I'm using an Asus Prime Z390-P motherboard and 6 MSI RX 580 ARMOR 8G OC video cards with Samsung memory for my rig. I have got four of the cards running fine, but the last two won't run together with the other four. I'm using Hive OS with Phoenixminer and ethermine.

The four cards that are running get 27.4 MH. Overclocking is set at 1050 900 1950 for each card. I did a bios mod by copying the 1750 timing to the 2000 timing and pasted it there using the Polaris bios editor.

If I take card five by itself and put it in PCI slot 1, it works fine. This scenario is the same for card six. I just can't get these two cards to run with the other four.

Bios settings:

- In System Agent Config, I enabled "above 4G Coding"
- In Peg Port config, I changed PCIEX16_1 Link Speed to "Gen2"
- In PCH Config/PCI Express Config, I changed PCIe Speed to "Gen2"
- I also disabled HD audio and turned the power on for power loss functionality

Any clues why I can't get all six cards to work together? Does the MH seem low? I don't know any other way to mod the bios.

What is the size of your power pack? If enough power isn't available there will be problems with recognizing all the cards, can you please drop the size of your powerpack? I will be glad to help, also is your motherboard bios up to date? If no kindly do that too and drop a feedback

This settings you don´t need. I never changed PCIE to Gen2 or 1. All say we must do this, my rigs run well with Gen3 for several years.

Change riser even if it's new.

Make sure your M.2 ports are disabled.  Looks like in block diagram they share pcie.  Should be able to get 6 running.

On motherboards with 250/270 series chipsets:
"we switched PCI-E to Gen 2.0 or Gen 1.0
Enabled manual TOLUD setting in BIOS to 3.5 GB"
Try different versions of BIOS

The problem with not even be in the BIOS but the connections itself, some risers are bad out of the box, I don't know which brand you get but try getting extra if possible, I'm talking from my past experience when I was still very new with motherboards and graphic cards

I don't think there's a problem with any of the risers or cards. when I plug in cards 1,2,3, and 4 into the first four slots on the motherboard, they work fine. If I plug in cards 1,2,5, and 6 into the first four slots, they also work fine. I have also tried cards 1, 2, 5, and 6 in slots 1, 2, 5, and 6 with success.

I have tried both Gen1 and Gen2. I also tried turning off the PEGPORT Config PCIEX6_1 Link Speed.

Right now, I have six cards hooked up and it won't go back to the bios when it reboots. It just goes to Hive.

It's the motherboard, I have a AMD motherboard that's this bad too, it has more than 4 slots and when I insert up to 6 GPUs no matter what I try it won't work, I end up getting a new gigabyte motherboard, more stable and all cards are recognized instantly, have you try updating bios like some recommend already?

I'm using the same type of cards with a ASUS Prime Z270p. It was a struggle getting it going too with similar issues. I modded each BIOS a second time, swapping 1750 timings and putting them into the 2000 timings, and that seemed to work. I tried that with this rig and it didn't work.

The bios I have been using is the  latest updated version.

This may help:

I use the Z270P

I use Gen 1 or Gen 2 - makes no difference - Gen 3 probably makes no difference either
Set Graphic Config to Onboard
Set M2 Config to PCIE

I use RaveOS with PhoenixMiner 5.4b

I run 8 x Sapphire RX580 Nitro's - all with Hynix Bios Mods applied

Took some tweaking to get it running pretty lean and found the two cards running off the M2 PCIE channels are more fickle and require less core and memory clock than the others to be stable

I had to search for the M.2. area in the bios for the Asus Z390-P motherboard. I can't seem to find its settings in the "advanced" area. It only has options to enable them (there's 2) or disable them. I left them disabled for now.

I changed the PCIE link speed to Gen2, which I assume is for the four slots PCIEX1_1, PCIEX1_2, PCIEX1_3 and PCIEX1_4. I also changed the PCIEX16_1 link speed to Gen2, which I assume is for the two slots PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2.

It still won't let two cards hash. I purchased a couple of M.2 to PCIE adapters today, which I'll try if I can't get things going in the meantime. I'm not sure what to do

I just tried unplugging cards one and two so that 3, 4, 5 and 6 are in slots 3, 4, 5 and 6 and its working fine. Yet, if I try to include one more card, it won't hash correctly.

Do not despair, I have come across a lot of new motherboards where it is impossible to run all kinds of video cards.
I suggest that next time you first study the reviews of the miners about the motherboard you want to purchase and try
not to buy new motherboards that are on sale recently.

@philipma1957
Such a nice tips  Grin but the only problem it won't run without psu.

I recently have issue detecting other gpu on my rig. I tried everything and follow all bios setup and replacing other OS but all of them nothing help to detect my cards. However, I tried to replace all riser with different version and now all cards are detected.

This riser doesnt work to me:

But this works to me but a bit pricey compared the above which around 2$.

Decided to end it with zer0 profit.
