BitcoinQT wallet. Blockchain grows and hdd is getting smaller

That's the problem... You're trying to run a 64bit binary on a 32 bit os.

So, you have 2 options:
1) install a 64 bit OS... you can check if your cpu is capable by executing:

Look at the CPU op-mode(s). If it shows "32-bit, 64-bit", you can grab a 64 bit version of ubuntu. If not, only option 2 is available to you

2) download a 32 bit binary version of bitcoin-qt

In that case, you're stuck with a 32 bit OS, so you'll have to remove the bitcoin binary's package you downloaded and download the correct ones instead...
I think this one should do the trick:
https://bitcoin.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.19.1/bitcoin-0.19.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz

0.20.x wasn't compiled for 32 bit architectures anymore i'm afraid... but 19.1 is fairly recent and should do the trick just fine.

well since the ppa:luke-jr/bitcoincore i have strange files in my home folder.

ill start over

install ubuntu-mate-18.04.5-desktop-i366.iso
copy bitcoin-0.19.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz to /home/MYUSERNAME/downloads
cd /home/silver2tb/Downloads/
tar xvfz bitcoin-0.19.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
sudo install -o root -g root -t /usr/local/bin bitcoin-0.19.1/bin/*
and i should be good to go.

im for at least 5 hours away now.

tar xvfz bitcoin-0.19.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
sudo install -o root -g root -t /usr/local/bin bitcoin-0.19.1/bin/*
and i should be good to go.

now when i do /usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt the welcome to bitcoin core window shows up
i did cancel it and did not select a drive (standard or my choice).


now i copy .bitcoin and bitcoin folder from old 500GB to ( this take 4 hours for 369GB at about 20MB/sec)
/home/myusername/
then i do
/usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt and select the .bitcoin folder as data folder
then /usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt and hopefully all is good now. we will see.

Yes, theoretically, that should all work out...

Once you have all the .bitcoin folder copied over... when you start bitcoin-qt and select .bitcoin as the location for your datadir, it should find the blocks, start up and continue syncing without needing to redownload everything

After i copied the files and start bitcoin-qt (bitcoin-0.19.1).
Welcome screen was skipped, no need to select any folder.

Im 4 days behind and sync the blockchain now.

Now i have 1,5TB free disk space, a newer linux and a fairly recent bitcoin-qt client.
bitcoin-0.15.1 was on the 500GB.

Everything is OK. Sync is done. My funds still there.
I am glad everything turned out well.

This is what i did.

then i start the bitcoin-qt client with
