How was Black Friday in your country this year?
I think most people will spend a similar or maybe a little less money than in previous years, especially in those countries where lockdown is in effect - and yet people spend a lot more when shopping in physical stores where they can see and try goods before buying. According to data from some surveys, Americans will spend about
$148.5 billion on Black Friday and Black Monday this year, which is an increase compared to last year of $285 million.
I did not find data on how much EU citizens will spend this year in BF, but this is the time when they will certainly spend the most money in the year, considering that now most things can be bought at the biggest discounts.
In any case, covid 19 devastated the general economy, Black Friday or any sale event is no longer important. The biggest concern of the people now is to save money to buy stored food before the second outbreak of Covid 19.
It all depends on which countries we are talking about, because no matter how the purchase is made, it generates the payment of taxes through VAT, which is good for the state treasury and of course for those who produce goods. If there was no online stores, things would be much worse - and yet people still have the opportunity to buy something and keep the economy alive.
