I have few questions about modding graphic cards

1. Is there any negative effects after Bios modding your graphic cards?
2. Will bios mod shorten the life span of a new graphics card?
3. If you have bios mod your graphics card how many years have you been mining with the card?

No, if your gpu is dual bios, if you messes up the primary bios then you have the secondary bios to save you. You should never buy gpus with a single bios regardless if you mine or not because shit happens even if you do not try to modify the bios.

Something bad might happen if you flash the wrong modded bios for a particular graphic card, I knew more than two people who got themselves in this shit and only one was able to revive his graphic card back due to dual bios switch on his graphic card

It depends on the bios that you plan to use, they are different in clock speed and if speed is too high for a particular gpu brand it can keep crashing after few hours of running, I had a old hd6990 that has dual bios button, I used this card for lots of experiments that's how I figure out that not all bios are good for a particular brand

If you want to flash a a particular brand gpu for example like MSI make sure that the mod bios is for MSI brands only, don't go and flash a Zotac bios on a MSI graphic card, this is where problems of rebooting or overheating will occur

Not all gpus have dual bios switch and that shouldn't be the reason not to buy cards, I have over 12 RX580 and only 4 have dual bios switch on them and still I managed to flash all of them right, it's all about been cautious and find a better bios flashing tutorial, you can see one or two on youtube

Like i already said, shit happens even if you are cautions, dual bios is the safer bet.

It's hard to answer this question because the right thing to do is study the project, components, and only manufacturers and a couple of specialists can answer correctly, but we can try, based on experience and good sources of reliable information (like here in this forum)

If you modify the bios, you will change the straps, and you'll probably do the maximum overclock you can achieve, so it's above the manufacturer specs (already tested and realiable to sell and lasts some years), it's unknow territory
Another thing is you'll probably do undervolt and run in a good temperature, so you'll run 24 hours but with lower specs of standard, this is good

As we can see here in forum, we have users still using hawaii cards R9 290, Polaris cards modified (RX 470, 480 etc) and it's running for years, so it's pretty safe to do and run 24h

You have to consider some things: Take care when flashing the bios, be sure it's the right version, best to do with dual bios cards and there's a chance to brick your card, it's hard, but it's real and can happen
You'll also lose warranty, unless manufacturers don't have the tools to check if you change the bios.

You don't have to be a specialist to flash the correct bios for a certain graphic card it's easy as piece of cake, you can also use Hive OS, this mining OS have inbuilt bios flasher and it will recommend the best safest Bios for your graphic card, I guess this is safer than other methods out there

I didn't say you have to be specialist to flash the bios, the question here is: Bios modification have negative effects?
So, to answer this correctly, you have to go deeper and have to know how your GPU works (memory, PCB, Capacitors, Fans etc)

I tried to explain better than only: just download the bios and flash

Can you answer the questions OP asks?

About lifespan and negative effects of bios mod?

For my experience - the only problem is to burn GPU during flashing. In this way you need correct BIOS, stop miner and patience to wait till the end of the process. May be you`ll have to install special drivers. Thats all.
All my flashed GPUs work as usual, i dont see any problems with them.

PS. The own problem i found all the time - fans change percentage: i set 50%, they really works at 30%

Bios modding don't have negative effects on the gpu life span, and most bios have seen only automatically adjust frequency, power and clock for better performance, this can't kill the graphic cards unless you mistakenly flashed a wrong bios number, even if this happens there are tutorials about how to revive them.

good question, in my experience, bios editing with default bios its safe, gpus cannot force under minimum vcore and automaticly run on minimum vcore, but dont try  oc to max limit

and flashing other model eg. 7950 to 7970 , 280 to 280x, causing some gpus fail in long run, but in 3years using vega56 flashed to vega64 nothing bad happen except faillure fan driver (maybe because fan shorting, not by bios upgrade)

To flash the right bios for a gpu make sure you download the correct gpu brand, I made such mistake with an expensive gpu in 2017 and it failed to display, no matter what I tried and I have to abandoned for a year, after watching few videos on youtube I was able to bring it back to life

First of all - save your original BIOS. This can help you to recover your GPU after any mistake. When i tried to flash P104 - it helped me a lot.

Bios modification is straight forward if you get the right tools, also make sure that you flash the right bios number for your graphic card, if not the display will go black, even if you manage to brick the graphic card there are ways to fix them

The BIOS modification of the video card increases the memory frequencies, which leads to an increase in temperature and an increased load on the cooling system.
RX 470 and AMD analogs have served for more than 4 years, it is not known how long the resource of modern cards will last.
