There are few coins that are top 10 altcoins rank in 2016 and they loss the rank unexpectedly, I still remember blackcoin and others very well, I know Ethereum is far stronger but new projects are showing more interests in Polkadot, people that's a big problem for Ethereum if you ask me

Polka dot is an open-source project that works with shared protocol that enables Blockchain Networks to work with Synergy. The token serves three distinct purposes; Governance, Staking and Bonding. I admit that Polkadot does have a good project, but that doesn't allow Polkadot to beat Ethereum, because the project from Ethereum is also good and more popular than Polkadot (many project have used smart contract from Ethereum), besides that the trading volume of Ethereum is also very high and Ethereum is ranked 2nd in coinmarketcap, so it proves that Ethereum is still the best (there are still many people who believe to investing in Ethereum), so nothing can beat or replace Ethereum, including Polkadot.

In the business world competition is natural. As in the crypto industry, where all altcoins also compete to be the best in order to get a lot of attention from traders and investors. Polkadot is currently competing with ethereum technology. However, ethereum is still in the top position and at the moment it may be difficult to rival ethereum and replace the ethereum position for polkadot. The majority of new projects are still choosing ERC20 over POLKA assets. that means if there's no a lot of new platforms going to the DOT. Some platform may go for it but it's only to catch the hype that's still around DOT.

No. I think. Crypto world is a form of revolutionary competition that lasts and through.  I rate DOT very highly on the past maturing process.  But it needs to be maintained and validated according to better in order to surpass ETH.
Before that, many predictions, comparing XRP, XML, ... will surpass.  But it is not come to done.  ETH is trying harder.  and better if ETH exceeds 5k $ at the year to.

Exactly. It's not about how many "shiny" features a cryptocurrency has, but rather its level of mainstream adoption. Usability is what matters above all else. While Ethereum is slower and much more expensive than its competitors, it has an ever-growing list of dApps and tokens unlike any other smart contract platform in the world today. The second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap has a solid foundation built upon it, with many developers, businesses, and individuals supporting it. With a large user base behind Ethereum, nothing could stand in its way. We've seen how many times ETH rivals have been proclaimed as the "Ethereum Killer" only to fail in the long run. The same thing will happen with Polkadot, becoming an alternative than a replacement of Ethereum.

Nonetheless, time will tell us the fate of Ethereum in the mainstream world. My guess is that it will remain as the "King of Smart Contracts", due to competitors' inability to gain widespread adoption worldwide. It'll be the same situation with Bitcoin right now. Despite many altcoins being superior than Bitcoin in their technical aspects, they've been unable to take its place as the "King of Crypto". Polkadot and other competing smart contract platforms should focus on working together instead of trying to defeat Ethereum. Only then, the crypto/Blockchain land will be a better place to "live" in. My guess is that it will remain as the "King of Smart Contracts", due to competitors' inability to gain widespread adoption worldwide. It'll be the same situation with Bitcoin right now. Despite many altcoins being superior than Bitcoin in their technical aspects, they've been unable to take its place as the "King of Crypto". Polkadot and other competing smart contract platforms should focus on working together instead of trying to defeat Ethereum. Only then, the crypto/Blockchain land will be a better place to "live" in. That's exactly my thinking.
Part of the reason is that there is always a new threat coming in but that doesn't mean it will kill it, but further strengthen it as Ethereum will improve its technology to stay competitive. Furthermore, I also think that since the three new cryptocurrencies are so much smaller than Ethereum, they will find it more difficult to attract the talented developers, entrepreneurs, business people, and those willing to contribute the vast sums of cash needed to execute a new cryptocurrency project.

if they are true eth believers they wont think of moving to polkadot but if they are eth believers they will know if what are the disadvantage of eth and if polkadot has its own advantage over eth , eth is now in threat and is now in a sticky situation .

Polkadot has had success lately. Yes, this cannot be ignored. But for now, it does not look like it will be a rival or be a threat to Ethereum. There has to be more for this. In such a short time, Etherum cannot shift the position it has held for years.

In fact that if there are so many people still issuing their asset into the ethereum. Ethereum can't be replaced by the new project easily. That needs a very long time to make it happen.

Ethereum's foundation is one of the solid ones in the crypto community.
So I don't think DOT will replace or kill eth in easy manner or in the very near future.
They have long years to prove that DOT has advantages over eth.
But project developers have good options now, they can check the viability of their project to be built under DOT.
The more competition that we have in the market, the better for users.

Its still too far for Polkadot to kill Ethereum, furthermore why a community have any mind to kill another community, they should focus on the project they follow to achieve their target and to keep the community.

It would take something catastrophic to really kill Ethereum or to topple it from second place in total market cap. It's network effect is too big to overcome at this point. Other coins that briefly surpassed it like XRP and BCH proved to be too centralized and based on hype. Developers are going to continue to prefer Ethereum because it is more mature and established.

Any smartcontract platforms have potential to be considered as alternative platforms for ethereum and people are know about that so well.

I am just looking at the project on Polkadot, the quality of projects on Polkadot is more important to me than Polkadot platform itself, look at all the Ethereum Killers in the space, starting from EOS, Tezos, Cosmos etc all have failed to attract good projects on their platform and these Dapps are what help drive up exposure to the blockchain

Waves too was presented as Ethereum killer some years ago but where is Waves today? No way to be seen. It is still struggling at $7. What abut Binance and Ripple? What a sham all those projects are. Once any new project begins to get a rise the next thing is people comparing it with Ethereum or bitcoin to take over from them. Every project have to exist on their own and not be compared to others. Polkadot has alot to do before getting the type of attention Eth has already. No comparison.

Only crypto believers or user moving to polkadot doesn't necessarily means  it's gonna increase the market cap significantly.
The most important thing within ecosystem of certain cryptocurrency more specifically a crypto that specializes in smart contract is the dapp. It's what triggers people to spend their cryptocurrencies and make the market moves. Most of people are just bagholding their ETH without it so peolpe moving over to polkadot isn't enough.

Aside from Cardano which is arguably the Ethereum Killer base on some people, Polkadot is on its way to be a competitor of Ethereum right now.

A coin which came from nowhere and now it is on the top 10 already in terms of market cap. Its too early to predict if Polkadot will do it or if it can really do it since it is very young right now. There are some projects who are under Polkadot right now but when ETH 2.0 will be done, I'm predicting that more will support ETH because of the staking compare to DOT.

Taking over a position doesn't mean death, Polkadot beats XRP but XRP is still alive, Polkadot is a altcoin I have respect for because it's been years we have seen new altcoins getting into top 10 on coinmarketcap but things is easier for Polkadot because of its utilities, I won't say it's impossible to defeat Ethereum but Polkadot gotta do alot to take over Ethereum
