Do we not nuke - Brand New PM spammers??

Title says it all really. I received the PM in question on December 6th, it was a spammy fake Gunbot PM with a promo code. Similar to what is discussed in the link, same code anyways.

I reported the PM, and left it in my inbox, as sort of a reminder/notification. I rarely report PM's so I'm fuzzy here, on whether or not a nuked accounts PM's even get deleted in the same fashion as their posts would.

Even more confusing to me is, how the account is still alive and kicking today, sanjogita123
I don't know if there is a better way to prevent the spamming, apart from maybe not allowing Brand New no post accounts the ability to PM users apart from Admins.

Most likely, the user was banned on December 6. It's been 8 days, the modlog has been updated and the ban record has disappeared.

I don't think it was ever in modlog. BPIP scraper would have caught it but it didn't.

I checked my older modlog archives: it wasn't there.

Looks like no. I think the user was not just banned. Its nuked.

I actually keep it enable. There are spammers and scammer who are always active to flood the PM with their baits but there are also good users who are in need of help genuinely. It happened to me several occasions. Anyway, it's personal preference.

I can not remember if I got such PM from the specific users but I can recall I have received many spams in my PM and all the time I ignored them. Their style says it all so ignoring the PMs are easy. But I realize now that a report will make it better.

I can not remember if I got such PM from the specific users but I can recall I have received many spams in my PM and all the time I ignored them. Their style says it all so ignoring the PMs are easy. But I realize now that a report will make it better.

I actually don't mind if newbies PM me, I do still get the odd one from time to time seeking mining advice. I rarely get anything annoying. This spam I don't mind as I can then at least report it, and I don't get these often enough for them to be a problem. This instance just seemed weird to me, like it might have been an oversight or something.

I can't say anything about it. Maybe someone else on the staff knows the answer to your question.

Yeah not really a "personal" concern, more of an in general.

It just seems a weird blindspot when the term is nuked.

The option to allow newbies send you PMs was disabled by default some years back, see here. So anyone who enables it probably believes they can handle such messages even though it would potentially contain spam/scam (maybe cause their purpose on the forum requires them to interact with a lot of members, including newbies).

The newbie pm warning message was also enabled some years ago.

All these serve as precautions to protect other members from the potential scam from new members and users who interact with them most probably do it intentionally for their reasons. Deleting private messages without the parties permission could be a line the admins would not want to cross.

It seems that that if a user gets nuked, his profile doesn't appear as banned on bpip. I checked it myself on this thread that contains a bunch of nuked spammers from last year. If you search for the first three accounts on bpip, none of them show the 'Archived' info on bpip.
That is weird. The accounts I mentioned didn't show up as banned on bpip, but as I continued checking the list randomly, they started showing the 'Achieved' info. Now all the profiles seem to have it. But sanjogita123 still doesn't have it for some reason. Maybe the info got scrapped only after I started searching for the IDs, but that doesn't answer the question why sanjogita123 doesn't also show up as banned.

That is just the thing. You can't know if and how many times he has sent the same PM to other users. He might have just targeted you and nobody else. The PMs could contain proof and valuable info and shouldn't be deleted.

The user has no posts at all so reporting him to the mods is almost impossible if you don't open an accusation thread or something like that.

Not just admins, even global mods get it as well so like 3 more people(Mr.Big, mprep, & hilariousandco).

But he has been banned, according to BPIP. It seems like multiple bots are out here doing this, are people still getting messages like this?

You are right. I checked. A Nuked user does not appear in the list if they have not made any posts.

But Autobanned users without posts do show up in modlog
