After reviewing some of Okung's tweets, he appears to be quite the bitcoin bull, and backing it up by requesting half his 2020 salary in bitcoin.

If this is true then it will be a biggest news for bitcoin community. And this is one more positive step for bitcoin.
If all the nft community start by this way then we should thankful to nft community because they are helping a soo much to make this bitcoin more popular to more people. I know when more people know about bitcoin then we think more we are going to see more potential news about bitcoin. Though we know that still lots of educated people Don't know what is bitcoin. If this type of news comes out then we are going to see some more exciting on bitcoin.

If others start the way he allocated some of his salary in bitcoin, we will see more surge in the coming years. I would like to imagine how Bitcoin and crypto entire market will react if top football start like Messi and Ronaldo take this path, it will be crazy pump of days and week before the the pump will cool down.

Yeah, this is some crazy news, and if you consider how many new whales are being created (I'm thinking of all those companies that bought bitcoin, like Grayscale and MicroStrategy), you have to wonder if there's enough bitcoin to go around.  True, you can split a BTC down to a single satoshi, but if demand keeps growing like this, that one satoshi is going to be worth quite a bit.

I'd also say that Russell Okung has just given bitcoin some great publicity by doing this.  He must be seriously bullish on it to want to take half his salary in bitcoin.  It's risky as hell, but I respect such a ballsy move.

Sure, if you don't need the money, you can lock it up long term and just see what happens. I'm actually more impressed the team figured out how to pay him in Bitcoin and went through with it, because it just adds more steps in paying the player to have to go through the process of converting a significant amount of money into bitcoin so they can pay it to him.

I'm also wondering how he received the payment. Is he using personal addresses, and if so, how does he break it up among his addresses (lump sum to one, spread it out over many different addresses, etc.)? Is he set up to receive it through a Bitcoin custodian instead, like a Grayscale or Coinbase?  Very interesting.

So it looks like this NFL player will not be in fact paid his salary in Bitcoin but instead he will use a crypto startup called Strike to convert his salary to Bitcoin.
I am not familair with this app and I wonder if it would make more sense for him to buy his Bitcoins with Binance or another Exchange.  This is still big for Bitcoin to have him supporting it.

It seems that he's interested in bitcoin and good for him to get his wish of getting paid in bitcoin. If it was me, I would also want to receive my salary in bitcoin. As long as you know how the market works, it's fine getting paid in bitcoin. Also, I find it nice that he's open towards his want for Bitcoin in his social media accounts and it's good because it can gain the attention of the public as well.

This has just being the begining of bitcoin going mainstream, it is so promising and becoming realistic. The bitcoin first trade was in 2010 while bitcoin has been growing gradually and now institutions joined. Now NFL player is paid in bitcoin through the lightning network. That has been the case with every other celebrity/sports personnel commenting about crypto and so on. Probably the guy himself knows nothing about what bitcoin is and how it works - I can bet on that. Social media comments are never done by the person whose name is on the account but social media managers (SMM). Just tell them to pump up the account with some bitcoin related stuff and pull up the media for such a stunt and you are good to go.

I truly love it! Now that he leads by example, I bet that others would be curious and may be following suit if he educates them very well about Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. He has a lot of influence, so I honestly think that some of his followers may start to learn more about Bitcoin and buy it.

Now considering the fact that the BTC , it did an amazing job in the year 2020 and have us all a new year gift in 2021 I do believe that it is actually an investment to be paid in BTC.

The guy didn't only increased the value of his salary but he did also allow authorities to publish the same information online which does mean that he did help the BTC community too when it comes to the terms of advertising this is all we have. The price ofcourse speaks for itself but having people with a fan following believe in it does wonders for the audience.

The teammates might to might not but we all do know that all of them are now regretting that they didn't take the same steps.

I do hope he makes a wise choice and decides to either hold or encash timely so that he does not make a mockery out of bitcoins and himself too. It is now in his possession, his salary and the opportunity to do what he wants with bitcoins therefore I hope it goes good.

If this true , that is because they are know about bitcoin and i think they use it for transact everyday. If thats report spreading fast in many media , that is the stepping stone that can make bitcoin popular in the world. Topic linked was in December so I assumed that it was in 2020. Wanting to be paid in BTC since 2019 - but did that come to reality in 2020 along with all the bitcoin pumping tweeting?

In any case I would classify this as a publicity stunt for gaining attention and so on, just like all those celebs back in 2017 during the ICO hype that pumped bitcoin.

If that is true though, then it is indeed sad that players are being made to accept things that they dont know about because their managers are the ones who actually run the PR. Sad truth of the sports industry in modern days.

Most guys in the NFL go broke because their spending habits and lavish lifestyle doesn't coincide with their actual salary. Good on this guy for diversifying his income and putting some towards BTC. I thought the entire team was paid in BTCitcoin. I am not a big NFL fan and hence i am not aware of these players but it looks like an individual requested to get paid his salary in BTCitcoin and it is a good proposition but right now the market is rallying and what happens if the market goes down, so i think it is a risky proposal.

What i would do is get the money and then invest according to my choice but what i speculate is that he asked to get paid in BTCitcoin to reduce the tax implication and if that is the situation it is a smart move.
