There is a new Paypal phishing campaign, this time its through SMS (short messaging system) or simply text message. So the modus of this cyber criminals is that you will be notified that you Paypal account has been permanently limited unless you again verify your account by clicking the link:

"PayPal: We've permanently limited your account, please click link below to verify,"

So again, do not fall for this kind of smishing campaign, they will get all your information and God knows what this criminals are going to do with that. And specially that Paypal join the crypto bandwagon, I'm sure we are going to be a target from his unscrupulous individuals.

Thank you for the warning. Personally, I have no account there and never experienced this type of scam, never received messages like this, so it is safe to assume it only works with PayPal users. How do scammers get the phone number with which you registered your real PayPal account? Were there any data breaches involving PayPal?

Hope this gets to newbies and those who are using PayPal, thanks for sharing, Ive stop to use PayPal since they implement crypto and few people got their account blocked for unknown reasons, either ways some are still using the platform, this might be useful for them

It's not exactly his account tho, it was taken from an article. Judging from the message format they can just send it freely and hope one of the recipients have a PayPal account and click the link. No data breaches are required to do that, maybe they just grab the phone number from social media or bought it somewhere.

Actually, I have never received anything from paypal via text message and often only notifications from email, I never clicked on anything because I know that there are often phishing messages that send via anything, including emails that we often encounter.
But I appreciate that I have shared this article so I know better that maybe other people as well as PayPal users should be more careful when the price is peaking, there are always ways to trick those who don't know about this.

I hope no one got victimized by that type of scam. I have received something to this type of thing as well. I'm not sure how they got my number but it texted me this content.

Take note of the let "l" in the URL. It's definitely a scam. This is one of the reasons I don't want to just give out my number because of these spam messages.

This smishing attack happens often in other industries too like in the banks. I wonder where these people are getting all our numbers. It's so hard to trust now which websites even the ones we're trusting could be part of it without noticing that there's a backdoor.

The hackers bait the user by threatening it with the permanent limitation of the account. Any people, specifically PayPal users could possibly respond and fill out their credentials on the website to resolve the issue. Thus, if you ever receive such a threat with your account, verify it to the customer service number of the company to ask for proper assistance. Regardless, we should be careful and learn to investigate before sharing any information.
