It would take some major event to position the euro over the dollar. At best we can see the two currencies equal out (the euro catching up to the dollar and with that, I mean In a stable non-fluctuating way). But international trade is still dependent on the dollar, and for now, I can only see the Chinese currency emerging as a victor.

The US going through tough times but USD is still by far more reliable than both the Euro and the Yuan. It is not even certain that who really owns the Euro. Most likely Germany it is but then it means every other country that uses the Euro as their national currency is owned by Germany as well and that won't and cannot go like this. Otherwise Germany will forever have to fix Greece's problems.

People do business with the Dollar because they see the US as the guarantor of this current financial system. In other words, people trust the US more than they trust any other country.

If you think people would trust China... well you are mistaken. Even China trusts the US more than they trust themselves. Whoever manages to gather a few hundred $k's just leave China and never look back.

I am not denying it. Germany is both the problem and the fix for Greece now.

Greece simply don't know how to survive without Germany anymore. They should leave EU and take whatever they lost back but that will destroy Greece in the process. (the UK survived because they are a lot bigger than Greece) They simply can't take this risk because the Greeks are conformists.

Instead of doing the thinking themselves, they let Germany do the thinking for them. Once they decouple, it will be fireworks everywhere.

I fully agree with you, Switzerland has been the save haven for generations and will likely remain so in the near future. There are many banks located in Zurich, Switzerland that have clients all around the world. Also the CHF is looking strong as always. Most people view it as another alternative to Gold to store value.
