Hello!

I'm Matt, and I have at minimum $2K BTC I need help recovering. I set up my Electrum wallet back in 2017, and did 2FA with google authenticator. That was a bad move. Authenticator crashed on my phone and it was all screwed.

I just recently tried to get into my wallet since Bitcoin has gone to the next level of insane.

I have original seeds, passwords, but every time I try to restore wallet, it never shows a balance. Please help. I'll pay you a 10% finders fee of whatever I have in the wallet. At minimum its $2000 in the wallet, so $200. BUT it might be $4000 in the wallet and you'd get $400 in that case.

I have tried to restore correctly and that does not work. I have been through all the guides on how to properly restore. The wallets and seeds work, but there is never transaction history or a balance.

What I have:

-Seeds (2)
-Passwords (2)
-Transaction history from coinbase

Thanks,

Matt

Why do you have 2 seeds?

When you go to recover your wallet and put in the seed in electrum what does it say?

Do you have your original 2fa wallet with a balance on it? If so you might be able to just send an email to trusted coin with the email address you used to sign up for the 2fa.

I have two seeds because I was sending BTC between them for some reason lol. The wallets are popping up when I put the seeds in, but there is no transaction history or balance. I do not have the original 2fa wallet, but I do have what appear to be the seeds. Unsure on email used with Electrum or if I just downloaded it directly to desktop

You have to use an email to set up 2fa.

I mean if you go to recover your wallet (file>new) and put in your mnemonic then what seed type comes up before hitting next on the input screen. How certain are you the wallet you're trying to recover is 2fa and not a 2of2 multisig with each seed consigning. You might want to irradicate that as an option which can be done if you work out the seed type to determine if it is 2fa.

I never used electrum wallet with 2FA feature on it but when I tried to login it says you can restore you wallet at any time with the seed at any time you want is mentioned there means your seeds are enough to recover them right?

Did you actually logged into the wallet but can't able to see the balance?

I don't know how good you are with iancoleman, also do you know the actual address that holds the BTC? If yes it will be easier use iancoleman to get your list btc back but if you don't know how don't bother using it cos it's more complicated

I have tried to restore correctly and that does not work. I have been through all the guides on how to properly restore. The wallets and seeds work, but there is never transaction history or a balance.

If you have the correct seed/s then you are doing something wrong - even if you have lost access to 2FA you can do a wallet recovery. To begin with, tell us which version of Electrum you are using, because everything below version 3.3.4 is insecure, and you will not be able to connect to any legitimate server, and in that case Electrum will not be able to show you the balance. I assume you used the Legacy wallet back in 2017 (address start with 1), so pay attention to that when recovering.

https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/2fa.html#restoring-from-seed

It is also possible that Electrum for some reason does not have internet access, what color is the circle (bottom right), green or red?

I tend to agree and I suspected that this could be the reason why the balance didn't appear on his wallet.  It's not fully synced to the node and it should be color green, not the red one.

AFAIK, during the restoration process using the seed phrase if you are using the right one, there will be an option there, "disable 2FA or provision a new 2nd-factor device".  Choose disable and proceed to recover.

If all suggested above will not work, don't waste your money here or probably there's someone send you a PM and asking recovery details, you are prone to be scam now.  A long time ago my friend suggested this recovery wallet service, https://www.walletrecoveryservices.com/wallets/, they might help you to solve this out.

I don't think the transaction history is worth anything atm other than keep check on the history of the account.

My suggestion would be for you to try to follow some guides regarding seed recovery. A very basic one can be found here - https://bitcoinelectrum.com/restoring-your-standard-wallet-from-seed/

You can also be asked for a password for the seed so for each seed you will have to try both passwords that you have (and vice versa).

Depending on the age of your wallet what also might be happening is that your wallet doesn't support native segwit. You can try to follow this guide from youtube to see if it helps - https://youtu.be/ffiJUhwo-DU (Source : Reddit).

If that also doesn't work have a look at this thread over reddit from a user that also had similar problems - https://www.reddit.com/r/Electrum/comments/fdrr2a/restored_my_electrum_wallet_using_seed_phrase/

He updated the thread with a solution that worked for him so perhaps give that a chance?

I would also suggest you ignore PM's that you may receive after your thread. They will likely try to "rob" you of your keys ...

Are you sure you choose "Wallet with two-factor authentication" rather than "Standard wallet" when you attempt to restore access to your wallet/bitcoin?
This makes no difference. Even if you select "Standard wallet", Electrum will still recognize the seed phrase as 2FA and will continue with the restore process as such, and still offer you the chance to keep or disable the 2FA authentication.

Depending on the age of your wallet what also might be happening is that your wallet doesn't support native segwit.
As he is restoring an Electrum seed phrase with Electrum, then this is not a concern.

OP, when you are restoring from the seed phrase(s) and you get to the page on Electrum in which you type in the seed phrase, after you have typed it in some text will pop up saying "Seed Type: xxx", with xxx saying 2FA, Segwit, Legacy, or something similar. What does it say for both your seed phrases?

When you restore the two seed phrases, what letter do the addresses in both of them start with? Do you recognize the addresses? If you put the first few addresses in to a block explorer such as blockchair.com, do you see any transactions or balance?
