Can Avalanche surpass Ethereum?

Avalanche made massive gains last week and is continuing to take a leading position of projects to improve Ethereum like it is today. Avalanche has proven to be a groundbreaking platform and is constantly announcing new partnerships and projects based on Avalanche.

But is it really possible for Avalanche to surpass Ehereum? Ethereum is big, famous and leading, everyone knows and uses it.


I have made a list of arguments for and against Avalanche surpassing Ethereum:


Reasons why Avalanche will surpass Ethereum:

• Better tech because Avalanche is using Avalanche consensus: better scaling, better decentralization, 4.5k transactions per second and fast transaction confirmation
• It is very expensive to use Ethereum for small transactions currently
• Avalanche is a capped asset (720,000,000 AVAX cap) – Ethereum has infinite supply
• Ethereum 2.0 will take much more time to develop. Plenty time for Avalanche to prove to be better
• Avalanche network is saving energy (green)

Reasons why Avalanche will not surpass Ethereum:

• Ethereum is big, famous and leading, everyone knows and uses it
• Developers won’t abandon Ethereum
• Huge funding for Ethereum

Avalanche may have better tech, but overall, Ethereum is a well polished cryptocurrency, the downside for ETH is that it is indeed expensive when making transactions, honestly, it's my first time hearing Avalanche, I did a background check on Avalanche and it looks really promising, but as of now, I really don't think it can surpass ETH not only with its value but also its popularity.

Although you are right with those features, Avalance is just some ordinary Altcoins that need to undergo a long process to gain popularity and Ethereum has already done that long ago. As you can see there are lots of networks in the altcoin section that prove the convenience and ease to use when you trade them. for example Ripples and Tron, as you can see right now, didn't even get some huge price after that because what they are lacking is the main core of to become top is the popularity itself and the liquidity.

AVAX is a bit superior compared with ethereum in term of technical features that already offered but it doesn't seem avax can replace ethereum. It's not only avax but this has been happening since a few years ago since the smartcontract platform created by the waves platform being introduced to be the competitor for ethereum.
people are knowing ethereum is the best smartcontract platform even there are still some problems like scalability and uncapped supply.
People feel more convenience to use ethereum compared with another smartcontract platform.

Although you are right with those features, Avalance is just some ordinary Altcoins that need to undergo a long process to gain popularity and Ethereum has already done that long ago. As you can see there are lots of networks in the altcoin section that prove the convenience and ease to use when you trade them.

In terms of tech, could say Avalanche only needs massive adoption. Based on OP's details it's pretty well seen the improvement of Avalanche, I've tried it myself and use and personally it is fast than ethereum when making transactions. But its too early to say they can manage to break eth popularity. There are also other network or chain that could rival eth, but this Avalanche is definitely one of it same as polkadot.

Price appreciation and valuation, its too early for avax, can also increase more in the future.

The chance gonna be slim, I mean the market cap is not even close and it's hard to disrupt the already existing ecosystem within ethereum blockchain not to mention that Ethereum is basically the first way-to-go for many projects because all the things needed just there. If avalanche team really trying to overtake Ethereum they gonna need more things coming to their blockchain or else not gonna happen.

Avalanche does great things. It is one of the most developing projects. I listened to CEO Emin Gün Sirer's speech in the previous days. Everything is fine for them now, but they are not rivals to Ethereum. They are completely on Ethereum's side and want to help. I think in the future both Ethereum and Avalanche will be succesfull very well.

You can compare the time of existence between Avax and eth, this is a project thats is still new compare to ethereum which have been around for some years now, so far within the period of existence avax have done some great work and will continue to do so, avax is 2020 project but already achieve a lot, i think if this project exist as long as eth, there is a possibility it could surpass eth especially in the tech aspect.

Avalanche has a great community and that is what they are trying to build, they have improved their system a lot but more importantly they have gathered so many people who would be interested in the project.

The difference is that many new projects get the attention of people who would like to get rich quick, they just give tokens in exchange of ethereum and they just take all that ethereum and run away and customers get the token and try to sell it and make a profit, that is how almost all the new projects has been. This wasn't like that, they locked so much money away and explained themselves and people listened, now there are soo many people who are interested in the project.

With all of that being said, I still think it is impossible for avax to pass ethereum, it is a cool coin and all, maybe even top 10 one day, but it will never beat ethereum, no way.

When we try to make transactions right now on Ethereum, it is very expensive and cost much of ETH. Normal Ethereum transfers are already expensive but DeFi transactions like Uniswap are wasting our Ethereum for fees. And if we want real MASS adoption, we need to process much more transaction. Ethereum network is currently very limited to make more transaction, because transaction will get more expensive. It is even right now already to expensive.

It will happen soon and Polkadot compared to Avalanche, it's an easy competitor. Because Polkadot is very inflational, not like Bitcoin or Avalanche. Bitcoin and Avalanche have capped supply (Bitcoin 21 Million, Avalanche 720 Million), Polkadot is not capped. It will cause a big loss, when Polkadot gets inflated over time.

This coin is not even entered in the top coins.

It will happen soon, did you follow Avalanche progress? Avalanche will launch a Pangolin, it's Uniswap but based on Avalanche platform. Almost no fees and almost instant confirmation times. It will make real DeFi possible. And it's much more to come.

Because he CAN. He knows what Avalanche is capable of and soon, it will be shown to public participants.

It is if Ethereum misses to offer Ethereum 2.0 soon and many new projects want to launch, it can simply happen no one can use Ethereum anymore because fees are crazy high. Should it happen, new projects will join competitor projects where fees are low and when it happens quickly, it may overtake Ethereum before Ethereum 2.0 ist ready.

But it is only likely when Ethereum 2.0 will fail or take many years for development.

It can happen when Ethereum 2.0 is really nice to use like fast and low fees.
But here again, Bitcoin will be much more valuable because Bitcoin is store of value: Bitcoin has a limit of 21 Million coins, it is capped supply.
Ethereum has not limit, it is infinite supply.
As a result it could be possible for Avalanche to overtake Ethereum because Avalanche has also a limit of 720 Million coins, like Bitcoin has also a limit. And we all know how much value a BTC is.
Finally, Avalanche also has Ethereum use cases (ICO, DeFi...) and Bitcoin use cases (store of value). It could be huge.

and one more friend, the only reason that might make etherum lose to the avalanche is the fee and transaction speed. if avalanche can excel in transactions and fees can be cheaper, it is not impossible that etherum will lose. but for now etherum is still number 1.

Yes, when Ethereum can't get ready for ETH 2.0 in time, existing projects will be looking for better networks and Avalanche is leading here. Because Ethereum 2.0 was planned long ago but it will take so much time to be working. If it takes too long, new projects won't chose Ethereum to build on.

I think that avalance cant be able to surpasses ethereum especially that it have already establish its reputation to the crypto community. Also, its developer is really working to make ethereum time to time develope and enhance to satisfy users and investors as well.

One thing is that newly created projects are trying to replace Ethereum's position in this market is impossible, ETH is too strong to have any project created that could affect it. Let's look back to the past and see that NEO EOS TRX DOT BNB is both considered competitor and replaceable to ETH, but we need to appreciate its value in the current market. I firmly believe that the demand for ETH in the future will increase more and more and that helps it maintain its position in this market.

To tell you the truth i never heard of Avalanche. It is difficult for any project to replace the Ethereum in the near future. At the present time only Polkadot seems to be an interesting project but it will also not replace ethereum even though it is much better than eth.

Unfortunately, I never heard this phrase until I had to search for it on google.  Honestly, the first time I was quite surprised with TOP 40 on coinmarketcap.  Definitely the potential, but to compare and beat ETH it is a very long road, so far, only XRP has surpassed ETH twice before it plummeted.  with Avalanche, that would be very far away.
