Your intentions night be good, but this is not a good idea, imo. Giving merits to newies solely on their punctuality or response on a thread could breed spammers and give them the much needed one merit to allow them rank up and evade the newbie restrictions.

If you wish to do a merit giveaway, you should have your criteria which you would use to separate well meaning newbies from spammers or you can just quickly browse around the forum and find good posts to merit

You may want to say in the op you only want to merit posts that are of reasonable quality, eg constructively adding to discussion or creating a thread that invokes such responses.

Great initiative on Christmas day.

However, it would be better if the criteria for earning merit is to have a post that is of good quality and not merely on a first come first serve basis. If it's based on a good quality post, it's a win-win situation. They get to earn a merit and the forum has quality post in it. Rather than hurrying up to post here and just create a spam.

The intention is good but the problem is we do not tolerate giving merits to the lower rank easily by this kind of event or just a gift, for sure some of the members will abuse this kindness just to earn easy merit. Still its better to hold your sMerit and give it to the real one who deserves but if you still really want to give better to visit

Your intention are good. It’s Christmas and sharing of gift and pleasantries is allowed. But we shouldn’t forget the purpose of giving merit. Merit should be given to those who deserve it and not for the naughty joe.

Your ambition is really nice, to uplift people or distributes merit as a Christmas bonus I really appreciate because its a welcomed development, I will like to encourage you because you have much time in the forum, do not be sentimental or segregate one another, giveaway merit is based on quality, a well constructive post that deserved merit, not all posts should be merited, and besides you have not reach the extend to giveaway merit if I'm not mistaking. A first come first serve bases is basically an abuse of the merit system, it's the same thing as giving out merit just for the sake of it or for fun. Not even coins or tokens are permitted to be given away that way. You do not create a good intension based on violating forum rules. That's our base, that's why the forum remains unshaken to this day due to it's strick rules.
Gifting out merit isn't a bad thing but, it should be based on contributions and not just first come first half hours be away. Most times, it offers you@OP the opportunity to discover informations or threads that just might have skipped you and that way, your updated.
