I think thread poster is talking with reference to fiat replacement yes bitcoin has this potential but personally i think at the moment it is more accepted as a store of value so it is kind of replacing gold and silver for now to be real fiat replacement it has to come up with efficient network and get rid of the scalability issues.

Overall, in my opinion, this is not because they don't want to, but because not everyone understands / knows what crypto is. so they still use traditional money as a transaction tool. but as time goes by, I think people will need crypto. You are right, bitcoin should not be compared to gold or gems.
If bitcoin, gold or gems have the same thing to store value then why should we differentiate?
Gold has its own market, gems has its own market and so does Bitcoin which has its own market, if all three of them have their own territory so we shouldn't need to mix them into one
