@Best_Change spams in the Press section

Not interested to discuss with members in this section. All that matter is to spam his

He never used the Press section before but since now he has to drive traffic to the Medium channel... 

You could post "suck my dick" he won't reply since he doesn't read. He hits with his link and runs away

The Press section is an unmoderated mess. The fact that the CoinIdol News bot is still spamming their links and hasn't yet been permabanned is proof enough that no one cares about it. Time to close that board for good.

Unpopular opinion: I would love to post in the Press section, if it wasn't a fuckfest. I would love to read everything happening in the world of bitcoin all at one place. Isn't that a part of the reason why Bitcointalk was created? To have a discussion forum to discuss about everything related to bitcoin?

I would love if someone is asked to moderate that board, and keep it clean. Please. Do so. It is time to revamp that board.

I gave up reporting in that board - there is only so many times I can report the same 5 or so accounts over and over and over and over and over and over before I want to stick forks in my eyes. If we aren't going to ban the obvious bots and chronic spammers then there is no point keeping the board open since it is simply used for free advertising by these low quality blogs and "news" sites.

Either assign a moderator to clean it up properly or just close it. Because whatever we are doing at the moment clearly isn't working.

I can't remember when I visited Press section last time. It turned into area for business to promote their own websites and blogs long time ago. And this case isn't exceptional.
But with proper moderation it still can be useful and interesting section. But then we need consent, what is allowed to post there and what is not. Now everyone can create his own news website or blog and post it there same like posting articles from propper websites like Bloomberg or Business Insider. But obviously, value of such articles is totally different.

A lot of us think the same and have asked the same but nothing has been done, and to make things worse every single piece of semi-important news gets about 10 topics in bitcoin discussion and at least one in economics and in speculation. Unfortunately at this point, that board is almost useless, all that is good for it is to scan the titles and use it as RSS feed.

Oh, and speaking of moderating that board, I have an opinion that might really be unpopular (for spammers), assign frodocooper
to it...and grab some popcorn.

I brought the issue of this up in the staff board back in late 2017:

If theymos isn't going to archive this section then I think we should prohibit any articles from crypto related sites and blogs etc. The sub forum is meant for notable press hits anyway, but now it's just any old crap that vaguely mentions crypto by sig spammers that some shitty site posts. Coindesk and CryptoCoinNews etc are not noteable press hits. Any threads that are not from mainstream media should just be trashed (or the sub board is just locked). There are also some Press boards in the local subs which are easily abused by sig spammers and farmers using bots. Thoughts?

Most of us agreed that it should be locked via the poll I did:

At the very least we should stipulate what counts as a notable Press hit as otherwise people will continue to post anything in there. I still think the board has served it's purpose though.

Only 10% maybe are moderated, otherwise, it stays "Unhandled". At the same time, I admit I gave up reporting the user for 2 weeks.
As @o_e_l_e_o it's so boring to report the same bad apples when nothing is done. It's like emptying an ocean with a spoon.

It's one of the rare sections of the forum not to be infested with shitposts where we can get a 'normal' discussion, unfortunately, the moderation is inexplicable.

Actually, I never gave attention to that board. I knew it exists but didn't bother reading stuff because the format of how everyone posts (with the date and title) seems uninteresting and spammy to me. Now that I actually read some stuff in there, it seems like a perfect mini-tech blog for me.

As long as the user mentioned is concerned, if they're wearing a signature, they definitely need to get kicked out of their campaign. No doubt they're trying to get traffic on their medium page for whatever reasons by spamming links on the forum.

Sad thing that the only for spams is to close down the board. I believe that there will still be change and hopefully some way can be done to keep the board intact like having mods to regulate. I am not frequent visitor in Press but I do see that as an oppurtunity to report a lot of possible spams.

In the Press section we share relevant news from bitcoin universe with the forum's community. We are glad to see our news are discussed there and we have not noticed negative reaction. If our signature with the invitation to our Medium channel annoys you guys, we will drop it. However, it is not spam but a recomedation for interested folks of a space where we share news on a daily basis.

I am glad that I am not the only one. From the looks of it, Press section could be revamped in a day. EASILY. no shot.

Temp-ban spammers, with irrelevant links, and pin a thread with new guidelines for the board. Allow users to post links only from sites like coindesk etc. Assign a moderator for that board, and until then let a global mod handle it. Us users can report the crappy threads and clean it. It is very doable imo.

I tried my best in the past as a simple user to keep this section as clean as possible. There is less content and maybe less moderation but my reports used to be checked in few hours. Without strict measures you feel like your efforts are useless. I do not support removing this section nor any other one in our forums. There is rules that should be followed otherwise the topic gets removed and you risk getting a sanction.

I can call it "spam", you can call it a "recommendation", there are surely other names to give. Finally, this is something that has not to be here. Imagine if all the users do the same, ("Check out my recommendation!"), no matter the board

Perhaps there is not enough interest from members. Perhaps there is no need to revamp anything because it was fine before. Most of my reports in the Pressboard are because they post news about a company, it's not news dedicated to Bitcoin directly. Or they post their news about Bitcoin's price speculation, technical analysis. Coinidol, I don't even need to read, I report directly

I totally agree with what you wrote, that board can be put in order in just one day if there is a real desire to do so - but instead locking is suggested as the only correct solution. The rules should be clearly set and anyone who does not follow them should bear the consequences.

The rule I would add is one thread per day/per user with an explicit note that news must be related to Bitcoin inclusive.

The signature is one thing, and the direct link you leave in each thread is something completely different - currently there are as many as 8 of them on the first page of the Press Board. If you already want to advertise your Medium, wouldn't it be better to add it to your existing signature, there are already links to FB, Twitter and Telegram? That way you get exposure throughout the forum, without annoying anyone by posting links.

In addition, I visited your Medium account and at least 50% of the articles have no direct connection to Bitcoin - so that link definitely violates the rules of the Press Board.

I have checked one of your thread in press board and I found no logical explanation why you have added your medium account in the below of that thread. I don't know if you are doing it in all of your threads but it certainly looks like you are spamming the link (indeed you are). I guess you must not do that further. For me, the board must be used for only important updates (news) of bitcoin.

It's not just a question of whether it would be "better" or not, they don't really have a choice:

Ads are typically not allowed in posts (outside of the signature area) because they are annoying and off-topic. It is especially disallowed to put ads or signatures at the bottom of all of your posts.

The link must go in the signature area, not within the body of the post.  Otherwise it's a rule violation and suddenly everyone will start thinking it's okay to do that.
