Hi All,

I was hoping someone could help me please. I recently updated my Mac software to Big Sur and I have money in my Bitcoin wallet and unfortunately every time I try launching Bitcoin core it does not connect and I get an error message saying  an update is required contact developer ( I have latest version downloaded of BItcoin core) and it also says apple can’t open cause it can’t detect if it has malicious software.

Could someone help please as I have monies in my wallet I can’t access now...

If contacted apple support and they don’t know what to do.

Any advise would be helpful and appreciated.

Regards

Can you locate your debug.log and post the relevant text here (eg the last instance you ran). It'll be in your data directory.

Location of data directory can be found here: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/1350/where-is-bitcoin-information-wallet-dat-stored-on-os-x

You might have missed it, but please read: [READ BEFORE POSTING] Tech Support Help Request Format

Then please adapt the format providing the relevant information.
I'd be interested in screenshots showing the message as well as the version of core you are using.

Are you sure you have the latest version of Bitcoin Core from the official website? It sounds like your Bitcoin Core version is out of date and doesn't work on Big Sur.

1. Download the Mac OS version of bitcoin core from https://bitcoin.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.20.1/bitcoin-0.20.1-osx.dmg
2. Download the checksums used for verifying downloads: https://bitcoin.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.20.1/SHA256SUMS.asc
3. Open a Terminal and go to the folder that you downloaded Bitcoin Core in (should be in Downloads or something) and run sha256sum bitcoin-0.20.1-osx.dmg. Then open the SHA256SUMS.asc file, and make sure the checksum on the line bitcoin-0.20.1-osx.dmg matches the checksum on the Terminal.

If all is good and they match then you are using an authentic Bitcoin Core binary. If the hashes don't match then you might have downloaded malware and you need to download again from bitcoin.org.

Then you can run it and it should show you your funds again.
