plus they might end up getting scammed. just  as a lot of users have pointed out in this thread, what push people to consider earning from faucets is purely greediness.
