Repeated Low Quality Posts by User B1tUnl0ck3r - Ban Consideration

Apologies if this is the wrong place to raise discussion about filing a grievance with staff on disruptive users.

The user "B1tUnl0ck3r" appears to be shitting up the WO thread with some pretty off-topic and rather insane banter. Not sure what value they add to these forums.

Is there a way of dealing with low-quality trolls that are clearly unhinged, and foul this place up, beyond simply ignoring them ?

Asking only in the interest of cleaning this place up a bit.

The WO thread is not moderated the same as the rest of the forum, so he will probably not be banned for posts in WO.

I have noticed he has posted some garbage in the P&S sub, and have recently reported some of his threads.

You can have whoever is in charge of the WO thread to remove his posts, via automation.

Reporting such posts is the best option in my opinion, as moderators still has ambit within self mod topics and can act in cases of malware or spam, which directly breaks the forum rules and in this case also breaks the WO local rules.

Afaik, self mod option only allows users create local rules, but they can not override forum rules. So if a reply breaks such rules, you can report to mods and they would act on it. Allowing a single user moderate such a large thread is not quite efficient and if a reply breaks forum rules, mods would directly act on reports.

He's also opened quite a few threads in the Politics section.
It's seemed to me that he was drunk or something.
I suppose if he is reported a lot he will get at least a warning.

But yeah, reporting is the next best option. But goooood luck since WO is a hUGE thread, its gonna be annoying to find context for the mods in certain scenarios. Do-able, but annoying.

Unfortunately, what he posts isn't considered as spam posts :/ His posts are comparatively better than the posts made by idiots in altcoin discussion. So yeah standards have reduced for deleting spam messaging, and also there is free speech on the forum so there is not much you as an individual can even do. Another option would be to press the ignore button on the user.

Self-moderated thread owners can remove any post at their discretion.

Local rules are a separate topic: you usually designate them at the thread head to add moderator support instead of self-moderation, or when you are unable to make the thread self-moderated (e.g. Meta).You can try to conflate them with a troll status but good luck getting someone banned for trolling. When's the last time that happened?

A ban is certainly heavy and it takes a lot of trolling and spam posting to get the hammer, usually the post simply gets deleted which works fairly well at discouraging spammers, especially those who aren't financially motivated.

I just looked at B1tUnl0ck3r's post history, and yeah....a lot of his posts are just plain bizarre, to say the least.  Admittedly I'm just reading his posts out of whatever discussion context they were in, but some of them seem like they wouldn't make sense in any context whatsoever.

The guy's been around since 2016 so I don't think he's trying to pinch merits from the WO thread like some member do.  I've no explanation for the weirdness he's writing, but even though WO is a thread unto itself, there should be a "local" moderator who takes care of spam in that thread.  I know they don't want moderator interference (I remember some people getting very upset when a mod had deleted some posts in the WO thread a while back), but someone ought to have the power to nuke nonsensical/spam posts.  The ignore button only goes so far, you know.

I recognize the WO thread is practically a community unto itself on these forums, with infofront doing a great job moderating the thread.

The specific issue I have here, while directly pertaining to the WO thread, is a more general concern for what the user brings to the forums.

Fully recognizing and appreciating the free speech liberties we largely have on this site, I just wanted to shine the spotlight on a particularly bad apple I have noticed. I do not come across genuinely bad apples here very often, hence this thread and inquiry.

Excessive repetition of any of those, then one could build a case if accompanied by corroborating evidence for a warning to be given.
That would really need to be a strong case that stood up to scrutiny not just because you didnt like the posts. They really need to clearly be off topic and irrelevant , promulgating provably....

Other than that hit the ignore button. Would be a boring and far less valuable forum if we all had to adopt the most popular views or all be merit cycling buddies on WO.  Worthless posts are usually the repetitive popularist regurgitated resource sapping sig spamming dangerously misleading posts DT pump out to be honest.
