So as you probably know ETH DAG size is nearing 4GB (3.99GB right now), my GPUs are 8GB but my rig has 4GB memory stick installed. Now it's started giving me problems "cannot create DAG...", and I couldn't find it on google, but does the computer's memory matters for DAG? Or the problem is elsewhere?

you need to increase the virtual memory page size.

I have, since the very beginning (more than 3 years ago) it's at 34000MB, I think it's plenty, isn't it?

experienced it with windows 7, 1080ti goes down to 18MH after i added another 2gb (system is 6gb), it is back to normal..try adding system ram.

increasing virtual memory did not work for me...

today rigs with 6gb and 8gb system ram returned to 18MH, but it is now a miner software issue, the fix is gminer 2.38

ddram issue with dag is only when there is no more space on the ram, so your issue is not ddram if you already have enough virtual memory. It might be miner software or os since your gpus are all 8gb.

I've been "out of the game" lately, what are most popular ETH mining softwares these days? I've been using Claymore v15.0

edit: yes, think this will be the culprit, just found this:

Quote
Latest version is v15.0 - Supercharged Edition:

- now miner supports up to #384 epoch (4GB DAG size)

so claymore miner is dead  Shocked

Yup so it was the mining software. Just set up Phoenix miner and it's running fine, a bit slower but not by much, we'll see what my pool reports, if my hashrate avg. will drop.  Wink Thanks everyone.  Kiss

I actually had a similar issue years ago when DAG was less than 2GB. I was building rigs and a few of them had only 2GB of ram. The virtual memory was something large like 32GB. However when the DAG was over 2GB I would get errors with 3GB cards.

So as a last resort I decided to try Linux and surprisingly worked. However it didn’t work with windows 7 or 10 or whichever OS i used back in 2016. So try and have at least 5Gb of ram these days to avoid this issue or try Linux.

yeah...some of my rigs have ddr2 2gb, when errors appear i added another 2gb (4gb total system ram) to fix issue....now added another 2gb because 1080ti is 18MH (6gb total system ram). now everything is normal again.

For some it works when they add extra ram space but for me the solution is using other Ethereum miner, I use Nicehash and it never have such DAG problem, I even mix 4gb memory gpu with 8gb and it still works, mining and performance can be a real pain in the ass

Add more ram space, I've confirmed that this works for many through reddit platform, if you can change the miner to phoenix miner you can get better result too, I've seen some miners fixing the problem by changing to another Ethereum mining software
