I read this somewhere and I have heard someone talk about being scammed in this manner.
Quote
I have been scammed 6 months ago.

Now someone is calling me from BTC REFUND DEPARTMENT. He said that I have under my name the bitcoins that have been scammed. But the way to take this amount is to synchronise my wallet with the address that the amount is under my name. The issue is that he is asking for 10% of the amount to be added in the wallet and send the new bitcoins to blockchain and then after 15 minutes all the funds will be in my wallet.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is this true or is just another scammer?

Please let us take note of this. Bitcoin does not have a refund Department.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I would not really say I'm the best at matters concerning bitcoin and cryptocurrency, but what I really would say is that it is extremely easy to get scammed, by anyone with a good strategy.

And that being the case I really haven't ever heard of such a thing as a Bitcoin refund department. Don't get me wrong it might exist or be legit... "Might" so I will advice you to chill a little, ask questions thoroughly about this matter from true professionals, so as not to get scammed a second time. I have been scammed a bunch of times due to my ignorance, and trust me it really hurts. So be smart, patient and also ask a lot of questions.

In my opinion, the odds of getting scammed with Bitcoin, fiat or any other asset as the means of payment is pretty the same, infact considering how untraceable cash is, it is probably easier to use that than Bitcoin.
Bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general does not facilitate scams as the full responsibility falls on the holder to maintain their security. Such 'give x amount to receive y amount back' type of scams has been used repeatedly overtime and most should have caught up by now.

I would go one further and say it is a scam. Any service that requires you to deposit a certain amount to be able to withdraw is almost certainly a scam.
If they could still contact the user after months, then their personal information was also stolen as well. Another reason not to register on unsafe and non reputable websites.

Nothing like BTC refund department exists. It's actually ridiculous to read such things. "Bitcoin under my name" - LoL. People are just taking advantage of others who aren't very savvy about bitcoin. One of the reason for that is the use of custodial wallets (especially web wallets). These wallets make you think that you are holding bitcoin in your virtual account associated with your name just like PayPal. Such users are easy target for scammers with such schemes.

"Synchronise my wallet with the address that the amount is under my name" - I am pretty sure the scammer will give him the 'Extended Mater Public Key' so that it appears to the user that he is in control of bitcoin and addresses in the wallet but those are just watch-only addresses. Sending any money to those addresses is simply putting money into the pockets of the scammer.

Most novice even use exchange websites as wallet and are convinced that their btc is safe there. What if the exchange is a scam? Then the btc ain't safe.
I know these scammers invent new scam everyday and no one is most wise. We tend to be vulnerable when we want something badly. We should always make enough research when embarking on anything crypto currency related not to fall into the hands of scammers.

I'm actually going to be sad if someone falls for this kind of approach of a scam. Imagine believing that there's a refund department. That's really sad. That goes to show that if you get scammed "AGAIN" with that, then education about it should be done. The people who would fall for this are probably those who don't know anything about Bitcoin or even the slightest background. Come on, and it's decentralized. Further research and education should be done.

They might be the same ones that scammed you. That's why they know you were scammed.  It's the only way.

Bitcoin refund department!!!
There is nothing these scammers won't to fool the vulnerable and greed can make some persons fall into this kind of trap. I can't recall bitcoin being under a name, I only know bitcoin belongs with a wallet address not the username!!!
Another thing is, the scammer is out here talking of refunds mean while, he demands a fee prior to refund of which, the fee is non refundable.
I just hope users don't get too hasty in deciding what way to go and play right in the hands of the these scammers. They've got so much energy and time to invest in lucrative work but still just won't, it feels in appropriate for them.
The quoted user did just the right thing by asking before going further. Nice move.

I somwhat disagree. Bitcoin is mainly a digital currency that is used online. It's a lot easier to scam from behind a computer screen than in real life. True, cash is untraceable, but for someone to forcibly take it away from you, hi must be either stronger or faster than you. Wink

Bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general does not facilitate scams as the full responsibility falls on the holder to maintain their security. Such 'give x amount to receive y amount back' type of scams has been used repeatedly overtime and most should have caught up by now.

I totally agree with that. Bitcoin is just an instrument. Most of the time people fall victim to scams because of their ignorance or greed (or a combination of both).

It is sad that people believe that a decentralized cryptocurrency that doesn't have a centralized institution or a body governing it, has no president, director, or an administration, has a refund department that goes around contacting people who got scammed that there are bitcoin registered in their name waiting to be collected. Do they ever stop to think, where during the process of setting up my wallet did my real name get associated with a BTC address!? Doing KYC at an exchange doesn't count because here it's the official "Bitcoin Company Ltd" and its totally legit "refund department" that is contacting you Huh

These are newbie scammers, else how would an experienced scammer come up with such a ridiculous format. Whoever falls for this will never learn as well. You have already been scammed and the same scammer comes back to milk you for more in a very stupid way. Bitcoin in your name; very funny.

Some people will probably fall for this due to being desperate for recovering their fund

There are many ways that the scammers will do to trick and steal people's money, and that will not stop that way because the scammers will always try to use other ways.
I don't get that experience, but I get a scam in the past when I am a beginner in the crypto world and don't know that.
I don't want to get another experience as before, so I need to make sure that something is right, and if I doubt that is true, I will not do anything, including sending the money to them.
When we lose the money, it will just go like that, and no one will give it back to us.
Do not trust the other people to help you recover your money because they will try to trick you into sending the other money to them.

True their target is those greedy people that want to get easy money. Not a new scheme we have this already years before they are using remittances to claim the asked money and saying that they need help in exhcnage for the help they will give you lot of money . But things change they are now using new technology to find victim ,but they use the same startegy .with so many victims, most of the people already have idea how this things work  and it's easy  to know if it's a scam. if you are not sure to what you are doing  you can askit to other you know before trusting your  money or search for it first .

With such claims, any uneducated person regarding cryptocurrency has a high-vulnerability to be convinced. It may somehow increase their hope that they can probably recover what they have lost, especially those emotionally driven by their funds. Sadly, they don’t have any idea that their mistakes are being used against them. Unfortunately, it is just a form of manipulation as the defrauder is luring the victim to deposit in order to acquire the swindled bitcoin. Thus, learn to verify before making any deposit.

Just keep in mind that if you going to any Btc Refund Department after a victim of any scam then You have to think that you are walking to be another victim of a scam. They are just fraud and they only target the innocent people who are regretting after losing their fund. They just want to make you helpless and proletariat. So be aware of them and learn from previous mistake.

True their target is those greedy people that want to get easy money.

I wouldn't call a guy that has lost his money greedy when it comes to trying to recover his funds, nor are those "easy" money this was HIS money that he got robbed or scammed out of.

These are newbie scammers, else how would an experienced scammer come up with such a ridiculous format.

Not newbie and not a new trend and you would be amazed how many people would fall for it, put yourself first in the victim shoes, having lost some money that might make the difference between paying your rent or buying food and getting a loan to be able to do so and think how attractive it might sound to recover even half of it.
It's been years since all the topics in trustpilot of exchanges that went down or Ponzi schemes or all other scams are invaded by bots claiming x and y and z company was able to recover their funds.

Yeah I agree, and that's the saddest part of this story. Scammers target victims because they are the most vulnerable. Besides having fallen for the scam once many of them have lost more than they can afford to lose and are therefore an easy target. Unfortunately, some of them will take another reckless step in the hope of recovering at least part of the missing funds that will cause them an even greater loss. This is similar to when gamers deposit increasing amounts to recover what they've lost and thus enter a vicious circle with no way out.

This is an old tactic and I wouldn’t say these are newbie scammers because they make very good use of psychology and abuse the emotional state of people who have lost something valuable. The only thing we can do is report such cases in the hope that at least some of the potential victims will be saved.

I am happy to share my bad experience to invest in hyip website and Bitcoin Doubler, I got scam 1000$.
All hyip websites are scam projects and there is no department to catch these scammers.

In my opinion, someone he knows may have done this he may know that he has bitcoin and if he is a little scared he may get some bitcoin. I don't know exactly but it could be a scam on the other hand someone might have done it to make fun of him, these may have something to do with his personal acquaintance as a whole.
