Hi and thank you for taking the time to read my post.
I have some bitcoin from a few years ago and if i type the wallet address into blockchain.com I can see the wallet balance.
I have the private key stored away but my understanding is i also need a public key ?

The only information i have is the wallet address and the private key.
I have no idea were i purchased the bitcoin from or how its stored.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thank you

The private key is all you need, you can derive the Bitcoin address (and public key) from there if needed.

Short answer: on the blockchain Smiley The private key is enough to move funds, but before you do (assuming you want to sell them), make sure you know what you're doing.
Importing the private key into Electrum is probably the easiest. Depending the amount of Bitcoin you're looking at, you may want to take additional security measures.

A massive thank you for your help.
I downloaded Electrum and found the wallet (in view mode) then created another wallet(that was not view only) that i could move bitcoin from.

I did not want to go through the hassle of opening an account using photo id bank account ect to withdraw to so i used an online gift card company here in the uk that had good reviews and purchased cards with Amazon ect.

Thanks again.  Smiley
