Lately, I often see some members write something on the topic of Bitcoin in their threads, and then the topic turns into some altcoin. Given that we have altcoins board it is logical that such discussions should take place there, but what to do in case we have something like this? My Bitcoin Price Prediction $133K for 2021 and Yours?
My minimum accurate price prediction for Bitcoin is $133K for upcoming events happening in 2021, The max I can expect is around $140K. There could be miner -1% to -2% error while predicting bitcoin. What is your prediction regarding bitcoin for 2021?
For Altcoins, I am choosing this time ADA only and my ADA prediction is around $11 per token in 2021 bull run, Which coin do you choose and what is your prediction regarding that token?
Does it make sense to report a post like this because it’s not completely on the wrong board? Maybe moderators could just edit the post and delete the part about altcoin?

I'd just call it bitcoin related tbh. You can go off on a tangent as long as its not the main substance of it.

Mods DO NOT edit posts. And most mods aren't even allowed to (that'll be reserved for the 5 "admin" users afaik - the ones who can moderate PMs).

I do not think moderators will be able to edit posts like this. Although, not perfect how altcoins are involved, the topic is both bitcoin and altcoin topic which I think in my opinion to be still able to fit into bitcoin board so far bitcoin is emphasized on and is the main part of the topic. But, this leave to be left to other members, especially the ranked members, to correct the OP to post only bitcoin related posts to bitcoin boards. And during replying, I think it will be good to reply more of bitcoin which will later make the thread good and fit into bitcoin discussions.

To me that topic looks more suitable for altcoin discussion. It's true that he started the topic with bitcoin prediction, but then he goes on about altcoin, and even asking "Which coin do you choose and what is your prediction regarding that token?".
But then again, all replies there are focused on bitcoin, as far as I can see no one bothered to give altcoin prediction so it would be kinda unfair to move it there. Have you tried contacting the OP so he removes that altcoin part of his post?

the whole topic is complete trash and belongs only to signature spamming, no matter is it Bitcoin or Altcoin section. that's what signature campaign managers should take care of posts from topics like that, whether to count posts from there or not. Most often no one even reads it and very often goes into a completely off topic. Usually, I do not report such posts I suppose moderators tolerate this kind of tinny spam

Bitcoin board discussion should be strictly bitcoin related and anything else that bring in altcoins should disqualify such post to be on the bitcoin boards. Alt board on the other hand can have some bitcoin related discussion since the industry can't survive without bitcoin and their discussion revolves around bitcoin. The above thread is just some cheap publicity stunt from the OP to promote their fav alt imo. If I was in the position of the moderators I would just delete the post that's if the option to move it to the altcoins board is out of the picture. We have numerous posts like this and all are saying the same thing. The mod we'll be doing the board more good than harm in deleting the thread before spammers used the thread to feast. Have you tried contacting the OP so he removes that altcoin part of his post?
Doubt if this will come out positive as you're assuming. The user constantly look for a way to bring altcoins related discussion to the bitcoin board, e.g here's another topic he has created, I am not investing in Bitcoin, I am staying with Altcoins
Why I am choosing altcoins is because bitcoin is now too much volatile and there is too much hype regarding Bitcoin, Altcoins will be recovered soon and will be hitting to new highs, but in case of Bitcoin, We are not sure that when this bubble explodes. Since we are not sure, investment in altcoin is only the safest option.

Most of the part of this post regarding Bitcoin I think. Posting on the Bitcoin discussion board doesn't mean we can't write something related to altcoins. Also, the thread currently showing on the speculation board, I don't know if it was on another board during making your post. So, for me, it doesn't necessarily report to moderators unless the post is totally spam. Not sure if moderators have the right to edit a post, but I don't think they will edit even have the power to do that. They are quite busy to prevent spam.

I wouldn't call it spam, he's just too optimistic these will be same people who will call BTC dead when it corrects hard. Then this is forum is full of optimists... Almost everyday I see topics with identical content appear. The usual poster is a Full Member with 100 merit or lower rank that earned <5-10 merit in 2 years. They usually post "I think that <insert cryptocurrency name> will reach <$ price> in <this year/next year>. Without giving any explanation. Usually such "thought" or "predictions" are unreal. Like Ripple price be 12$ next year (that makes me smile), or Bitcoin be <current price plus 500/1000$>. What is the point of filling forum with such topics? Useless bytes of information.

Not only seeding altcoins in Bitcoin discussion board but the user spams with similar speculation topics. You can very easily see it by visiting his post, topic history. Does it make sense to report a post like this because it’s not completely on the wrong board?
Report for sure but I'd prefer to report to temp ban that user. I know one report on one spam topic won't cause a temp ban but if the user does it many times, a temp ban is possibly applicable.

Technically, moderators are able to edit posts.
I was sure that the admins could do it, thanks for confirming that the moderators can do it too. As for the specific post, I will try to report it with an editing request, so we will see what happens.

The user in this case does not have a paid signature, so it is impossible to go in the direction of reporting to the manager, and even if it is possible I do not see how this would be a solution to the problem.
What is the point of filling forum with such topics? Useless bytes of information.
It is not a problem that someone writes something, as long as it is in accordance with the rules of the forum - and that would include that the user knows what belongs to which board. The user we are talking about in his signature asks for donations, and obviously considers his work worth rewarding.

I'm familiar with his work, and from what I've seen, he's not someone who pays attention to details and facts - he claims that there are only 6 billion people in the world

I've seen a couple of times consecutive posts concatenated into one, operation done afaik by the mods. ...Just in case you needed one more confirmation that this possible Unfortunately the topic is a mix between Bitcoin stuff and altcoin stuff, and as long as the Bitcoin part is in it, it's OK. (Even myself I've posted things like "if you don't like Bitcoin tx fees then use Dogecoin"). The replies only on the altcoin part, on the other hand, may not be suitable for that board, but if you report those it's up to Mod to decide, since they're probably on-topic.

~~~ What is the point of filling forum with such topics? Useless bytes of information.
As long as no rules are broken, every user is free to post something according to the board on which he writes. OP, I have tried checking most of the answers contained in that thread, I am very sure that most of the user's answers only refer to bitcoin although one or two users also mentioned altcoin. In my opinion there is nothing wrong because maybe bitcoin will continue to be compared with altcoin especially about the price. However, you can still report the thread to a moderator for follow up if you think the post is categorized as spam. Let the moderator take action or you can also ignore the thread and the user so you will never see the post again. The user we are talking about in his signature asks for donations, and obviously considers his work worth rewarding. Just put that user on the ignore list if you really don't like him. This will save you more energy for more useful things.
Nah, I don't think a post like that is so off-topic that it's worth reporting. The main gist of that one in particular was a prediction of bitcoin's price, and the altcoin stuff just looks like an afterthought. I don't think any mention of altcoins should be disallowed in the main sections of the forum, as long as said mention doesn't make up the majority of a given post (or if it's completely off-topic).
Mods might feel differently, and it's really up to them if a post like the one here gets reported. IMO it just adds to their workload when there are many, many more posts that should be deleted because of their low quality.
Does it make sense to report a post like this because it’s not completely on the wrong board? Maybe moderators could just edit the post and delete the part about altcoin? I don't think there's rules about it but maybe they should be moved to the alt coin section if they involve coins other than bitcoin. You could quite easily abuse it if this became commonplace. Mention bitcoin even somewhat cursory then shill whatever shitcoin you want as an apparent after-thought. I've seen people do something similar in Meta. Create a thread about something vaguely forum related then start whining about something completely irrelevant that's annoyed them in the same post. I'd just call it bitcoin related tbh. You can go off on a tangent as long as its not the main substance of it.
Mods DO NOT edit posts. And most mods aren't even allowed to (that'll be reserved for the 5 "admin" users afaik - the ones who can moderate PMs). I think any mod can edit a post as long as they have jurisdiction in that subsection. Sometimes editing something out is preferential rather than trashing the whole thing. The alt coin talk could certainly be edited out in this instance, or the post moved to the alt section.
That's why I asked this question, because although some may not notice it actually often happens and serves to shill some altcoins mostly in the Bitcoin discussion. But mostly it's about threads that can be a report as a low quality/off-topic - as you say some do it in a way that consciously or unconsciously promotes altcoins where such things certainly have no place. I think any mod can edit a post as long as they have jurisdiction in that subsection. Sometimes editing something out is preferential rather than trashing the whole thing. I reported this post yesterday with a request to edit or move, it still stands as unhandled. Of course, it should be emphasized that this board does not have an assigned moderator, so this is certainly another aggravating thing.
Any "regular moderator" can use the button in the sections for which he is responsible I do not like to change content. Normally I only intervene if the formatting is incorrect in multiple quotes, if a source is incorrectly specified or illegal links are spread. So it is not always completely deleted. But I try to make as few changes as possible to posts that are not from me.
We need to get back to the strict moderation which was actually followed in the late 2019 as well as the early 2020 but now spams started to take over the bitcoin discussions again, probably not much active reporters are active in such sections. IMO, simply ignore those kind of threads which are created with no real intention which can benefit the community.Once we stopped feeding those trollers then they will eventually fade away after some time.
