The Carolina Panthers will pay half of Russell Okung's $13 million contract for 2020 in Bitcoin, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The two-time Pro Bowler signaled his desire in May 2019 to be compensated in the form of the popular cryptocurrency and confirmed he got his wish...

After reviewing some of Okung's tweets, he appears to be quite the bitcoin bull, and backing it up by requesting half his 2020 salary in bitcoin.

If this is true, then the traction of adoption of Bitcoin is moving in a linear path. If others start the way he allocated some of his salary in bitcoin, we will see more surge in the coming years. I would like to imagine how Bitcoin and crypto entire market will react if top football start like Messi and Ronaldo take this path, it will be crazy pump of days and week before the the pump will cool down.
Who knows if they are secretly doing it already, imagine top players in every football club own at least a bitcoin, the demand will be super active with less supply just the way PayPal is buying almost all the bitcoin that are mine everyday.

Already few leagues were sponsored by sports betting platforms with cryptocurrency acceptance. Even few teams had placed the bitcoin logo on the sleeve. Some way positive news associated to bitcoin and the sports sector is getting rolled often. Now NFL player getting paid in terms of bitcoin is quite interesting and this can make more players follow the same form of salary.

Its indeed interesting!

Just be sure that those player do know the risk and considering on how many millions that they had made some conversion out of their salary then they should prepared to see
neither green or red into their portfolios but well its impossible that they arent aware with that scenario or possibility.

This is a good advertisement though yet any exposure or actions that involves Bitcoin would always be a good publicity.

That’s how supposed to be, it should be on the willingness of a person to receive Bitcoin as a payment or not, and this one proves that he knows Bitcoin and he believes on Bitcoin. I hope to see more athletes to agree on this kind of terms as well, I’m sure Bitcoin will grow more as we are slowly reaching the mass adoption.

It seems that this player, Russell Okung is also a crypto enthusiast.  Probably he already knows what is Bitcoin and he said from his tweet that he wants to free from fiat which is a being realistic choice.

This another points to Bitcoin that brings awareness to people and those who supported this player.  I hope there's someone who will educate them on the possible risk of holding Bitcoin.

There are different institutions now was aware of Bitcoin not only in sports.

Yeah, he actually displayed a better understanding of crypto from those few tweets than most people display on these boards. As for risk, I would gather that he knows the risk of holding extensive bitcoin, but also, as someone making $13 million a year, he also has the means to bear the risk. Even if bitcoin goes to 0, his income is $6.5 million for 2020. He'd still be fine.

Yeah, this is some crazy news, and if you consider how many new whales are being created (I'm thinking of all those companies that bought bitcoin, like Grayscale and MicroStrategy), you have to wonder if there's enough bitcoin to go around.  True, you can split a BTC down to a single satoshi, but if demand keeps growing like this, that one satoshi is going to be worth quite a bit.

I'd also say that Russell Okung has just given bitcoin some great publicity by doing this.  He must be seriously bullish on it to want to take half his salary in bitcoin.  It's risky as hell, but I respect such a ballsy move.

Seeing as the talks were already being made back in 2019, you can see that he's already quite the enthusiast. You can already be assured that he isn't one that was persuaded by the immediate profits brought by the bullrun we've had recently, and well, it is quite an interesting thing since this opens up the Bitcoin as a salary option. It was always a possible option, but we all know how there are some limitations that Bitcoin brings about that make this difficult, such as buying the coin itself to pay the workers, when they can freely do so in fiat with the already set up system they have. But hey, I do hope that it could be integrated at least, as an option.

With more and more celebrities promoting the wonders of bitcoin, I think that it will be a matter of time before mass adoption arrives. I hope that this endorsements will not harm bitcoin and its users in the future. Integration will be difficult because the prices is unstable and their salary could go down anytime the price drops and the employers will have a difficult problem of matching the employee's retirement fund with bitcoin, if volatility is solved then the next step will be pretty obvious and far more easier.

Good news to hear. Can't believe that they decide to pay a salary in bitcoin for this guy. His wish has been granted. His money has been used for quite a good investment. Bitcoin will never betray you if you have a decent understanding of it. Though It is kinda risky cause the price of bitcoin can be dumped at any time, this man swipes it away and I very much appreciate that. If the number of people (especially people who are famous) keeps increasing, Bitcoin mass adoption will soon become truth

More and more celebrities enjoy having bitcoin. This surely makes bitcoin spread widely over the planet. Without any hesitation, you should buy bitcoin for yourself. What are you waiting for?

With its good value and ease of the system, many have begun to choose to use bitcoin, even to pay someone. bitcoin is starting to win people's hearts. A great move for bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

I think this is really something amazing if a famous person like Russell Okung will not only tweet about Bitcoin but will choose to take such a large salary in it as payment too.

This is a historical announcement and it will be even a bigger deal when a player from Euro leaguess begin to request Bitcoin as their payments.

What is going to be a real good reaction from his teammates if the Bitcoin price continues to be a Bull run and his salary is worth more then when he was paid it.  Maybe they will choose to take their salaries in Bitcoin also.

He needs to hold his payment in bitcoin and waiting for the right time to sell at a high price. I am sure he will make a lot of money more than his salary when the bitcoin price increases. But I hope he can learn more about bitcoin so he does not panic when the price drops. He needs to prepare to get his bitcoin in a safe wallet, so he will not get any future problems.

Many athletes and sports personalities are really into bitcoin or at least crypto so it's just about time that we include NFL as well. I think he knows the risk here that's why he requested a 50/50, fiat/BTC payment as salary.

And this may set a precedent to other NFL players as well, so I guess this is really a good and welcoming news, and it could really influence others, even those billionaire owners can rethink how bitcoin could be a good investment to grow their wealth even more.

It is an example of a person's refusal of a certain idea to adopt another idea or a different theory in economics. Some companies have started accepting bitcoin in protest against some of the changes that governments have made that they do not like.
We hear positive news when the price changes to higher and when I hear from this news, I am not surprised because the price is high and everyone will think bitcoin will increase because what happened in the past was a good rise.

50/50, fiat/BTC will be best Dollar A C to buy more bitcoin.

Hope he is did that for good reasons rather than just to make quick money from the bull run.
Good reasons to be doing that could be for diversification sake, to use Bitcoin as a store of value, etc.
Hopefully he has done his risk assessment and is certain the amount is worth investing

I saw this news too and it's very interesting fact that nfl player is into bitcoin and it could spark chain of adoption towards other players that will give them more payment option on their contracts. Salute to this man for the innovation and adoption.

Found this interesting:

Quote
The Carolina Panthers will pay half of Russell Okung's $13 million contract for 2020 in Bitcoin, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The two-time Pro Bowler signaled his desire in May 2019 to be compensated in the form of the popular cryptocurrency and confirmed he got his wish...

After reviewing some of Okung's tweets, he appears to be quite the bitcoin bull, and backing it up by requesting half his 2020 salary in bitcoin.

Wow that's really cool. I haven't read this before but this going to be a nice pay day for him in the future. Honestly if one of the athletes starts it won't be long until others are going to follow. For the NFL or the team it's not a problem, they can just buy the coins in the market and transfer them. It might be a problem in the future if you would have to buy them for the hole team. And for the athlete it's a great way to diversify out if the fiat money.
