Hello.

I have old wallets on my hard disk, dating back in 2017. I am sure they are empty but I would like to have a look there, make sure.

The problem is I just have the files. I don't even remember what software I used for that.

How do I check?

thanks

If the files have a .dat file extension at the end, they are probably Bitcoin Core wallets. Just move each file into its own folder under the bitcoin/wallets folder and then run Core with -rescan. Electrum wallets don't have a file extension and you can just open them from the File menu after the program has launched and some wallet is open. You don't even have to move the files anywhere to open them in Electrum.
