I searched the Exchanges section for BTCPOP and didn't find much at all.  Not surprising, since they're a small, obscure exchange based out of Asia (I think).

They're one of the only exchanges that lists Curecoin, which has caught my eye because of the Curecoin team that participates in the Folding@Home project.  All of the other exchanges that list it are either very sketchy or don't deal with US customers.  So I wanted to ask the community if they know anything about BTCPOP's reputation, or if anybody has had any problems with them in the past.

Right now I've got a few dollars' worth of Curecoin in a pending withdrawal that's been pending for about an hour....so that's kind of what prompted me to start this thread.  It makes my skin crawl having to use one of these offshore exchanges that could pull an exit scam at any minute, but with some of these oddball coins you do what you have to.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Bump, because I'm still interested in hearing any opinions on BTCPOP.  Surely there must be some members here who've used it.  I get that it's kind of an obscure exchange (and probably very low volume as well), but I'm assuming that since there are a lot of members here, at least a few would have some experience with them.

In any case, I haven't used them since I wrote the OP here.  I found another exchange that I can use for Curecoin, and the market there is much more liquid and the price is much, much better.

their reputation is not stellar---plenty of complaints about locked accounts/confiscated funds and terrible communication from support. ownership has changed hands a couple times. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1393297.0

i wouldn't risk much on them.

I found another exchange that I can use for Curecoin, and the market there is much more liquid and the price is much, much better.

if prices are diverging between 2 exchanges, it usually means something is awry at one of them. disabled wallets is the first thing that comes to mind.

Thank you for that link.  I had searched for BTCPOP on the Exchange section and didn't even think to search Scam Accusations.

As far as that thread goes, it looks like a few people who posted in that thread had their issues resolved to their satisfaction, and there were a couple of members who stuck up for BTCPOP.  In addition, the OP never posted evidence and never followed up as to whether he had his issue resolved.  Anyway, I don't intend to use them anymore.  DaveF got Curecoin listed on a very small US exchange that deals primarily in doge trading pairs.  Right now the price mismatch is enormous for that one coin, but it's not due to a fault of the exchange--it's because it just got listed and there are very few buy/sell orders.

I'm going to just leave this thread open in case anyone wants to bump it with their experiences.

Yes, I have experience with BTCPOP.
At first I liked the site. I thought it was a good idea to be able to invest in your peers.  But I quickly realized that they are a bunch of thiefs. I had invested a couple thousand USD into BTC and I loaned it out to people on the site. They were all cool. They paid back there loan. Out of the blue I  was given 24 hours to remove my bitcoin from the site. What was interesting was that in order for it to be removed it had to be approved by the admin. They wouldn't approve it. I contacted them, and they were no help, and were assholes to boot. I also had invested in IPO's or "initial public offerings".  I couldn't just remove that bitcoin because It was a loan to someone else. Just that alone I lost about 500$.

The  owner really seems like a legit dude. He is active on the site, and will even talk to you. But he is just another thief.  I was told by the support team that in order to actually get my BTC it had to be approved by the owner.  He never approved anything and I lost all that coin.

Im sure that there are people on there that have a good experience But from what I could tell there was maybe 20 people that were consistently on there. No one else really used the site.
