It will be difficult to be honest, we can't do this on a country or nation scale. This idea in my opinion is a experimental economy. Like how they are creating Special Economic Zone where they practice these kinds of ideas like Universal Basic Income. It should pass in test phase to see its viability but right now, I think the chances is still slim to none.

I really don't know if you are aware that, Japan is set to begin recognizing bitcoin as a legal method of payment starting tomorrow., this news is April 2017, or Bitcoin To Become ‘Just Like Money’ In Australia July 1 - July of 2017.

It may possible but its difficult and for sure we were going to wait for long time for a free land for bitcoin. We all know that even bitcoin or cryptocurrency were now attracting more investors but yet the some government of nation didn't considered yet the existence of bitcoin. What some nation do was they made their own digital currency that they will going to used inside in there respective countries which i didn't know if it have a negative effect to bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a free land everywhere.

The truth is you cannot regulate Bitcoin. It's censorship-free money.

It doesn't really matter what governments do at the end of the day.

They can make every law under the sun.

Reality is, as long as a person has access to the internet, they can use Bitcoin.

Bitcoin breaks the monopoly on money; this is good for the people.

The privacy implementations will only improve - Taproot, Schnorr, CoinJoin, Lightning etc

I'm betting open-source code beats government surveillance; they're playing a losing battle.

Once a Bitcoin-only-economy forms outside of government control, there's no stopping it.

I think it's just a matter of time before the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency was going to accepted in a country or maybe a right law or implementation would help us with that.
I remember this topic https://www.thelocal.se/20070112/6076 wherein The Pirate Bay plans to buy an island.

Remove the Government and we wouldn't have problems now, would we? Kidding aside, Bitcoin, in general, isn't really a controllable asset, countries may ban it as they like but they can't stop people from using it, especially with how it doesn't even give a peep of who you are (as long as you don't give away your info like an idiot that is). Give it some time, countries would give up sooner or later in banning it since they're just basically wasting their effort in trying to do so.

And on that note, we don't really need an island, nor do we need countries to acknowledge Bitcoin is legal. It exists because it exists, that's basically it. It's inevitable, just like how arguing with a rock would produce nothing.

Not for now, bitcoin maybe accepted by the community but probably not by the government. This is the current status of bitcoin for now. Many people do use it already and others are still exploring but the government did not support any of these in fact other countries are banning digital currency especially the ICO projects. However, they are limiting the community to get involve in bitcoin and other establish altcoins as well. Might an indicator that we are heading towards full adaptation. Well, it all depend on how strong bitcoin will be and sustainable in the long run. For now, bitcoin is doing well and this has been my observation. Hopefully it will going to prosper over a period of time.

We should be thankful for the other country who recognized bitcoin even they did not accept the bitcoin legally to their country.

Even they did not accept bitcoin it's okay because many people are still believe to the bitcoin and what more if each country will accept bitcoin legally expect the value will rise more because there is a lot of people will buy bitcoin and trust.

I remember a story of such a thing was made up several years ago by cointelegraph about an african rapper called akon.
They were talking about creating a city running only on a cryptocurrency
And just last week I hear of talks he was speaking of it coming into it's own and it is ready to launch if it hasn't already at the beginning of next year.

Bitcoin is a free land everywhere.
The truth is you cannot regulate Bitcoin. It's censorship-free money.

government cannot regulate bitcoin blockchain. but it can regulate the off-ramps back and forth between fiat.
EG make laws to prevent retailers accepting anything but fiat
EG make laws to prevent 'money services' from offering exchange/custodial services

thus they can regulate bitcoin into the dark market/boiler room/basement trader economy.

..
over the last decade many 'projects'/ICO tried to promote schemes whereby they hoped for investment to make 'freelands' where the currency of that land was purely bitcoin. but in the end it just turned out as money grabbing greed attempts

bitcoin should not be thought of as something people want as the 'new world order single currency' but instead keep fiat as the national currency that can take on all the crap debt. while separetly allow free flow of asset/wealth holding in bitcoin

EG Fiat is your credit card debt and bitcoin is your savings account.
keeping them separate so you can write off/dissolve/bankrupt your fiat account without it intruding into your savings account

EG if US retailers were allowed to accept canadian dollars aswell as american dollars. people can set up a canadian account for savings and an american account for their credit/debt/mortgages. and if they got caught short with american repayments they can bankrupt their american identity and american cant then try to syphon off funds from the canadian account as its not their jurisdiction. .. in simplistic analogy.
after all thats how corporations get away with tax/debt.
..

if a 'freeland' was pure bitcoin. then the economy would be forced into also having to have methods of measuring 'minus bitcoin'(debt) and have processes to then reclaim that debt. thus ruining bitcoins whole purpose/function

so lets just be happy for open choice and not 'one world currency' situation

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

This might be possible in a ship on international waters. I don't think that any government will ever accept Bitcoin without taxation or restrictions. Taxation is also important for the infrastructure of each country.
I'm not totally against regulations as they have importance, I am against a blanket ban of Bitcoin.

I don't think it will happen with a country that has an official currency. But how about taking a look at Akon's dream land? He has his own native token there but bitcoin would be much appreciated there.

What you will do if Bitcoin is totally legal in your country?

Even though you live in country that banning Bitcoin, it doesn't mean you can't buy it. You can buy Bitcoin in DEXs, using VPN and Tor to make you untraceable. After that, you can sell or play around with that... so you don't need to wait until your country legally accept Bitcoin. Bitcoin is decentralized and any people can have it if they want.

Let's not resort to looking for an Atlantis for the sake of Bitcoin becoming totally legal. Bitcoin is one hell of a currency even if the governments will not make it totally legal. It does not ask for the complete approval of any government for it to become a perfect currency. In its current form and despite the resistance of a lot of countries, it remains the best currency ever. There is no reason to hope for a utopia in this kind of dog eat dog world.

We don't need such fighting for bitcoin. You look at bitcoin and you see a digital acceptance on it. We didn't do any fight for it when Facebook started allowing bitcoin related adds back again, we didn't fight for PayPal adoption but just work up to hear it and the latest is Visa on bitcoin. More will come and bitcoin will keep breaking through by itself.

Yeah? What if they outlaw it?
What if everything will be forced to shut down, ATMs, businesses accepting bitcoins, bank transfers in and from exchanges?
Do you think at 10$ per coin 0.001% of the users here will still be around?
Just think what is driving now the price, it's the same approval you were thinking is not important, it's investors buying bitcoins through grayscale, is PayPal getting a license to allow customers to buy bitcoins.

They can and they have done so, you're simply deluding yourself that by sending 5$ to friends you're escaping government control while in fact the battle was lost years ago...

Yeah, ready to...but since 2018 he has postponed the dates of the completion from 2023 to 2029.

Trust me, this is will be one of the greatest failures of the century, probably outshining Berlin's Airport construction.

Is there any chance that we can find a place like Africa or island in pacific ocean to make bitcoin a totally legal currency?no shit from government.
^ Probably not an easy, since all the government around the globe would always want to have full control on the finances of their citizens. However, the idea is not far from becoming a reality since people are now more engaged with technology and aggressive when it comes to their properties as well as with their free will. Nevertheless, just because of these three and with absolute mass adoption the government couldn't go against this ideology anymore instead they will just adopt it. It will be implementing regulations that would still protect their citizens having bitcoins as another form of currency, probably these could also be the reason why some countries already legalized bitcoin as another method of payment besides it is their duty to protect and serve their nation and not to go against them.

Why do you need a place in Africa or any Island to have your own rules, you can have those rules even in your basement and call it your legal currency and no government will come after you until you do something notorious or anything criminal  Tongue.
I saw similar threads where people want to start their own island to call bitcoin which is foolish in itself which makes me cringe and the part i do not understand is that why can't they make it simple and start using bitcoin Cheesy.

It is very much possible but not easy to execute. We have few examples already and you can Google their story on how these countries were created. These are commonly known as micronations.

1. Principality of Sealand
2. Kailasha
3. Filettino

You can check this wiki page to have complete list of micronations,

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_micronations

However, you may not get acknowledged as a sovereign country by the United Nations. Also if you don't do anything illegal in nature, it's very unlikely to have interference from the government. So if you have funding, go ahead with it!
