Hello guys, a blessed weekend to you all!

I will try to make this topic as brief as possible, am a long term bitcointalk user but not often available here not until the past few days find needs to.

No doubt, Bitcointalk has millions of user's but from this millions of user's not up to 40 percent visit bitcointalk on weekly basis if not monthly. Am saying based on experienced.
I have friends that created btt account over 3years ago and they are professionals in the Crypto sphere, some are even in partner with most exciting booming blockchain project we are hearing about today, but this persons has never made up to 10 post on bitcointalk!

How did I know this?

Few days ago, I saw in search of a high ranked btt member that will help me published a post, so I thought of contacting my friends since they have a long age account, but to my greatest surprise they where all having newbies account, the person with highest activities is 7 activities!

At first I was pissed, then i later gave it a deep thoughts.

Bitcointalk is a hub for all Crypto enthusiasts, it's a starting point for anyone that want to get involved in blockchain and Cryptocurrency, but the platform is not as flexible as it ought to!

Most person find it difficult to find their way around after creating an account and this has led some persons abandoning their accounts after creating it.

For quick accessibility and flexibility for users, won't it be better to have Bitcointalk Mobile and desktop App?
Looking at the fact that it's easier to use a mobile app compared to a webpage.

When you have a mobile App installed on gadget, you're always reminded of the platform each time you scroll through your gadgets and it makes you visit the platform if not always but at least ones in a while.

What do you think about having a mobile app for bitcointalk?

This has been discussed quite a number of times to show most users would welcome such an addition. But the admins have not acted as yet, which could mean one of few things;
• They do not consider it a priority, meaning it could be done at a later time, or
• There are drawbacks, such as it affecting the launch of the new forum software we have been waiting on.
A mobile friendly browser modification could be a make shift solution and should not be that hard to create (I think). I have come across scripts for this, but wouldn't trust a 3rd party with my login details.

Most person find it difficult to find their way around after creating an account and this has led some persons abandoning their accounts after creating it.
While it could be a bore scrolling in and out especially on a mobile device and an app could help, I do not believe it can keep someone hooked. If they actually want to be a part of the community they would be able to navigate through. The proposed newbie welcome message would be useful in helping newbies settle in too.

I have apps on my phone which I have not opened in months cause I'm genuinely not interested in them right now. It's most probably more about interest than accessibility.

Perhaps you would be better off if you were to discuss the pros and cons by comparing the forum as it is on a browser compared to what could be achieved via an app.

I personally don't see the need for an app as I can log in quite easily on my mobile device and read/reply.

This is a good point. I once spent time developing an iOS Casascius Coin Analyzer app and Apple rejected it because they said it had no added functionality to: https://casascius.uberbills.com/ even though the app had tabs and things that were unique and I felt streamlined the user experience.

So if it was just a bitcointalk app that is essentially the same functionality as the mobile browser, Apple wouldn’t approve it anyway.

Desktop app will be used on desktop, laptop so it does not make big difference. Furthermore, the forum works good on web browser even with Tor browser.

Mobile app:
  • It can bring you an early impression that you can bring it everywhere but it is a tip of the iceberg.
  • In fact, the forum is a text-based forum, for discussions so that mobile app won't help to bring convenience when you are typing. It is much more easily to type with desktop or laptop. I know you can argue that with mobile devices, you can connect it with key board but please why do we need to bring key board to use mobile app?

What do you think about having a mobile app for bitcointalk?
No need for, IMO.

The forum has its version for mobile. Reminder: it is broken for tables.

What exactly do these friends of yours do? You said they are professionals. That makes me think they are somehow involved in the development/programming scene. If that is the case, what kind of developer doesn't work on desktop computers and multiple desktop devices to be precise? How are you going to get work done on a phone?

Maybe they are not developers, but professional traders and market analysts for example. Why would a trader prefer a small mobile device instead of extended desktops and multiple screens to do research on whatever they are working on?

I understand that some members would prefer a mobile app and I respect that. But it doesn't help in a professional work environment I think.

A feature I miss myself is integration with well known, already mainstream, forum apps. In my case, I would like to use bitcointalk seamlessly in my Tapatalk App from my phone, but it seems there are some incompatibilities. Maybe with the so much expected upgrade of the forum we are able to use it.

For me, it would be a much easier and convenient way to use Bitcointalk in my mobile phone, without having to develop an ad hoc app for that.

To answer your first question?

Flexibility:

Whether we want to accept the fact or not, bitcointalk is not user friendly at first use, as a new registered user you will have to spend some hours if not days before you can properly understand the platform.

Using myself as a case of study, I am not even sure if this thread/topic was post on the right section.
I only know that since it's not bitcoin related I can't post it on bitcoin section, same goes to altcoins section

Second; when creating a post, most of the tools article tool are not easy to understand, I have been try to add link to a text up till know no have not been able to achieve this.

Also when importing image to bitcointalk, if you're not familiar on how to use imurg.com and other related platforms, then importing an image is a big problem for you. These are just few on some of the challenges faced when using BTT

Basically and theoretically, I will say bitcointalk was developed for professional use from the onset.

To answer your second question

After creating an account, you don't get a notification message that your account has been created successfully, what you get is a error message telling you that there's an error in processing your request, but if you just created an account you should try to login that your account was created successfully.

Also, I noticed that when you create an account and your IP address is Africa, you're asked to send some amount of bitcoin to a given address before you can start making post on bitcointalk.

But When you use other continents IP address apart from Africa, you're giving direct access without asking you to send any bitcoin!

Every other contributions of yours are well taken!

Thanks for your consideration

Yes some are traders while others are products marketers
Am a trader as well and also a marketer, but 80% of my works I do then with mobile phone.
Am always on the road, mobile phone is very flexible to move around with, I may be in the market, worship center, school etc....
You can't take your computer around with you on every place you go, we now have power mobile gadgets that can do almost 80% of the work your computer do, the only difference is the resolution.

A mobile app can't change this feeling of yours in any way. The mobile app will still have the same sub-boards and sections.

Using myself as a case of study, I am not even sure if this thread/topic was post on the right section.
But if you were posting from a separate app, you would know that your post belongs to Meta Huh

Second; when creating a post, most of the tools article tool are not easy to understand, I have been try to add link to a text up till know no have not been able to achieve this.
Just copy/paste the link in your post or use the hyperlink button and hyperlink it.

After creating an account, you don't get a notification message that your account has been created successfully, what you get is a error message telling you that there's an error in processing your request, but if you just created an account you should try to login that your account was created successfully.
This is indeed weird and I thought they changed that long time ago.

Also, I noticed that when you create an account and your IP address is Africa, you're asked to send some amount of bitcoin to a given address before you can start making post on bitcointalk.
That is because of evil points. It's because users who had similar IP ranges as you abused the forum in various ways and got banned. To prevent them from coming back, the forum introduced evil points. Unfortunately it affects legit users as well who didn't do anything wrong.

I do not see how an app would solve this.
Every board is named to indicate what threads would fit into it. There are also short descriptions below the board title which summarizes this, except when the name does not need further explanation, like politics & society or B&H.

Second; when creating a post, most of the tools article tool are not easy to understand, I have been try to add link to a text up till know no have not been able to achieve this.
The HELP option would be useful for newbies and serves as a guide to basic forum navigation.
About adding a link to a text, that can be achieved using this code:
Code:
[url=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help]HELP[/url]
Replace the link and HELP text with yours.

Also when importing image to bitcointalk, if you're not familiar on how to use imurg.com and other related platforms, then importing an image is a big problem for you. These are just few on some of the challenges faced when using BTT
I suggest you get familiar with the search option. A quick search would offer solutions to this issue.

After creating an account, you don't get a notification message that your account has been created successfully, what you get is a error message telling you that there's an error in processing your request, but if you just created an account you should try to login that your account was created successfully.
How is this a problem, and how would an app solve it? It clearly asks you to log in if you tried creating an account.

Also, I noticed that when you create an account and your IP address is Africa, you're asked to send some amount of bitcoin to a given address before you can start making post on bitcointalk.
This is not peculiar to Africa, it's evil IP which is used to dissuade banned users from creating new accounts, check out this explanation from the admin - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=711968.msg8044683#msg8044683
i understand it could be offsetting to legitimate members and the whitelisting option may not be available to everyone. But the fee is kept low and would also go into copper membership payment if the user plans to get that (IIRC). Those other locations with easier access have a relatively lower evilness associated with the IP.

The forum is not the most efficient at the moment and that is a discussion for another thread. I personally do not think an app would solve most of these situations.

Guy please hear me out, am not debating that the mobile app will solve any problem here, what am basically saying is that it might help solve some existing issue such as.

When ever you want to visit the forum all you just have to do is one click on your app and you're good to go.

And also the mobile app can be in form of a simplify version of the btt

This topic of bitcointalk app has been discussed many times before but people only posted some ideas and nobody made it so far.
Let us first check some other big forum examples and if they are using any mobile apps, and keep in mind that any mobile app for bitcointalk will probably be extra vulnerable for some kind of attacks and account hacking.

With mobile devices that are easier to do your works as you said but which works do you plan to do with your mobile devices? (You don't need to answer me because it is your privacy and private purposes).

As I discussed above, with mobile, typing is always inconvenient and annoying, time-wasting. So for any app, Facebook, Twitter, Telegram, Slack, it is always worse when you work on mobile. If you need a mobile app to quote, share, make multiple posts, it is not good for the forum (as spam advertisement). Make multiple posts in multiple boards break rules.

I wouldn't consider no app reason for your friends leaving, website works fine wherever you have Internet and the telegram quote/mention notifiers make up for missing functionality on forum.

Am a trader as well and also a marketer, but 80% of my works I do then with mobile phone.
