I don't know if this has already been discussed or even if it's a good idea, so I just wanted to make that clear from the start.

After this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5303500.0 was resolved - I had an idea about getting more new and inexperienced users to read the stickies.

The suggestion is to add threads like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=133931.0 , https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0 to the "News Rotation", or whatever it is called; the spot above the navigation bar that says "Latest Bitcoin Core release" and "Bitcoin Community Awards".

This gives newcomers more of a chance to see these important threads before they jump into anything headfirst, without being overly obstructive.

My suggestion to pin the Welcome message in Meta, Beginners & Help failed and from the community discussion and hilariousandco's opinion, I support the idea to add the Welcome message in the News Rotation.

The Bitcointalk Community Award results should be removed as it was done last week (and not yet mention the validity for the vote contest).

The Welcome message can be edited as some members want to see its shorter version but I'd like to add a few helpful threads in that message. It can be overwhelming for some newbies but some will use it. Fundamentally, such documents are for future good members, not for shitposters and lazy members.

I like the idea, but it may not be a priority now.
The Bitcointalk Community Awards, which has been concluded for a while is still being displayed, this could indicate that the admin does not have the time to properly manage the 'news rotation', so adding multiple threads at the same time would be a lot of work to ensure the information being given is updated.

Iirc, emergencies which affects Bitcoin users gets posted there from time to time. But posting regular, useful stuff (like how to sign a message) would not count as 'news', but rather recommendations of which threads to read.

I think it's a good idea. The rules need to be more prominent or easy to find, especially for new users. I've even suggested before that we put some of the most important ones as warnings at the top of certain sub boards so they get drilled into users, which are maybe only shown to newbies or can be turned off once you're a Junior or a Member or something.

There's plenty of staff that could do this, though only admins have access to the news feed but I don't think it would be difficult to give access to certain ones (though maybe theymos doesn't want to as potential security risk but that would be low). I think more workload should be delegated amongst staff as things tend not to get done or get delayed for ages and put on the backburner when there's probably a good chunk of things some of the other current mods could do.

I think it's a good idea, it's easy to implement, and it doesn't need a lot of adjustments from the admin.
It is better to be in the form of a warning that certain topics must be read, and they differ when visiting each board, for example, when we visit the MarketPlace section, it is a reference to a specific topic.

Also, "More" contains a lot of good topics, but it is difficult to find them. I hope that the color will change or add a number in front of it when the user logs in.

I support the idea to add the Welcome message in the News Rotation.

I like the idea

I think it's a good idea.

I think it's a good idea

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that thinks this would be a decent idea.

An alternative could be to have a "Warnings:" Rotation, floating to the right of the "News:" Rotation.

The Bitcointalk Community Award results should be removed as it was done last week

It might even be a good idea if the News Rotation is decided by a monthly poll or something like that.

There's plenty of staff that could do this

The community could have more involvement, it would remove most of the leg-work and hopefully some staff member could maintain the list once a month.

suchmoon and BPIP team have good initiatives and tools

Those are some nice features, but I do my best to avoid using anything that strays from the default functionality of the forum.
It makes it easier for me to understand how the forum works for everyone if mine works the same as "everyone's".
