That must have been really sad for them, knowing that they purposefully did that for the views and saying it's an abstract. I don't even understand what that means. It's like any other asset that the price is determined by the demand on how much someone is willing to pay for it. That's how it works.

Maybe if they are really HODLers but just doing it for LOLs.

They called bitcoin as,

Quote
The world’s most popular digital currency really is nothing more than an abstraction. So we’re destroying the private key used by our Bitcon wallet.

https://web.archive.org/web/20170223144508/https://www.wired.com/2013/05/butterfly_live/

Damn, it's now worth almost $550 million at the current price:

Bitcoin address:
Code:
1BYsmmrrfTQ1qm7KcrSLxnX7SaKQREPYFP

They have deleted the articles already, but its good that it has been archived.

Just include this to the millions of bitcoins that has been lost already, making the supply really that scarce. And we can only speculate what's going on their mind seeing the latest bull run. Smiley

Bravo!!!

Well, abstraction? Lol, look now, we are closing to adoption that we ever seen.

I'm pretty sure that the 2017 bull run was the beginning of the regrets, and then seeing the price today, which now doubles the last all time high? "shooting themselves in the foot". Another lesson not to estimate not just bitcoin, but those technologies, similar to what Internet went through in the beginning.

Was only worth 550 thousand at that time.

It's still there. 13.34690781 BTC https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/addresses/btc/1BYsmmrrfTQ1qm7KcrSLxnX7SaKQREPYFP

Now worth about 1.4 million.

Such a waste to just delete the key. They should have donated the bitcoin like they suggested to keep it in circulation.

If they really did 'destroy' it, I wonder how much of an idiot they think of themselves right now.

Don't rub it in mate,  Smiley

LOL. Seriously don't.  Grin

Why not? Let's punish them for their willful arrogance, ignorance and if anything for mocking Bitcoin in exchange for a clickbait article Tongue Roll Eyes
Although honestly, I think they have been punished enough by themselves.

I do not doubt they erased and lost the seed. They would have moved or sold the coins by now. Or at the very least, they would have probably reversed their position on Bitcoin and apologized to Mr/Ms. Satoshi. Grin
