I set up a bitcoin donation post for my horror story podcast and website then FB went off the deepened and told me they didn't support bitcoin and I wouldn't be able to advertise wth them if I had it on there so I removed it for now. Is this really a thing? They go as far as to scour your website and pick bitcoin of all things to complain about?

Yeah a bunch of scammer used to put ads up for crypto everywhere and Facebook habe been proactive in trying to stop it.

If you look at anything cryptocurrency related on anything Google owns (Google search, YouTube) especially if you vpn through the UK you'll see there are A LOT of scams out there - even just googling anything stock related.

Probably a loophole: create a donation page on your website(you definitely should have a website in 2020) and place in your bitcoin wallet address there, and post the link to that page on Facebook; rather than showing the Bitcoin address straight into a Facebook post.

It is not a good  approach for your long business if you are serious to build it up if you construct your business on third party platforms (facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube, twitch).

If you want to do something serious and intend to maintain it long term. Build up your website and build it up. You have full control on your business.

Website about crypto can have some risks from regulations so buy domain names from Namecheap and run it on VPS.

There are still scammers posting about their scams still, even if Facebook proactively stops them, they will spawn like Hydra heads. There are Facebook groups that is infested by scammers like in my country where the cryptoscams are still relatively unknown, spams of bots are rife in groups that are looking for jobs. I would say that the way they handle this campaign to stop scams is still not enough.

To OP, Use your descriptions to post the address so you do not have problem. Facebook attacks creator indiscriminately mentioning cryptocurrency in their website to prevent scammers. There are creators that have their addresses posted on their descriptions and they do not seem to be flagged, and also try other platforms like Youtube or Twitch to broadcast your content.

It's because the Facebook platform has been used by criminals as well, so you might be the collateral damage of Facebook hunting down those people. And besides they will be re launching their supposedly Libra an that's where the hate on bitcoin probably steam. There are a lot of other social media out there that you can used to advertise so you might as well try them and see how it goes for you. Don't just stick to one social media like Facebook.

With so much scams on social media it might be the case that Facebook automatically false-flags Bitcoin addresses as scams. While it's unfair for those who want to post their Bitcoin addresses without malicious intent, I really can't blame Facebook's software for being strict due to the number of scams on social media.

This has been happening for quite some time. In fact, they are also very vigilant about the post and comments. Mainly it is due to the scammers but it could be that they are banning BTC because they are launching their own crypto soon. Who knows?

Facebook are very stricted on their platform. Even non bitcoin related streams or podcast are sometimes being taken down. You could try other streaming platforms like youtube or twitch. If you are dedicated on what you do, your number of your viewers will increase in time if they get interested in your content.

Policy related matter I think, that is, with the number of scams being done on daily basis and the fact that most these platforms are still not in good terms with crypto they have taken major steps to curb it in anyway they see fit. So yes, it is a big thing for Facebook, and in their own opinion, they are trying to safeguard their users, hence the best thing you can do to achieve your aim is trying other platforms like YouTube. Also, you really need to be passionate about what you do, so that you can overcome challenges like this, nevertheless sooner than later, most of these platforms still finding issues with Bitcoin will come to the understanding that, they really need to support it.

It was their efforts to prevent any fraud on their platform. I hope bitoin will re-activate the libra project. It is a cryptocurrency project that is held by facebook and also immediately addressed this issue as soon as possible in order to make it easier for the true cryptocurrency pioneers to advertise there.

Facebook does prohibit the entry of news about cryptocurrency, maybe on the grounds that there is a scam there but I suggest that if you really want to do this you should make a post on Twitter, because according to what I know Twitter social media does not prohibit news about cryptocurrency posted on Twitter, you can post it with free. cryptocurrency news or whatever you want to do there.

Regarding the suggestions that have been made, it is true, it would be nice for now not to use Facebook as a container to declare bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. Facebook will be very fast in responding to matters related to crypto. for whatever reason, it seems they do not like the existence of crypto before their proposed Libra is legitimate.
There are still many other alternative platforms that can be used and have a wider effect than being stuck on Facebook.

The media most often does what the government tells them to do. This is why many media outlets either ignore bitcoin or prohibit it to some extent.

No one told them to ban posts about Bitcoin, they did it on their own because of so many Bitcoin and crypto-related scams - doublers, cloud mining, ICO, etc. They can't dispatch real humans to check these posts, so they use algorithms to match keywords and automatically delete these posts. Maybe in the future they will train some AI models to separate scams from legitimate posts, because blanket banning everything is hurting their business.

Is this really a thing?

Yep. Too many scams and in crypto there's no possibility for charge back either.
Hence the big sites have scripts that check for crypto addresses. This was most advertised in Twitter (after that big Twitter scam), but I see FB is no different.
Keep in mind that you are putting content onto their site, not yours. Make your own site and you'll have your rules. Or, as @mk4 said, make one page for donations purpose and link to that.

Wow, a horror stories podcast. Pretty sure it is the first time I hear about this. Can you send me a link to it? - I'm quite curious. Smiley

I think social media should be considered a public space that where we can express ourselves freely. How can they forbid posting a Bitcoin address? Sounds like nonsense to me..

Twitter and other reputable social media websites haven't taken any measures...

Facebook is the largest social media platform at the moment, and advertising for businesses on Facebook will be well-targeted. But unfortunately, Facebook has banned and blocked crypto-related ads due to the large number of scammers who are in the crypto business. I agree with what @mk4 said to create a donation page on the website and advertise your web/blog on Facebook.

Or you try other platforms like steemit, publish0x, or readcash that will pay with crypto if your readers like your horror stories. This is an upvote system, where readers will reward you if they like it.

Sometimes you just have to see the world from this big firms point of view, facebook got criticize for making the scams easier for the scammers with their support of crypto related ad. At a point in early 2017 I had to stop using Facebook because the ads scams where just everywhere and you can easily see innocent victims as they share and comments on this ads without any knowledge of what they're engaging themselves in.

The decision of facebook to block all crypto related ads was just the best they can do as you don't expect them to start investigating to know which project are the authentic or scammy ones. In some scenario, project starts off as legitimate but with time their true colours get reviewed.

We're encourage to carry-out personal research before investing but that's not using the case with noobs joining the industry due to the hype of a certain trend like ICO and defi etc.
