Giving him a book about crypto is good. I also admire your intentions and effort to enlighten him and help our community grow bigger as well. However, I am worrying a little bit because I doubt that you will have a hard time finding such book in the local bookstore near you. If you choose to order online then you pay for additional fees, the time of shipment takes long especially if it came from overseas, and you still don't know whether the quality of it is good or not. In short, so much hassle lol.

So instead of giving him a book, why don't you mentor him by yourself. Be confident! You can do it. Our friend Google is always there to help as on the references and Youtube for actual videos. See? You can save a lot of money by using Internet.

I know the common recommendation would be Andreas Antonopoulos' The Internet of Money, but though it's a really really good book, I've read the Little Bitcoin Book[1] and it pretty much covered most of the important parts crunched into a pretty small book(as to not bore the reader). The Internet of Money series is pretty much just Andreas' talks in written form, so it's a lot less organized and not really sequential.

EDIT: take a look at how thin this thing is. It's pretty much a booklet lol.

Some free books you can read online on Github or download it with free PDF files and there are good resources for you (you don't have to restrict yourself to books).
- Mastering bitcoin. If you have problems with English, you can try with Few translations of Mastering Bitcoin but I advise you to try with English to get meanings by yourself.
- Mastering Ethereum
- Mastering the Lightning Network
- Lopp.net's Bitcoin information
- The Internet of Money
- Bitcoins Related Books (Updated)

@mk4 I have heard a lot of good things about Andreas Antonopoulos but most people would recommend Mastering Bitcoin. This is the first time I hear someone recommend The Internet of Money. What would you say is the difference between those two?

@tranthidung is the Mastering Bitcoin book available online the exact same as the one that is sold as a paperback? There seems to be several versions and editions of it. Which one should I go for?

I would suggest you to give him some free bitcoins (satoshi's) and link to some YouTube tutorial explaining about bitcoins and crypto currencies.
Giving a book about bitcoin won't be much interesting to anyone who is new to bitcoin. Give hims some real bitcoins, show him its value on preev.com and he will be excited to learn more about them.

Mastering Bitcoin have many technical information, while The Internet of Money doesn't contain technical information. The book have it's own website at https://theinternetofmoney.info

Same contents if you are reading same edition of that book.

It has only 2 versions if I don't miss a newest version. The link I gave you is English version of the Mastering bitcoin 2nd edition and it is given by the author the book, Andreas Annatopolous.

For translations (pdf files), as said you them with risks and bias information (probably can have from translation process). Try with English version if you can.

Additionally, you can try it there (with free trial): https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/mastering-bitcoin-2nd/9781491954379/
  • Click on Table of contents, and choose the chapter you want to read

I would prefer to read it on Github.  Wink

I don't know that website and that book. Thank you both.

I wouldn't really recommend that book in general especially if speaking of the typical person. Mastering Bitcoin would make sense getting that one if you're into code and you're interested in the technical aspects of Bitcoin, while The Internet of Money is more of why we need Bitcoin and such(which fits a lot better for most people).

The idea of gifting a Crypto book to a friend is a great idea and I appreciate such. Not wanting to send  book that’s is technical I don’t know how wish to achieve that? Because bitcoin is technical so it’s learning process is also technical. I understand with such Gift you’re spreading the knowledge of bitcoin and expanding the community.

@Crptomagma maybe I should have explained it better. When I said technical I meant that it shouldnt be understandable only to developers. The main focus shouldnt be on coding, different segments of the code and stuff like that. I still want the book to explain everything there is to know about bitcoin but in a way that regular people with no coding skills can follow.

Not really. While I think I'm a decently tech-savvy person, I'm really not into the deep technicals of Bitcoin; but more of the theoretical/economic/investing side of it. If you need to be technical to decently understand and take advantage of Bitcoin's characteristics, then we're fucked.

Take a look at the book recommendation from my previous reply.

I like to gift books to my friends also and I think its one of the best gifts you can give someone as a Christmas present.

I would suggest Cryptoassets: The Innovative Investor's Guide to Bitcoin and Beyond by Chris Burniske and Jack Tatar

From a beginner's perspective, this book works well. It basically provides the case why Crypto-assests is a new Asset class and why it should be considered in one's portfolio from Modern Portfolio theory perspective. It takes us through various cryptos from its inception, their use cases, developers & its target market. Shares the similarities and dissimilarities with other assets classes from historical perspective.

What really works in this book is that it provides the right framework and tools to validate & analyse these Crypto-assets. Also provides some good metrics to detect scams in the Wild World of ICOs.

I think the writers have accomplished in educating the readers especially from an investment point of view. I can highly recommend this book.

If you want to give a newbie friend a book about bitcoin, I think this book is good for your friend.  The title of his book "Bitcoin: The Ultimate Beginner Through Advanced Guide" by Samuel Rees.  You can buy it on amazon, I had the book about 2 years ago, and I liked the book because it was easy to understand for me who was a beginner at that time.  But unfortunately, the book was damaged by the flood.

They are many crypto book online and offline also in the bookshop, and is a very good idea to read and make more research towards cryptocurrency, and the world is changing into digital through means of digital asset as a means of payment, or purchasing goods online and services.
