I recently discovered that a couple of my posts have been deleted. When I wanted to find the topic from which my messages were deleted, I noticed that the topic was completely deleted. Yesterday I found plagiarism that was reported to the moderators. And the result was the complete removal of the branch that was started with plagiarism. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.msg55787904#msg55787904I believe that deleting the entire topic completely is a normal and correct decision. Sometimes we reply to such topics and subsequently wonder where our messages went. Perhaps sometimes it will be useful to check at least a little the history of posts of the author of the topic to compare his style with the created topic. Sometimes the style of writing a topic is very different from that of the author himself. You can check the topic for plagiarism. https://1text.com/https://smallseotools.com/plagiarism-checker/ There are many topics on plagiarism search on the forum. Today, thanks to @witcher_sense who spotted a newbie copying text from reddit.com, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5298715.msg55793300#msg55793300 I checked other posts from that account, and again most of its topics are plagiarized. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.msg55795127#msg55795127What would I like to say? Respond more carefully to topics created by newbies. Sometimes they no longer appear on the forum after creating topics. And if plagiarism is detected, the risk of deleting the entire topic is possible. Do not be lazy to warn about plagiarism in the topic itself, and of course, inform the moderators.

It happens to me all the time, and I am used to it :-P Perhaps sometimes it will be useful to check at least a little the history of posts of the author of the topic to compare his style with the created topic. Sometimes the style of writing a topic is very different from that of the author himself. You can check the topic for plagiarism. Most of the time in the Development & Technical Discussion when people come with an issue that they are experiencing you really do not feel to check their posting history. Sometimes most of them just made their first post. In the other boards it could be different especially in this B&H. I have had a bad experience, not very long ago. I and some other users in the forum usually like to send merit to a topic which is discussing about technical issue of a wallet or bitcoin. Like someone explained their problem and seeking for information. Somehow some users spotted this culture. The Other day one of the user copied an issue from Reddit and posted the same from Reddit. We sent merit to that posts and later one user discovered that was copy past from few years ago in Reddit LOL This is how we get trapped and waste our time because of some less moraled newbies (better say alt account)

There's nothing scary about getting your posts deleted together with the topic, unless you are counting your every post for your signature campaign. In any case, if you want to minimize such events, it's not enough to just becareful of newbie OPs, you should get a sense if a new topic might get deleted or not. Generally topics get deleted if they are obviously worthless, like some questions that get asked every day, if they are offtopic or spam (spam usually contains links).

I would not really call this a 'bad experience' per se, those sort of topics are usually very interesting and helpful, first cause it's highly educative and one gets to learn new things from users who are more tech savvy, and also cause we prolly may not really have the same problem at that same time, but could experience it later, then that thread could be helpful in solving the issue. With the issue of the merits which is why I know you called it a 'bad experience', it's not all that important, I'm sure it's just a couple, the users who plagiarize questions will be banned and the merits becomes useless, then those who ask only to gain merits would not get too far with just that 'tradition', so in other words genuine users should not be discouraged to ask questions regarding their wallets, bitcoin, etc, if they feel the need to.

You can usually weight up the probability of a thread being deleted if you spend enough time here, and can judge the quality. Usually, threads get deleted for plagiarism along with a ban, duplicate posts, and spam. I'm not suggesting everyone should be checking for plagiarism, as the normal user isn't required to do that, but those that want to help out the forum can. However, you can likely judge a thread by its quality, and check whether there's a similar thread to it.
Although, duplicates to get removed I don't think technical support threads get removed as often when they're duplicates. Often, when there's a technical issue, people like to personalize it to them, and be sure its the correct way to do it. For example, if someone asked how to create a paper wallet, pointing them to a guide is good, but personally I believe its good to also explain the steps to them directly, as people usually prefer that, because any doubts they can work it out.

I just encountered a case like this this morning. There was a thread on Bitcoin Discussion with the following OP: The rate at which bitcoins are unrecoverably lost?
I have read that 20% of all bitcoin been already lost. People lost they keys, or people died, etc. As bitcoin becomes more mainstream, is it easonable to expect that more and more bitcoins will be lost? And that even one day, all of bitcoin may be lost?
I can’t find the topic (5298720.0) in modlog, so I can’t attest the rank of the OP, but if anyone really needs to plagiarize content like that, which barely takes 3 minutes to think and write, then they’ve really got an issue. As it, turns out, it was plagiarized from https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinBeginners/comments/ka9kx3/the_rate_at_which_bitcoins_are_unrecoverably_lost/ (assuming the author was different), which led to the thread being trashed, alongside my post, amongst others. Not a big issue, but I’d still rather receive a notification, instead of having to go on a longer route to find out which post of mine was deleted and why.

In my case, if I detect any plagiarized topics then simply avoid posting that thread and report it to meta. Because I know most probably moderators will delete the thread if they take the report positively. It's not possible to check each newbies post if it's plagiarized or not. I check when only have doubts, so nothing wrong reply to such a post. Also, we shouldn't be worried even posts are deleted, it will not any troubles for us if the entire thread deletes.

so in other words genuine users should not be discouraged to ask questions regarding their wallets, bitcoin, etc, if they feel the need to.
Obviously this is not going to change my merit sending criteria. This just adds an extra layer for me to check on the web if the poster had plagiarized or not. I just need to check with a tool before I send the merit. Sucks though :-D However, you can likely judge a thread by its quality, and check whether there's a similar thread to it.
Quality is relevant I think. To me something maybe very useful but the same topic for you maybe a rubbish and vice versa. When a user copy and paste a technical question and when as a reader you are not aware that this is a same technical question which was asked a few years back in another forum/media then it's a surprise for you once it has been discovered. For example check this: Hello guys,
Hopefully one of you can help me out trying to fix this error. I can see my balance and everything works until I try to send btc to someone. There's 4 steps before sending (Recipient, Amount, Summary, device -- I get stuck on device and the error shows -- ledger device: INS_NOT_SUPPORTED (0x6d00)
I tried multiple step unsuccessfully.
1)Reinstalled ledger live with the current version 2.8.0
2) Tried a new usb cord
3) Tried on a new computer (windows and also MAC)
Is there anyone that has the same problem or anyone knows how to fix it?
Thanks! Posted by a user: https://ninjastic.space/topic/5296751Later we discovered that this was copied from Reddit LOL https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/hpgree/sending_bitcoin_error_with_ledger_0x6d00/

I do answer to newbies when I can and I don't check for plagiarism unless it looks so. And I noticed that many times the newbies remove themselves the topic topics get deleted, for various reasons I don't know and I don't care. Actually I've even answered to a topic I also reported, so the newbie has a chance to know why his topic got removed. My point is that this forum is for discussing and helping around. If for whatever reason the topic is removed, so be it. The number of posts should not be the ultimate goal.

I agree with you in all that you've said and most of all on this fact. Most times it's always a little encouragement for this newbies or beginners to do more in other to gain a recognition in the forum and as such, they are pushed by this desire to do more into copying paste contents without source. Knowing or not, they fill the boards with plagiarised contents and end up feeling worked up about the process especially when they are found out, banned or have there contents deleted. As a result, they go ghost in the forum either due to ban or discouragement. Living other users with just another deleted post and wondering what went wrong? Well, to avoid such, a simple plagiarism check on the topic is all that it takes but sometimes, the adrenaline on topics of interest and perhaps the need to complete post quota for some lives one to neglect the single process. Believing that it is a duty for the other users! Hence, the result could be another deleted post and should posts not to have been counted in campaigns, your stock right where you were. So, should you be concerned about deleted posts while responding to newbie contents, especially that which seems to come off with much quality, a plagiarism check is advised to avoid wasted effort in trying to impact the forum. Your doing great @Lovesmayfamilis in keeping and promoting the serenity of the forum. Where I'm from, a feather would be added to your cap. Greetings.
