Are there unpaid moderators?

I understood mods are paid. So its obvious, why no new mods are added.

Leads me to the question: Are there any unpaid (subforum) moderators?

If no: Is there a chance the creation of a new position/job as "unpaid moderator" aka
"voluntarily non contract moderator" is possible?

Theymos clearly stated that Moderators are not employees.

The forum sells ad space in the area beneath the first post of every topic page. About 25% of ad income goes to the forum moderators as thanks for all of their work. (There are many moderators, so each moderator gets only a small amount -- moderators should be seen as volunteers, not employees.) The rest is stored in the forum's treasury (verifiably), where it sits until the forum needs it.

You can see all staff on members list (sort by Position).

AFAIK if a moderator didn't write BTC address on signature or forum profile he can't get paid that month.

This. Money is not a factor in deciding whether we take on more moderators, since the pay is not supposed to be used as a living wage that can be depended on. The pay mainly exists so that there's less moderator turnover, because finding new mods that can be trusted is quite a bit of work. Well, that and to keep the mods from rioting over not seeing any part of the millions of dollars the forum has...

Report posts! If you can provide a recommended course of action in the report, all the better. Don't worry about being accurate all of the time, since only staff members have access to the more specific policies (this is to prevent internet-lawyering where people purposefully find loopholes in our policies). We know that you'll get better once you have access to that. Generally, the policies boil down to removing spam, removing off-topic posts, and moving thread to the correct board for their topic. Most notably, on-topic trolling is usually okay here, so don't report instances of that.

If you find yourself receiving a bunch of reports flagged as bad, feel free to make a post on this board or contact a global moderator and we can let you know how to improve.

Really, the only downside to being a moderator is dealing with the report queue. That's the only thing that actually feels like "work" (which I'm happy to deal with since we are paid). Finding things to moderate in the wild from threads that you're already reading is much more enjoyable. In fact, I originally became a global mod because I was reading most of the boards already and reporting issues I found. Theymos thought it would make more sense to cut out the middleman and give me the power to moderate everywhere directly.

Convince us that it's better to cut out the middleman for you and you'll be made a moderator.
