I think a very good decision was made by Russell Okung by asking for salary paid in Bitcoin. As the current Bitcoin price continues to skyrocket,
I believe Russell Okung will influence other NFL players to do the same. If more and more people ask for salary payments in Bitcoin, this could
make Bitcoin more acceptable to more people. The result will increase the Bitcoin price.

A few years ago, celebrity adoptions such as the one from Russell Okung would have made an impact at the cryptocurrency market. But now, with hundreds of millions of users and large number of mainstream companies accepting Bitcoin, it may not make much movement. But the fact is that Okung made the request two years back, in 2019. The media ignored it then. They are covering it now because the Bitcoin hype is back.

I would generally agree with this. Everything about bitcoin is being covered by the mainstream media right now because the price makes it newsworthy. It's hard not to cover it when it doubles in a month from what was at the time already an all time high.

Yep that's it, crypto related and most importantly mainstream media has been covering bitcoin like when set a new all time high and the whole market explodes. And also financial related websites, bitcoin is already hugging the limelight I would say together with gold and oil.

And maybe this is not the last time that an athlete wanted to be paid in bitcoin or at least in any crypto currency. Just like what we have seen in 2017 to early 2018 hype, more and more individuals including celebrities also FOMO.

Nothing to discuss much, NFL player have signed an agreement to get paid in bitcoin. Rather than the news about bitcoin as an accepted means, looking upon the salary I got astonished. Maybe more other players can take the same step forward looking over the growth of bitcoin happening. They doesn't need to think of investment and all, get paid as a form of investment as the growth happens for sure.

We all want BTC to grow, but we can't be certain about further growing. Russell Okung, although being bullish, didn't buy BTC with all his savings. Nor did he request his whole current salary in Bitcoin, but only a half of it. And that's a wise move on his side, economically speaking.

The discussion is related to his salary for the previous year (2020), when the exchange rates were generally low. For most part, Bitcoin was trading at $10,000 per coin. So in case Okung is receiving salary on a monthly basis, then the chances are that he is in a very good profit right now. Even if a correction occurs, I don't think that it will go much below 30K.

After reviewing some of Okung's tweets, he appears to be quite the bitcoin bull, and backing it up by requesting half his 2020 salary in bitcoin.

That would be a huge investment/salary that will be paid by Okung. Its clearly a good way to be paid and then later decide what to do with that money. This might also show other NFL players that Bitcoin is a good source of salary because of its versatility and might forever change the way of how famous people view Cryptocurrencies.

Yes, he was lucky this time, but the recent Bitcoin rise was never guaranteed, right? The fact that Russell Okung requested only a half of his salary in BTC says about him as of someone capable of good money management. It's not for nothing he studied in the Oklahoma State University and received Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing/Marketing Management. So far he is successful with working as his own agent, and everything indicates that he will be in the future.

So it's 7.5 Million dollars in bitcoin he will be paid in total. Thats a good choice if he wants to keep his BTC for the long term. Recently many celebrities tweet about getting paid in BTC after seeing massive growth in btc price in 2021. Crypto space makes a good impact and new trends took place that everybody wants to be paid in crypto.

You would  really expect  for some domino effect because other celebs will really be bit curious on what other co-celebs had been doing but for sure that most of them
will really react when they do saw that their portfolio is going down.Im not saying about  the negative aspects but this is indeed part of reality.
Although, this kind of acceptance of converting their pay to bitcoin is really a good advertisement to extent out global adoption
knowing that sports players are really being paid in big amounts. If this one will become a trend then that would really be giving out positive impact.

There is a reason why he chose to have his salary a portion in bitcoin. He's wise to know that he's receiving it in bitcoin. With those other celebrities tweeting and showing interest on getting paid in bitcoin, there is only one of them that I can remember most.

That's Elon Musk.

Plus think about all the big major companies going into crypto right now. Just grayscale alone spent over 10 billion dollars to buy bitcoins, and that is just one company, they got in early too and got it for cheap, the more companies like that get into bitcoin the more they will have to spend as well.

The more you buy bitcoin, the higher price of bitcoin goes, and you can't just end up buying 100 thousand bitcoins all at the market price, that is not going to work, which means you will have to increase the price while buying too. That is what he was betting on, he got paid in bitcoin and he will use that bitcoins to hold until those major companies start buying bitcoin or accepting bitcoin, just recently booking.com announced people can pay their vacations with bitcoin as well. All these combined means bitcoin has a very very bright future and that is what the player was wagering on when he wanted to be paid in bitcoin.

Funny but I'm a little bit confused why did he have to wait this long when he could have receive the salary in fiats and convert them to Bitcoin almost instantly on  the numerous exchange available or was he trying to pull a stunt here like been the first NFL player to receive his salary in bitcoin or something. You know this celebrities can do anything for clout or place their names in history.

Also probably he's trying to achieve something like more adoption as the news of his salary getting paid in bitcoin will definitely get the attention of other players and just maybe they join the trend too. Irrespective of what his intentions were, glad his wishes were full-filled making him potential millions in near future, I remember when 50 cent converted the album sales of one of his album to bitcoin and made millions later when the price appreciated.

Many people didn't consider bitcoin as a legit investment sector when its price was a few dollars. They have changed their opinion after the massive growth of bitcoin in recent years. They want to be paid in btc because they only saw the upside of bitcoin. Bitcoin is very volatile and not ideal for a monthly salary. But it's good for crypto that people want to accept it in daily life.

Found this interesting:

Quote
The Carolina Panthers will pay half of Russell Okung's $13 million contract for 2020 in Bitcoin, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The two-time Pro Bowler signaled his desire in May 2019 to be compensated in the form of the popular cryptocurrency and confirmed he got his wish...

Source: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2924583-russell-okung-to-be-1st-nfl-player-paid-in-bitcoin-65m-of-panthers-salary

After reviewing some of Okung's tweets, he appears to be quite the bitcoin bull, and backing it up by requesting half his 2020 salary in bitcoin.
In the future, we will definitely see more and more athletes who ask to be paid in popular coins...
The cryptocurrency era has begun to appear, people's trust in cryptocurrency begin to build. mass adoption insight.

Do you realize that this is just a marketing strategy? The news generated a lot of hype, but in reality Russell Okung was not paid in Bitcoins. His salary was credited in fiat currency (US Dollar). Here are more details:

https://www.theverge.com/2020/12/29/22205181/nfl-russell-okung-not-paid-bitcoin-debunk-carolina-panthers-cryptocurrency

Quote
Okung’s own team, the Carolina Panthers, also confirmed to The Verge that teams pay their players in US dollars.

Quote
By that standard, anyone can get their salary “paid in bitcoin” anytime they want: just go buy some bitcoin with your salary after it arrives, which is probably what the company that Okung is pumping — Zap — is hoping you’ll do when you see he’s repping it online.

Okung is not a big fan of cryptocurrency. He was creating this hype, in order to promote Zap/Strike, which is a Bitcoin-based payment processor.

For the first time I hear that football players receive their salaries in cryptocurrency. Why invest your assets in cryptocurrency at all, making millions of dollars a year? It will be very disappointing if a football player loses part of his salary due to the fall in bitcoin Cheesy

This says : NFL player ‘paid in Bitcoin’ as price nears $30,000

Bitcoin reached over $40,000, if he sold his bitcoin, that gives him a huge profit, or if his purpose is to hold longer, still good as bitcoin will eventually rise more. I think he should be prepared too if bitcoin will dump, I hope he is knowledgeable enough on bitcoin's volatility as we are talking of huge amount here.

There was a time when Bitcoins needed support from big personalities but it has now changed and big personalities feel themselves at pride when accepting Bitcoins as the payment.

I don't watch much NFL but I do watch a few games because I bet on them so I am not sure how big a player Okung is but 1m dollars must be for a big player and hopefully others follow the suit behind him and take part of their salary in Bitcoins.

Everyone is so happy and overjoyed when we are going through a bull-run makes me wonder if this is the same community at times when a bear run is going on.

This is a great start towards a public recognition and acceptance of bitcoin. The more famous people being open and supportive of the coin itself, the more will people be inspired and encouraged to take on bitcoin and inclhde it in their investment portfolio.

First of all, it's not compulsory, the players get to choose hoe they are paid and not the other way around. Secondly, the guy must have known what he's getting into to be confident in having his paycheck be in crypto, otherwise why would you do that. Thirdly, there are companies out there that give their employees the option to have a portion of their salaries be sent into an investment portfolio specifically for them, NFL League shouldn't be different.
