Can someone help me out with solar mining? I have some solar panels without battery backup and I'm thinking of using it for mining during the day when sun is up, is this going to work without battery backup? I'd appreciate any tutorial or past experience and lessons

You need zero injection system with ongrid inverter.SMA is good choice.

It's a simple mathematic, if your whole mining rigs is drawing like  500 watts combined the whole capacity of your solar panels must exceed 500watts, I'm guessing 1200 watts solar panel setup is the perfect choice, so even if you are losing sun power there will still be enough juice been drawn to handle the 500watts load

I'm sure you aren't newbie with solar panels? You must know what inverter is right? Don't go and plug solar panels directly to your mining rig you will burn everything up, you will need an inverter like 600 watts, the inverter will  suppress the electricity to the exact juice you need. I hope you understand, if you don't please use youtube and search how to do this

you already got your answer with the above post , never direct direct from your panels , as mentioned earlier you absolutely need other "hardware" between the panels and your miners or othere usecases youlike to run on your free electricity

Solar power and mining are generally not a good mix. Mining needs a steady supply of power.
You'll need some kind of storage, either batteries or the grid.

You can always buy cheap car batteries (lead-acid-based) and add them to the mix. Even the used ones will do just fine. You'll have a much more stable power source in the absence of direct sunlight and even a partial autonomy.

Without batteries the current won't be stable, you don't have to go for the expensive battery types, you can buy used batteries they will still work fine for the job, also you can consider those standalone inverters that has inbuilt lithium ion battery like jackery power station or Goal zero Yeti, you can find them on Amazon

It's not going to work without battery backup, sun won't be around for more than six to seven hours per day and to make good amount of money you have to mine 24hours per day, that includes mid night too, you are definitely going to need battery backups for this to actually works

no you arent able doing solar mining without backup electric/hybrid, when shadow from the cloud hitting the panel, you will lose almost 80-90% of peak power

so if 1000w you will lose 800-900w, and the miner will lose the power, i think hybrid its only way to deal, if you wont using battery

In my country we have epileptic electricity every single day, to mine in my country I choose battery backups only, instead of spending money on solar panels I buy more batteries and chargers only, so I mine with electricity for few hours and the rest through battery backups, you won't stand a chance without battery back ups

We've done a mining setup using a solar power without battery, the thing is, you can only conserve an electricity by day, if you want to mine using it you can do a day mining, you can never pay for electricity in doing that.

Mining without battery backup is possible but it depends on the power draw from the solar panels and also what kinda of sunny you used to get in your area, some countries don't have enough shiny sunny day, make sure you have enough solar panels that can supply 3x of your power draw so that if sun isn't shining enough it will still supply enough electricity

I don't know where you got that information from, but I think you're mistaken.
Solar panels use daylight energy to produce electricity, but they do not require direct sunlight to function. They will not lose 80-90% of their power during cloudy days but will produce about 50% (depending on performance and quality) of their nominal power.

When you say you have some solar panels, is that 2 harbor freight panels or an array on your roof? Here is the general idea.

Use a solar resource map to find how many killowatts/m2/day your location has annually. Let's say it is 5 kwh/m2/day. If this doesn't have battery backup your system is net metering with a annual credit. If you have a 5kw system you will produce 25kwh/day on average, in the northern hemisphere expect half of that in winter and double that in the summer. If you use 20kwh/day on average throughout the year you have 5kwh/day of usage left in your credit to maximize annually.

5kwh/day /24hrs of mining is 208.3W of mining per hour. This is very little for mining. Were talking about 1 low grade FPGA on a 300W computer running fairly idle. 1 GPU running on a decent rig is about 600W or 14.4kwh/day or a 2.9kw solar system. Not much of a rig.

Solar can work. but you need a large array. Mining is very intensive electrically. If you have hydro, you could potentially use a 7kw hydro system to be able to run at least 2 fast ASICs for similar costs.

omg....what do I read in here.....

did anybody ask if it´s an ongrid or offgrid system? I assume it´s ongrid, how else would he get a fast stable internet connection...lol....

so if it´s ongrid you can mine all day, you then have a stable energy supply. if sun is out, you can use your solar panels, if not, you use power from grid automatically. thing is to read solar power and start / stop the miner when sun is up / down. therefor you need to read (through api) the production number out of your converter and start your mining if it´s higher than your rig´s power consumption. weather forecast would be good.

I absolutely dont know how to do that....most converters have api´s that you can read...

if you are really offgrid and have a internet connection for mining: that wont run without battery. one cloud and your rig shuts down.

ongrid shows like this...so you can use solar power without having enough energy. the rest comes out of the wall.
