Bitcoin.org need your support ?!

I read this request when I visited https://bitcoin.org/en/ which gives the following notice: Bitcoin.org is a community funded project, donations are appreciated and used to improve the website.



Is not this forum and https://bitcoin.org have the same funding? I remember that there were about 500 BTC collected for the forum ? which one Bitcoin.org or bitcointalk?why not use them in development and leave donations an option.

At the request of Sirius, who owns bitcoin.org and the server this forum is hosted on, I have moved forum.bitcoin.org to bitcointalk.org. This is the final result of a long email discussion among many developers, exchange operators, etc. I have always been opposed to the move, but Sirius wanted to act according to consensus.

The forum was the only thing on bitcoin.org except for a few static pages, so I don't feel like we've lost too much by separating from it.

I doubt money would do as much either. There are probably enough developers that could program parts of it for much smaller donations.

And as @Mbitr points out, the ownership of the two domains was split quite recently.



I support the idea of not giving too much to stuff unless they're desperate - it can make the funds go further and also not get wasted.

Forum is now fully separated from Bitcoin.org. So, the admin directly can't spend forum funds for Bitcoin.org. But admin could donate on behalf of this community. The below quote is a quite clear explanation.

I no longer have any access to the bitcoin.org domain name, and Cøbra no longer has any access to the bitcointalk.org domain name. The two sites should be viewed as totally separate, which in practice they have been for years.

what will be done with these 500 Bitcoins?

Only admin knows, perhaps these funds will use for development as well. Who knows if the fund distributes among forum contributors in near future
